I just spent a 4 days at the Aladdin and I tried the 20 dollar trick and it worked without any problems. I asked about any upgrades and the guy looked down at my credit card and saw the 20 and said "no problem" They upgrade was only for a view of the Bellagio and pool but it being the same time as the Hooters International Pageant it was well worth the 20 spot. I was hoping we were getting the deluxe room with the couch but it was the low end room on the 32nd floor. When I inquired about a suite the guy at the desk told me that the low level suites only have a king size bed there is very little privacy and since we requested two queens we would be better off with the view.
This might not be the right forum to vent but we had a great time while we were there but some of the dealers and the girl at the sports book were down right miserable. I grew up around Atlantic City and never have I seen such disrespect out of people that the last time I checked were working for tips. The rest of the hotel staff were great but a lot of the gaming people brought us down a bunch. I would definetely stay there again but I think I will taking my gaming business across the street.
Also, one more warning. Check your credit card bill a few days after check out. We bought a few bottles of water at the ABC store in the mall at the Aladdin. When the maids cleaned our room and saw some empty water bottles on the counter and in the trash they charged us 4.99 per bottle as if we had drank the special Aladdin water. Even though the bottles were a different size and color they are told to charge any empty water bottles to the room. I had to call the Aladdin accounting to get the charge removed. What a pain and What a scam...Boo Aladdin!!! I bet they make millions a year on fradualent water charges to people that don't check their credit card Bills thoroughly enough.

I stayed at the Aladdin this past Sunday 7/2 - 7/6 and also paid $49.99 for the room. I'd actually booked 2 rooms because we were a party of 4. I asked if any upgrades were available and the check-in agent said "yes, at a price"... i told him to look and he offered me the Bellagio fountains view (the upgrade that everyone seems to get on here), so when I asked how much it cost he told me not to worry about it.
I pulled out my AMEX and stuck a 10 dollar bill underneath and handed it to him. As he starting putting in our info, another check-in agent came over and told him that he was trying to give his guests one of the rooms that was being taken. So our guy gave it back and looked up at me and told me that he'd just upgrade us again. We ended up with joining rooms, one of which was big enough to comfortably fit all 4 of us.
In a nutshell, Aladdin check-in staff seem the most open to taking "tips" for room upgrades in vegas. Be sure to check out McCormick's & Schmick's happy hour (3:30pm - 6:00) for a $2 1/2 lb burger and fries!

I was just in Vegas from June 29th to July 3rd. Checked into Aladdins and tried the 20 dollar trick even while knowing it will be a busy weekend. I asked how her day was, and tried to be as friendly as I can. Then I asked for a complimentary upgrade after slipping the 20 under the ID and she after a minute of typing, she said "we can give you a resort room with a view of the Bellagio fountains.
Room wasn't a suite but it was better than the one I would of ended up with. It was overlooking the pool, the Bellagio fountains and I was able to see fireworks on the 2nd. I checked the price difference of the room and it was $50/night difference. 20 dollars for the 4 night upgrade was worth it to me. I didn't bother to push her to give me a nicer room since it was a busy weekend but I think she would of offered me one if it was a slower weekend.
Oh yea, and I booked this on Priceline. Whoever said it doesn't work if you book through Priceline was probably just unlucky.

I tried the $20 trick at the Aladdin. I checked in around 11PM on Tues. June 13th. This was my first time, so I was pretty nervous. There is a lot of construction going on at the Aladdin, since they are converting it to Planet Hollywood. My cc is clear in parts of it, so I made sure the larger number (20) was showing through it. I handed it to him, did a double-take, looked down and saw the 20 through the card and turned to his computer. As I handed my card to him, I asked if there were any upgrades available. He did some work at the computer and said, "We don't usually do this, but we were able to get you a nice room near the elevator." I said thanks, and left to check out the room. He upgraded us from a deluxe room to the resort room for free. We didn't notice any construction going on, and we were the first room from the elevator. Def worth the $20

Stayed 3 nights at Aladdin - Worked like a charm and they upgraded us to a resort vista overlooking the strip from a standard room. (Amazing and was well worth it) Big change from the room we would have had. How do I know because the other person in my party checked in before and we compared the two rooms.

I tried the $20 trick at the Aladdin on a $59 night players club rate and was told no upgrades were available for player club rates so I pulled back the $20 and asked for a room with a view...she gave us a nice King room in the North tower on the 26th floor facing the fountains!

I just returned from the Aladdin. At the front desk, we asked the lady to check and see if there were any complimentary upgrades, slid the 20.00 under the credit card. She said sure and upgraded us from a standard deluxe to a resort room with a great view, a couch, and his and her sinks.

Stayed 3 night at Aladdin $49/night, asked for a room upgrade, front desk said no at first, but when he saw my bill under my credit card, he put my bill and credit card on the keyboard, then did a lot of typing, and asked me if smoking is ok for me... I accepted it, it was on 33rd floor with a view to the Paris tower and Bellagio fountain + a Jaccuzz in the bathroom.

