i approached the desk with the $20 sandwiched between my id and credit card. he saw it, and immediately told us something along the lines of he can’t be bribed. so i had to put away the $20. i explained that we were a couple and would prefer a room with a king bed instead of the cheapest 2x double bed room we booked. he gave us a deluxe king with a view of the pool. and i gave him back the $20 which he begrudgingly accepted.

The clerk was a middle aged brunette Caucasian woman at express check-in. I am a young Caucasian male and I checked in on a Sunday around noon.
I did the $20 sandwich and politely asked her if she had any complementary room upgrades. She said we could pay $30 extra per night for an upgrade. I said no thank you and she gave me back my $20. There was a convention going on so perhaps that’s is why it didn’t work. #epicfail

Arrived around 7 pm, didn’t get to ‘choose’ a clerk as the desk was quite busy and there were quite a few people in line. When it was our turn, I handed the clerk my passport with $20 tucked inside (out of sight) and my credit card sticking out. She asked for the name the room was booked under, I replied and then politely asked if there were possibly any complimentary room upgrades available. She worked away at her computer a bit, and then said she could upgrade us from a deluxe double to a deluxe king, usually another $20/night for no charge. She did say the room wasn’t ready so we’d need to wait a bit for it to be cleaned, which was fine. She also gave us 8 comp drink tickets for one of the clubs at another property in the same hotel group. When she finally got to my passport and credit card, she saw the $20, asked if it was for her and then said we didn’t have to do that and gave it back!

I tried to do the $20 trick didn’t work. They only gave me options to upgrade for $40 for a love suite a night and all this expensive upgrades. I didn’t take it but they moved me to a remodeled room. No upgrade, she gave me back my $20 though.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Mini Suite  from  The cheapest

I booked a room for my husband and I on Cyber Monday and got a deal – $17.00 per night for a “deluxe” room. I have read horror stories about IP but the deal was too good to pass up. We checked in early at 1pm. There was no line up. Our clerk was young and very friendly. I put the $20 in my passport and headed up to him. After some friendly small chat I asked if there were any complimentary upgrades available. He seemed really surprised by my question and was like “Um…” and I looked down at my passport. He noticed the $20 and again looked surprised and started laughing and said in an upbeat tone “Well maybe!”…a couple minutes later we were fully checked in and he handed us our room keys. He said if we didn’t like the room we couldn’t complain! (said with a wink and a smile). He knew it was our wedding anniversary and put us on the 10th floor in one of the newer towers. Our room was actually a suite! And everything looked recently renovated. New carpet, couches, chairs, TWO 40 inch flat screen tvs and a new king sized bed. We could not have asked for more and were so grateful to be given this suite for the duration of our stay!!! All of the staff at IP were amazing. We have zero complaints and will be back soon!

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Mini Suite Luv Tub  from  Deluxe room

Was checking in for the weekend on a Thursday night. Got to IP around 10:15 or so and after a short wait in line got the oldest female clerk at the desk. Gave her the $20 sandwich, she was surprised, took the bill out and put under her calculator. She then said she was appreciative and would she what she could do. Since it was a weekend she couldn’t give me the full suite, but could give us the Mini Suite if that was ok. Since we were paying $137 already for the full weekend of 4 nights, the bump up for the mere $20 trip, So for $157 for the mini suite for the full weekend, was well worth it. great website and thanks.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Mini Suite Luv Tub  from  Deluxe

Wife and I arrived at IP around 10:15 or so on Thursday night. Line was maybe 6 people deep. 2 younger employees and then a woman in her mid 60’s maybe. Got to front of line hoping for one of the younger employees, but we got the older woman. Went up and handed her the $20 sandwich and asked if there were any upgrades available. She pulled out the $20 surprised but appreciative and put that on the side by her calculator. She pulled up on the computer to see what was available. Clerk told us we weren’t able to get the full suite due to the upcoming weekend but if we were ok with the Mini Suite Luv Tub she could do that. We of course said yes since our Deluxe room was comp’d pretty cheap at $137 for the 4 night weekend stay. She got us booked for the Mini Suite, was pleasant the whole time, answered a few other questions and tip worked great. Thanks for the idea, plan to alway use on my yearly Vegas trip.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to    from  Regular Deluxe

Tried to get a upgrade on an already discounted casino rate room at the IP. Tried the $20 trick after waiting in the check in line for literally 1.5 hours! (not kidding) .

Was told no, but I could pay $15 to upgrade my room to the Love Suite. I did anyways.

This hotel is crap. Second time I stayed here and I will not return.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  King Suite  from  Deluxe Room

This was my first time using the $20 sandwich trick. I didn’t target any specific clerk, just went random. Handed my folded $20 with my drivers license and credit card, and asked, “Do you have any free Rom upgrades?” Within two minutes the clerk upgraded us to the King Suite from a Deluxe room. Tip, ask, and you shall recieve!
