I spoke to a clerk at one of the side counters and immediately handed over my ID, CC and a $ 20. he offered me a suite at hte palazzio room on the 43rd floor with 2 queensize beds which apparently was $ 70 more per night than the one i had booked. i took it as we needed 2 queen size beds but then on 2nd thoughts were not sure of it was an upgrade or not since we were moved from the Venetian to Pallazio. But yes the trick definately worked.

Jackpot! Howard Got A Venetian Room Upgrade

I did not pick clerk as there was long queue but got nice young girl. handed over our passports without thinking so just held the $20 with my credit card making sure she could see it and asked if there were any complimentary upgrades. She said she would put us on the top floor (of the luxury suits floor 30) and when I gave her the $20 with my card she asked me if I meant to give that to her. I said yes and she took it. She also offered to give me free internet after I asked how much it was but I couldn't find her again at end of stay. We were very happy with room and hotel.

Jackpot! Mark Got A Venetian Room Upgrade

We had a $29.99 rate on our players club card and were assigned to the Veneiza tower. We had friends staying in the Venetian tower and wanted to be closer to them.

I asked the guy it we would be able to switch towers. He then asked for a cc and driver's license. I had the sandwich made with the $20 sticking out ever so slightly. I said,"I think you will find everything you need here. He took the money and slid it under his keyboard. We were checking in 3 hours early and he said I don't see any problem. We ended up in the tower we wanted. He also got us a refrigerator for free and a late checkout.

Some other friends arrived the next day and did get moved from one tower to the other like us for free. He did not request a refrigerator or a late checkout. He was also checking in around 5:00. He wanted to see if he could get it for free. He did tip the guy $20 afterwards.

We were both very happy. I can't wait to try it again in November.

Jackpot! LVTraveller Got A Venetian Room Upgrade

Had reserved the basic room, low floors, no view. Upon checkin, handed over DL, CC, and 20, and asked if there might be any upgrades available. Clerk set aside the 20, typed away, and found high up room, floor 29, with nice view (per website, these rooms were 50 more per night). Only problem was, that next morning, could hear heavy construction noise from room renovations nearby. Called front desk, and they moved us to an even nicer room. Newly renovated, two 42" plasma tvs, electronic window treatments, etc. Very nice.

Jackpot! Cara Got A Venetian Room Upgrade

Backstory: after much cancellation and confusion, booked a room at the Venetian for Sat 6/13/09 at $289. Wanted the Palazzo but it would've been $349. Checked in around 1 pm on Sat and was directed to a clerk by an attendant. I was nervous and had my cc/$20/dl sandwich all ready while asking for a "complimentary upgrade". The guy was super nice and said that he'd be happy to help. He pocketed the money but I could see him glance casually behind his shoulder to make sure the manager traversing the floor wasn't behind him. We chatted and he typed away. In the end, I was upgraded to a Bella suite, 2 queen beds on the 43rd floor in the newer Palazzo overlooking the strip!

I know I got a good deal because a friend had booked a room at the Palazzo, same night and gotten the 16th floor.

Jackpot! Ann Got A Venetian Room Upgrade

Approached the female clerk who was looking at the computer most of the time, when I asked if there was any chance of a complimentary upgrade she said that she didn't think so because my room was prepaid, then she looked down and saw the money sandwiched between my credit card and drivers license, she then said "I will just check if there is anything available, yes, I have a room on the 33rd floor will that be OK" Of course I said yes. She was even going to give me my $20.00 back, and smiled when I told her it was for her. I Got a room with a panoramic view of the strip, the airport, and the surrounding mountains, "Beautiful". I could even watch the Bellagio fountains without leaving the hotel room. I will definitely stay at this hotel next time I go to Vegas.

No Dice For Insider at Venetian...

Here is the deal. I know how the upgrades work. The upgrades are as follows. For two queens - $35 per night, for a view $45 per night, for a rialto usually $100, $150 for view per night but it can be negotiated if they have a large amount of them in the system. The hospitality suites are usually $100 per night, they are all located on the 3rd flr so no view but these are identical to prima suites which I will get into later. They have also been newly renovated and are gorgeous. If you don't care about the view or the fact that it is on a smoking flr then it is so worth it. The piazza are usually $250 per night, note that these suites have not been renovated even though they are large. These can be negotiated as well sometimes to about $150 or even as low as $100 per night. The prima are the next step up, you won't see them on the website because they are generally reserved for casino guests. They usually go for $350 same size as piazza but much different setting. The prima can be negotiated but not much. The next step are the Renaissance suites, these suites are massive but are very poorly decorated. There are two kinds, one with a workout room and one with a media center. I would choose the media center Renaissance, the workout one has a stationary bike and a treadmill, not worth it. The cost to upgrade is $500 per night and are generally very hard to negotiate. The next step up from that is the penthouse. These are massive and are 2 bdrms and are very very nice. They go for $1000 per night and very rarely get negotiated.