Just rolled back in from Vegas and the Aladdin about 30 minutes ago. Stayed at Aladdin May 7-11, checked in around 12:20am Monday morning. Handed the girl my card with the 20 underneath and asked if there were any complimentary upgrades. She said she would check. After about 3-4 minutes of typing around, she said she had one for me on the 23rd floor (top floor of that set of elevators) that is normally 50 more per night. It was a good view, although it was on the south strip side. Bathroom was insanely large. Separate glass shower, bath tub, separate crapper, two sinks across the room from each other. Spacious enough sleeping area with a somewhat small couch. Two very large windows. BUT BUT BUT... my other friend who checked in some other guys got a room that was the EXACT same setup as mine, and did not tip the clerk. They didn't have as good of a view as us or as high up, but still got the same type of room. Didn't complain, tho, because I loved it for 69/night + 20 tip. Even got to see the Boardwalk get blown up at like 2:30 in the morning. I forgot what morning it was

just got back from the Aladdin (may 7-10) and the $20 trick worked great.
i put the folded 20 under my license and as i handed it to the guy i said "i was wondering if any room upgrades might be available."
he moved close to the desk, held the license close to himself, quickly slid the bill out far enough to see the denomination, then covered it again. he started typing and said, "just a moment, sir, i'll see what i can do."
a few seconds later, he handed back my license, the 20 had magically disappeared, and he said "i've upgraded you to a junior suite with a panoramic strip view."
the jr. suite is nice, it's located at the front of the tower with curved walls, facing the strip . mine had 5 windows, so the curvature allowed for a great view. the suite wasn't as large as some i've stayed in, but the bathroom was nice (one window above the tub) and had a tv you could watch from the bath or the shower. also, being located at the end of the hall, it was very quiet.

No Dice For Mikawl at Planet Hollywood...

Was in Vegas this past weekend from April 28th to May 1st. Checked in around 10PM at the Aladdin and slipped the $20 under my ID and asked if there were any complimentary upgrades. The girl searched and found a resort room ($50 more per night) but it was snatched by another front desk clerk before she could secure it. She kept looking diligently but found nothing and gave my $20 back. She found a room on the pool level that was slightly larger (large bathroom with dual sinks, separate tub and separate shower with seat) and literally steps aways from the pool. I tipped her a $5 for her trouble anyway. She told me to come back the next day and she would check again but I was happy with the location/size of the room she gave us. The trick definitely works!!

Just got back from the Aladdin. Stayed April 15th-19th. Asked if there were any upgrades available while flashing a $20 and the guy said let me check. Tapped on the computer for a minute then said he could "hook me up" with a resort room on the 15th floor overlooking the Bellagio fountain. So It worked like a charm. The guy at checkin knew exactly what was going on. Aladdins comps were nice too played very little and ended up with 2 free buffets, a tee shirt, a coffee cup, $50 in free slot play, and $16 Cash Back. Probably didn't spend more than 4 hours total in the casino the whole time we were there and only played the slots. I'm a $20 tip believer.

My boyfriend and I stayed at Aladdin with his brother/wife from April 9-16th. Line was really long at checkin, my boyfriend waited with our bags, and I went up with the other couple to check in.
We asked for available upgrades with a $50 in hand, the clerk said no immediately. We showed him a $50 we had folded up, and he bumped us to 2 resort view rooms on the same floor. We had a sofa, king beds, separate tub, shower, his/her sinks. It was great. We went with $50 because it was for 2 rooms and a week long stay we thought might be harder (especially given the long checkin line)
We wanted to stay on the same floor, otherwise he would've given us Bellagio fountain view rooms (he gave us our choice - same floor resort, or different higher floor resort with Bellagio view).
Not bad for $540+25 tip for the week with the spring aladdin special. Really enjoyed the visit overall, room was a great deal, construction not a problem at all. We also had a seemingly renovated room with Planet Hollywood memorabilia in the room.

Just got back from a 2 night stay at the Aladdin. I checked in at around 3PM at the front desk, and was greeted by a friendly older woman. It was me and my girlfriend's two year anniversary and I mentioned that near the beginning of a little chit chat. Then I took out my wallet as I started talking about how I wanted a nice room to celebrate our anniversary in style, and she said that she would definitely try to hook us up. We were booked for the most inexpensive room in the hotel at $69/night but she told us that she put us in the Strip Suite with a view of the Bellagio Fountains on the 32nd floor. She gave me everything that I needed for the room and she left without even giving me time to shake her hand with the $20 that I had waiting for her. So...I suppose the $20 trick didn't exactly work, but just being friendly was helpful enough.
Thanks for all the tips, everyone! It was a great trip!!!!!!!

My husband were in town with friends and family for an event. Everyone left town on Sunday and we decided to stay one more night and splurge on a nice room. We were told the Aladdin had nice rooms so we just walked in, up to the desk, and asked if they had rooms available. They did, and when I slipped him $50, suddenly a high floor suite became available. Our room had a 360 degree, floor-to-ceiling view, two flat screen TVs, one of which was over 50". We had the full treatment from robes and special soaps. there was a whirlpool tub overlooking the strip. Nine months later, exactly, we had our first child, a beautiful little girl. Thanks Aladdin!
