No Dice For Ryan at Stratosphere...

I showed up Friday around 7pm, to stay for memorial day weekend. I waited in line for about 10 mins, they had at least 5-6 clerks making the line go pretty quick for how big it was. I get to the desk and it was an older white lady who was very nice. I gave her a $20 sandwich and asked for an complimentary room upgrades. She said it was memorial day weekend, and they were fully booked. After she said this, she actually returned the $20 to me. She went through her computer for a little while, and was able to get us a room on a high floor (I think 21) and it had a decent view of downtown. She also gave us a coupon book, which I'm not sure if everyone gets. The hotel as bad as I thought it would be, I would definitely stay there again.

No Dice For Gruff at Stratosphere...

Reached counter in a surprisingly busy line at app. 10:30pm. Alot of space between the woman and other attendants, discreet $20 sandwich plus request for 'complimentary upgrade' was met with disaproval and the bogus "we're sold out" even while the parking garage and casino were empty and upgraded rooms could easily be booked online. Instead, I was given a room where the window was 1/2 covered in tar and blocked by an industrial sized air-conditioning unit. Of note, I have experienced success at this property before, males necessary. On those occasions I've left glowing reviews on several websites, and plenty more on the tables. Without an upgrade I immediately leave the property for downtown or the southern strip.

No Dice For Jason at Stratosphere...

Hoped for the cute, young, female clerk and got her. Put the 20 on the desk right in front of me, asked if there were any complimentary upgrades available and before I got the sentence out of my mouth she scrunched up her nose and said 'no, there sure isn't.' Then offered me a suite for an additional 50 a night. I asked if there was even a room on a high floor and she said no. I took the 20 off the desk, put it in my pocket and proceeded up to my basic room on the 9th floor. It was a nice room, but no upgrade. I'm guessing booking through Hotwire had something to do with the denial.

Awful experience with check in waited almost 4 hours for a room. We were put in the world tower and had a nice room but the clerk was a jerk offered to upgrade us to a mini suite with a whirl pool bath tub for an extra 40.00 a day. We declined.

No Dice For Tim at Stratosphere...

We arrived at about 10:45 PM to the Stratosphere and were greeted with a surprisingly long line. I noticed a guy in his mid-20s who appeared to have a pretty good attitude, so I tried him. I presented the "sandwich" and was greeted immediately with a "Thank you very much!" I asked if he had any comp upgrades available as we were looking for a bit more space for our party of 3. He checked through the computer for a good 5-7 minutes before apologizing profusely that he didn't have anything to upgrade us to that night. He returned my ID, CC, and $20. I thanked him for trying. Had there been space available, I think he would have upgraded us!

Jackpot! Danny Got A Stratosphere Room Upgrade

We read about this on the $20trick website. We turned up looking absolutely awful but took the chance anyway. We were staying 6 nights, having already managed to get a BOGOF deal on 2 rooms. We went to the next available clerk and as subtlely as we could slipped $20 into 2 of our passports and asked for a complimentary upgrade on the room, and that we would like our rooms to be adjacent. The clerk said he would see and then said we were in luck and said yes. The passports (minus $40) were returned and we had 2 rooms upgraded for 6 nights.

Did the usual drill to no avail. Nice clerk, and she seemed to "get it", but she said the hotel was totally full. (Apparently from all the idiot optimists getting married on 8-8-08.) I kept the $20 and completed the transaction for the room type I'd booked.

No line when checking in on a Sat. afternoon, which is unusual. The clerk was friendly and I returned her friendliness in kind, trying to build a rapport in one minute. When asked for ID, I folded the $20 bill between my credit card and ID, slipping the edge of the folded bill out a little bit. "Do you have any complimentary upgrades available?" She saw the money and had a big smile on face and laughed a little. "I can't take your money. The only upgrade available would be an additional $50."

No Dice For Andrew at Stratosphere...

Did the trick and the clerk looked at me real bored. After asking for the complimentary room upgrade I was told no, there was none. He then proceeded to try to sell me a better room at prices that didn't seem like a deal.

We took the lowest priced upgrade and got an extra chair and a tiny desk in our room.

Well it worked BUT NOT... Thought it worked until I got billed for the upgrade. So she took my money, lied to me, then charged me for upgrade.

But Beware at Stratosphere.
I did file a report with the manager. They did take it off the bill..

Jackpot! Intoxic8 Got A Stratosphere Room Upgrade

How it Happened: we had 2 rooms booked so i thought it only fair to up the tip amount as she was checking both of us in at the same time.went to the desk with my Mother who was totally bemused to what was going on with the $50 Done the usual between id and CC, then started chatting to the nice lady about where she was from and how her day was going, after building up a 3 minute rapour, i handed the cards with the $50 over where she could see, after she saw the $50 her eyes nearly hit the keyboard. she said she could put us in a Grand suite with connecting suite but there was no spa in the suite my mom really wanted a spa so she gave her the best king spa room on the top floor with a cool stripveiw. the grand suite was nice a little dated and a bit dark in there, but had seporate living area and bedroom, fridge, microwave?(what would i use this for LOL), the view was really nice of the mountains and the valley it was on las vegas BLVD side of the world tower building but the veiw of the strip was obstructed by the tower.(if we bent our heads a little bit we could just see a little of Circus Circus.)

Well I did everything like it says to do... $20 between my drivers license and credit card, asked for complementary upgrade, she saw the $20 and said "you dropped this" i said "that's for you" She smiled and said thank you then told me that there were three upgrades available for the cost of $40, $70, and $100 a night... feeling quite stupid i took the $40. On a side note the Strat is a filthy place with poor air conditioning and i will never stay there again. I'll try this trick again at a better hotel in a few months.

No Dice For SPRUNT at Stratosphere...

Got there about 11 in the morning on 07-07-07. Finally got up to the check-in counter where there was an older, yet attractive woman working. I had my CC and license out with the $20 clearly visible and told her that my GF and I had decided to get married this trip and were curious if there were any complimentary upgrades available. Without even looking up from her screen she told us that all of the suites were taken for the rest of the week.

It didn't cost me anything, and something tells me that if it hadn't been 07-07-07 with the shitload of weddings going on in Vegas, plus the hordes of other superstitious gamblers, we may have had a shot.

I booked through Southwest Vacations and that may be why the upgrade was insubstantial. The room was slightly larger than a friend's World Tower room, and came with a small side-annex where we could play cards.

I booked the deal through thier promo 007VEGAS. It already had 2 for 1 buffet. While checkin, first I gave her my ID. Then while talking to her I gave my cc and beneath that I had 20 bill. I asked if there are any upgrades available. She saw the bill and smiled but didn't take it. Instead she told be that I could get upgrade stated above for 10$ per night. I was happy. After that I asked her about 2 for 1 buffet coupon and when she printed it out after some troble at printer, it had both the complementory buffets for free. I was happier.

Jackpot! Danny Got A Stratosphere Room Upgrade

I read about this trick on this and other sites and decided to give it a try. Me and my girlfriend walked up to the clerk and talked to her for a little bit and asked for any complimentary upgrades. While she was looking, I handed her my CC and $20 hidden underneath it. When she took the credit card she looked at the $20 and I said "That's for you" and she gave me a look like she understood what I was giving it to her for. She found an upgrade to the Player's Club room that was usually $75 dollars more a night and said she could give it to me for $15 more a night. On second thought, I should have pushed for more or at least tried to get this room for free, but being a rookie i agreed to the upgrade. The room wasn't that much nicer, it felt like a regular room with a SMALL living room attached. I'd still try the trick again, but this time I wouldn't settle at the first offer...but it does work.