Now for the good stuff. The front desk staff work for commission. They make anywhere from 5-10 percent commission for each day they sold the upgrade. For example, if you buy a view for two nights it will be a $90 dollar upgrade, so the agent will get approx $9 dollars for the upgrade if they get the top tier upgrade percentage. This is why front desk agents take the $20 bribe because it is worth it to them. They are helping you and you are definitely helping them. It is a win/win for you and the employee. Now for those people that check in really late on Friday, good luck trying that bribe. Trust me they would if they could.

No Dice For Mike L. at Venetian...

I got an offer for 3 free nights in a Bella Suite at the Venetian and the exclusive "invited guest" check -in. I went up with the $20.00 bill and offered it with my DL and CC, the lady gave me the money back and said they don't do upgrades on rooms the casino gives out! Oh well, it was still an awesome suite...even though the view was a little limited.

Checked in on Saturday around 9 pm. The check in line was not that bad; stood there for about 10-15 minutes. Slid the front desk clerk $20 along with credit card and driver's license. Asked if there were any comp. upgrades, he promptly said, "Of course, let me see what I can do". Made small talk while he was typing. Upgraded my husband and I to the Venenzia Tower suite on the 12th floor (There are only 14 Floors)overlooking the private pool and garden that is only for those staying at this Tower.

No Dice For Justin A at Venetian...

I checked in a second time after moving to the Bellagio for a few days, this time on a monday morning,i was quite certain i would get upgraded to something, the girl said they are not allowed to do upgrades anymore as they got in trouble, she did offer me a rialto suite for an extra 50.00 per night, with no view, i declined as it is not that much bigger, in fact there appears there is no rooms in the Venetian with a strip view other than part of the Mirage and Trump
hard to believe. you have to be way up on the top floor and only a few of the units would actually get you a partial strip facing towards the south strip, how can a hotel on the strip have no strip views!!!
a word to the wise, do not bother with the 20.00 tip unless you are content moving to higher floors as your upgrade, that is the best that you will get for a tip, i tried 2 times in 7 days, both times declined and i have actually tried at the Venetian two other times in 2008 with the same results, try anywhere else, the 20.00 tip can work, just not at the Venetian!

Jackpot! David Got A Venetian Room Upgrade

Greeted the clerk with a friendly smile and small talk. Slipped the 20 between the CC and DL and asked for a upgrade. She said she could not accept it but would try anyway. (I think her manager was behind her) Typed a bit...disappeared in the back and came back and offered a 44th floor strip view bella suite at the Palazzo. Best rooms on the strip. (excluding big time suites of course) I offered her the $20 again after her "performance" and she refused again. (still think she was being watched) I went back the next day and found her working...I skipped the line, interuppted her, and in 3 seconds... put a 20 on the counter and said "thanks for yesterday" and walked away before she could refuse again.

No Dice For Justin A at Venetian...

Checked in quite late on a saturday night(about 10 pm), was worried about it not working because i generally check in on sundays or mondays when hotels are not as booked.Slipped the girl a 20.00 bill, she said there was nothing available at all a step up, not even anything with a room, booked solid.
She said i could come back down the next day and ask, which i did do again, they also said nothing available, i did not give her the 20, i took it back as it was still on the counter underneath my id.

I am not completely sure that we got anything we wouldn't have gotten just by asking. I think we'd have done better to ask for a specific room rather than just a "complimentary upgrade".

Jackpot! Ryan Got A Venetian Room Upgrade

Being a first time visitor to Vegas I was a little hesitant to try the $20 sandwhich. With a little push from another couple, I tried the $20 sandwhich with a female clerk. She quickly and with no hesitation upgraded my room so we could easily see the Vegas strip and she allowed us to check in five hours early. We had a great time at the Venetian. Its very, very high end. Good luck

Jackpot! Tom Got A Venetian Room Upgrade

We checked in on the day after Christmas. There was a bit of wait at check-in (about 5 people ahead of us). The girl was very friendly. We started to chit-chat for a bit and then I handed her the sandwich and asked if she had any upgrades available. She told me she had the same suite with a view of the strip, which is an additional $40-$50/night. Better than nothing. I can't wait to go back and see what else I will get.
