Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Bella Suite in the private tower w/ free wifi and ate check-out at 2pm  from  Suite

How It Happened: 5 pm on fri. night. Went up and made some small talk and was friendly. Sandwiched the tip b/w the CC & DL, ans handed it over, she quickly put it under the desk and smiled and I asked if there were any complimentary room upgrades available. She said she’d see what she could do. Next thing I know, we’re looking at a HUGE bella suite in the private tower. Very awesome. Thanks so much for this thread guys.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Priceline Standard room W/ View on higher floor  from  Priceline Standard room

Kinda worked, but we were there for 3 days and they didnt have any suites available the whole time we were there. (we checked online) So it was the best they could do. Great room still.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Rialto with view of pools and strip  from  Rialto

Labor Day Sunday… I have always gotten good service in Las Vegas (any decent hotels). And $20 tip for front desk clerk always make a difference… and this time was no different.

I checked in around 9:15am. My plan, like always, was to just chitchat a bit after the tip and eventually ask for upgrades/other things. I handed the sandwich and said “the twenty behind is for you”, and she replied with big smile “thank you mr. ____”.

I already had Rialto suite booked, so I wasn’t sure if there would be any available upgrades, but she bumped us to the one with a view (of pools and strip) and got me bunch of freebies. All this without me even asking for them.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  venetian rialto  from  venetian bella

Knowing that the main check in area is sometimes crowded, I went to the Venezia check in desk. I walked right up to the clerk. I handed her my driver’s license, credit card and a $20. I asked if she had an complimentary upgrade to a Rialto Suite available. She checked and gave me the room, on the 33rd floor with view of the Strip.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to    from  Bella

A clerk named Christina. Did the $20 sandwich and asked for complimentary upgrade. She put the $20 note aside and told me that she would return me the $20 but the upgrade I asked for (just a two beds suite) would cost me 40 bucks. Considering I need it, I took the upgrade for the costs she quoted. Found that the room is a parking lot low floor room. will never try that again.

Tipped:  $0 Upgraded to  Venetian Piazza  from  Venetian Luxury

Did not even bother trying the tip with the first front desk clerk, as she was obviously in a sour mood from the point she said hello. This was at the Venezia desk and not normal check in. So we called at about Midnight with compliants about our room (view of parking garage, uncleanly, tv’s did not work, one would not even shut off). Clerk offered us a piazza suite (1400 sq ft) for the 6 nights we stayed, and we only paid $100 a night each night. It was amazing.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Luxury View Suite on 32nd floor facing strip/pool  from  Luxury Suite

I did the basic $20 bill sandwich between the CC and the DL. I asked if there were any upgrades available or at least something with a nice view. He replied that there was an upgrade to the 32nd floor that would normally be $45 per night, but he’d take care of that and pocketed the tip.

Got to our room and had a view of the pool and Palazzo and what remains of the strip (behind that nasty condo construction).

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Venetian Luxury Suite - 33rd Floor with Strip View  from  Venetian Luxury Suite

$20 tip worked, but there’s a cavaet.

Checked in around noon, huge line at the main desk, so we were directed to the Venezia Check-in desk upstairs. Presented ID/credit card/$20 sandwich to Lindsey at Front Desk and asked if there are any complimentary upgrades. She said “Certainly” and pocketed the money right away. Got us a room on a top floor in the main tower with a great Strip view. However, when we got to the room it stank of cigar and marijuana smoke, so went back to the main check-in desk to switch rooms. Dealt with a front desk clerk named Ronald who sort of gave us a hard time for being unsatisfied with the room. When he viewed our reservation in the system to switch our room, he turned to his supervisor and said “A strip view room for that rate??” Supervisor replied “No”, so we thought the jig was up and just lost our $20 upgrade. Turns out the new room had an even better view. We got lucky because it didn’t seem like Ronald or the Supervisor were initially inclined to go along with the upgrade.

Here’s the cavaet: if you’re going to try the $20 sandwich and it turns out the room has problem, try to deal with the original person you bribed, otherwise your $20 might go to waste.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Bella suite with Strip View  from  Priceline Luxury Room

Did the $20 sandwich and asked if any complementary upgrades were available. Once she saw the $20 her face lighted up and said “I’ll see what I can do.” Upgraded to 23rd floor with a view. Next time, I’ll ask for some food credits in addition. What can I lose? I’ll be doing this every time. My room on I stayed on a Fri and Sat night, got my room on Priceline for $160.
