I didn’t give any money. Just very late check in, and early bird reservation (May- stay Aug.)
clerk, young and kind woman just did room upgrade. I didn’t know about it after open the room door. It’s current price is 160$. wow~ So I appreciated her, calling counter.
I did not get a choice of whitch clerk I got.
Got here at 12:30 on dec 17 2020
Trick did not work, he immediately returned the money with a smile and let me know that this time of year upgrading is near impossible because in spite of covid people still want to see their families at christmas and had pretty much booked everything already. He had a good attitude though.
I’ve been doing a lot of research on this $20 trick, so I decided to try it a two-day stay at the Stratosphere hotel. Since we were doing this, I decided to book the cheapest level rooms to see how much of an upgrade we would get.
My friend and I came on a Sunday afternoon around 4PM in the 2nd week of August. The check-in line in the lobby was very long, nearly a 20 – 30 minute wait! Tons of people trying to check in. At this point, I was rather doubtful that the trick would work since they probably wouldn’t have any availability (and the clerks all looked so busy). But boy, was I wrong! When I got to the front, I was greeted by a friendly young man. When he asked for my credit card and driver’s license, I handed him the $20 sandwich and asked in a low voice, “Are there any complimentary upgrades available?” As if by routine, he casually took the sandwich and replied with a hint of craftiness in his voice, “Ok, sir… let me see what I can do.” He then began typing away on his computer. At this point my heart was pounding with excitement since this was my first time! He then excused himself to and walked to a back room. I knew at this moment that the bribe had worked. He soon returned to the counter, finished my check-in on the computer, and handed me my room keys. “I’ve upgraded you guys to the Select Rooms in our newly-renovated building,” he said, “And here is a Take Vegas Back card to get special discounts throughout the resort!” The promotion card was already free to begin with if you sign up online, but it was a nice touch if you never knew about it.
The room was excellent; very clean, comfy, and beautiful! Definitely worth the $20.The only thing I would do next time is ask for a room with a “nice view”, because they gave us one that directly faced the parking structure – not the most romantic vegas scene!
Bottom line: Upgraded to the Stratosphere Select Rooms in the nice newly-renovated building, got a Take Vegas Back promotion card without signing up. Just be sure to ask for a room with a good view!
Younger guy, in his late 30’s. My friend and I checked in together, both gave a $20 sandwich. Our early check in fee was waived, we were upgraded to rooms that would’ve been $80 more a night. It’s definitely worth a try!
No room upgrade. The only thing I might have gotten is a king bed and early check-in. I do not know if early check-in or the king bed would have been given if I had not tipped $20. The room I got is on one of the lowest floors and it has no view whatsoever. Save your $20 in this hotel. This was my first time trying the $20 trick and probably my last.
Checked in late, two people working. Red haired older lady named Carol quickly shot me down. Said it wasn’t worth her job. Said other lady working would most likely not do it either. Was familiar with this website. They have a list with prices for upgrades and will offer a slight upgrade (newer room with jetted bathtub) I think anyone can get this if available. Did give me my $20 back.
Awful experience with check in waited almost 4 hours for a room. We were put in the world tower and had a nice room but the clerk was a jerk offered to upgrade us to a mini suite with a whirl pool bath tub for an extra 40.00 a day. We declined.
