I checked in around 1:30pm on a Saturday for a 3 night stay. The lines were already incredibly long. Used the $20 credit card/license sandwich, and he very discreetly slipped it into his pocket and started typing. I got a room in the corner on the 33rd floor which requires key access to go up. It’s got a great view of the Wynn and Palazzo across the street. The room has 2 tall windows instead of one, and it’s slightly larger than the standard room because it’s in the corner. My friend also used the sandwich at another clerk and was also successful. He also got the same corner room, just several floors below me.
Got into town early, at hotel by 11 am. Went to desk & asked for early check in w/ any complimentary upgrade. Had $20 between license & charge card. Clerk was very friendly, laid $20 on counter, took license & card, checked me in, added my later arriving sister, gave me some discount coupons, said she was giving us a room on the “35th floor.” She handed back license & charge card w/ $20 still on counter so I walked away; saw her slide the $20 off counter. I don’t know if it was actually an “upgrade” or not. I DO know that it was great to get in the room early and that the view was absolutely fantastic!!! Never closed drapes as view was wonderful day or night. Can’t say I wouldn’t have gotten the same thing w/o “tip” but I had fun trying it & considered it my “first bet” of the day.
first time trying this and my hubby made fun of me for it. desk clerk was super nice and gave us a regular room high floor with two windows and a great view. the room is normally a 50 buck a night increase. warning it is a long way from tha elevators. not good if u can’t walk that far. but great for peace and quiet.
Booked a Petite Suite and got upgraded to Penthouse suite on the top of TI (37th Floor) Champaine, Jacuzzi Tub and the view was so sick. We could see from the Venitian all the way up the strip. It was awesome!!! I was not there at check in so I told my wife to fold the $20 and sandwich in between her ID and Credit card so the $20 was sticking out a little. The clerk was more than happy to hook her up. Whohoooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!
Gave the girl a $20 and she set me up in a sweet room overlooking the Wynn and the Venetian. Great room and great place.
Checked in on Sunday. Saw that the girl looked miserable at teh counter so when i got up to the desk to check in I struck up a light hearted conversation..made her smile a bit and asked if it was possible to get a nice room. She said it was a pretty booked up weekend (being Labor day weekend and all)and that the reservation called for a standard room, but that she would get me the best room she could…she got us up on the 23rd floor with a strip view overlooking the Sirens show. Very nice place.
Gave the 20 bucks and got a 19th floor room with a view of hot chicks at the pool and a bottle of bubbly.
After reading the reviews on this site about the trick at Treasure Island, it seemed people were getting mostly strip view w/20 tip. I felt that my chances were just as good of getting the same upgrade for free. I was nice to the clerk and asked if they had any complimentary upgrades available, possibly the strip view ones. She said “yea we sometimes do…I’ll just give it to you right now.” So my advice is to just be nice and ask. Maybe adding that there is a birthday celebration wouldn’t hurt. My other advice is to search on google for discount codes. smartervegas I got the colors promo for 76$ a week night + 25$ free gaming credit+15$ dining credit +35% off Mystere. I highly recommend seeing KA at MGM instead. It was sooo good! They have discounts for shows on the website 35% off as well. Every day they add new promotions.
So good luck and keep the 20$!
Very long lines at check-in made me wary of trying this trick. Coincidently enough, I ended up with Leland(I believe someone on this page had him also) As I was about to hand over the card/id/tip, I started small talk with him. Explained that it was my cousin’s wedding next weekend, and we were having a guy’s only weekend in vegas. He immediately offered a free bottle of champagne. Awesome right?..it doesn’t end there. He did some typing, and he also said he would upgrade us to the 36th floor (very top of the hotel)and give us a penthouse suite. My jaw dropped. I wanted to offer him the tip, but managers were crawling all over the place, and he didn’t seem like he would accept anyway. All in all, a little fib/small talk went a looooooooooong way.
The hotel checkin wasnt busy at all. I walked up to the front desk and informed her it was my birthday trip to vegas, and i was wondering if there was a way of making the trip more special, slipped the 20 underneath the license and credit card as instructed. Worked like a charm, she said “i think i might be able to help you out” and there we have it, 20 dollar a night better room, and free bottle of 50 dollar champaign all for 20 bucks, good start to a great vacation.
