Waited in a very long line for one of the 5 clerks available. Got a younger male and slipped him the sandwich while saying, "And we were wondering if there were any complimentary upgrades available." Feeling the cards, he knew what was going on and typed for a good 3-4 minutes before giving us our options: A strip view on the 36th floor of a larger room on the 9th. We chose to have the space as we're here for 6 nights. All in all, it was a GREAT investment.

Was my first time trying the $20 trick so I was a little nervous. The line took about 20 min and my girlfriend and friend were joking with me saying this was never going to work. When we got to the front of the line the next available person was an Asian woman in her early 20s. When she asked for my ID I slipped her the $20 sandwich. She quickly noticed it and set it on the side of her computer. I asked if there was any complimentary room upgrades available and she said she would see what she could do. She started typing things into the computer. Took a few minutes and then said here you go. I got you setup in a Resort room with a pool view. At that point I had a pretty big grin on my face as my girlfriend and friend were in disbelief that it was really that easy.

Found this information from this website and it worked perfectly for us. Slipped the $20 between ID and Credit Card, asked if there were any upgrades and the young girl smiled and asked if the Resort Vista would work. Easy and can be, not to mention the hotel and Casino is a very cool place to be. I will be back sooner than later, no doubt.

Put the $20 sandwich between credit card and license and asked if there were any complimentary upgrades? Clerk smiled and said he would check. Obviously, he had done this before. No suites were available but he did switch us to an excellent view of the Bellagio fountain. He also set up my players card which included a coupon book that had match plays and discounts.

Checked in about 1:30 pm, gave the clerk the sandwich and asked if there was any upgrade available. She typed for a while and showed us on a map what she had. She said she wanted to give us a good room and the best she had was a resort room(larger than Hollywood Hip) and with a partial view of the fountain. I said that would be great and mentioned that we didn't have to check in right now. She said oh in that case...typed again...and gave us a resort room with a better view of the Bellagio fountain. Great upgrade with a beautiful view.

It seems to me that the Planet Hollywood either turns a blind eye or even encourages this sort of activity. I checked in on Sunday well before the standard check-in time with a $20 sandwich. The front desk clerk already started to check for upgrades. He was more than helpful and even printed some coupons to be used at the buffet and shops, he even gave us a late check out. I noticed that the people checking in next to me were also doing the sandwich. It seems to be the norm at that hotel.

Did not target any clerk, just slipped the money as the sandwish says. It was night and all I said was "is there any complimentary upgrade available ?".
Clerk got my money beside the monitor and started checking me in. Tension moment :-)
2 minutes later he replied "you're lucky Sir, we do have complimentary upgrades available". The I asked a room with view to the Strip and that's exactly what I've got. Could see the Bellagio fountains from my bed !

Although my husband was unsure about the $20 sandwich, based on other's results, I was going to try it anyway. It worked beautifully. Not only did we get a room with a view, she removed the $5 a day resort charge (saving us $25), and gave us a late check out (4:00p.m.). Don't expect a fancy hotel, it is the refurb of the Aladin. My best advice for staying here is ignore the nicely dressed people who offer you free shows. The Planet is building condo's and they are trying to sell them, timeshare style. This high pressure sales presentation is not worth the free tickets or "lunch" that is offered. These sales people could teach used car sales men a few tricks... consider yourself warned!

Arrived at around 10:00 AM, way before check in time. Handed the clerk the sandwich and she typed away trying to find us a room. Offered the Resort Room with the fountain view which wouldn't be ready for a few hours. We said we'd wait but she wanted to do better. She kept typing and found us the Resort Vista which was ready for check in at the time and away we went. Fantastic room with great views of the strip from the room and bathtub. The trick this site taught us really made our trip.
