My girlfriend arrived at the Paris at about 12:30pm on a Monday with a pretty good sized line, that was moving luckily because 4 clerks and a manager was working. I was backing off on trying the trick cause I saw the manager, but luckily I got a clerk at opposite end of the desk. I handed her my sandwich with 40 (20 from me and 20 from my girl), and asked if there was any upgrades available. She immediately put the money to the side, and clicked away on the keyboard. She kept talking saying she was looking for a nice room that was clean, and wrote down 5 different room #s on a pad. As those didn't work out cause they weren't clean, she gave us a room on the 30th floor. She said it had a nice view of the strip and mentioned if I had paid for it, it would have been $75 more a night. She gave me the keys and hotel information and shook my hand as if she was very thankful for the tip.
When we got to the room and I saw the red leather baseboard and high def TV, I was immediately pleased. Then I saw the view and felt like I was in heaven. This tip was the best thing ever.

Paris was sold out the whole weekend and I checked in early at noon, so I figured I wouldn't have luck but tried it anyway.
The woman was nice, I gave her the 'sandwich' small talked her and politely asked for an upgrade to a room w/ a view. She tapped away and told me that usually the room would cost at the minimum an additional $65 per night(which is correct). She thanked me for the tip and gave me the upgraded room free of charge on the 15th floor.
The higher rooms have a complete view of the fountain I would try for a room higher than the 20th floor for a full view of the fountains and ask for the newer Red Rooms. My room had a great view although a little of the Eiffel Tower peaked through but I was happy nonetheless.
If the weekend wasn't 'hot', and the hotel wasn't sold out I would have requested a Red Room with a view but I didn't want to press my luck since I paid almost nothing for the original room.
Just want to add that the older rooms do not have flat screens but are perfectly fine at a reduced rate. The hotel is in a great location, offers a great breakfast buffet and has a nice mix of clientele and the Burger/ sports bar is great to watch games and have a good burger.

Had reserved 2 standard rooms on hotel's website in hot deals section for 5 nights and under same cc. Checked in around 1PM. Presented $20 underneath cc & id so clerk could discretly see bill as it was lowered to his hand. Asked if any comp upgrades were available. Friendly clerk typed a bit and offered upgraded rooms with view. Both rooms were almost identical, they were renovated with huge flat-screen tvs, 1 was on 28th and the other on the 29th floor. Both rooms were very nice and comfortable. Great idea!

Late Check-In.. Asked how busy they were and if there was any possibility of an upgrade, while placing cash on top of the desk. Clerk asked what I had in mind and I asked for Calais Suite. She did some searching and gave me a LeMans Suite on the 31st floor facing the mountains.

Gave my cc and id, and placed the $50 in front of me on the counter...simply said, this is for you if you can put me into a better room at no charge. She grinned, did a little typing, and hooked me up. Great room, great view. Will always try this little trick in the future.

Flight landed late Sunday night and my wife and I checked in around midnight or so for a five night stay. I got a steal of a rate on the Red Rooms for about $90 per night. (Basic rooms were about $50) I was unsure if the sandwich trick would work and since this was our first time in Vegas I wanted to get a somewhat more luxurious room so I booked more than just the basic one. Paris was selected for being near centre of The Strip and the deal offered was a very rare one.
The clerk was a male in his mid to late thirties. I did not target a specific clerk as there were practically no options this late at night. However, I knew from reading on this site that later hours were generally better for trying to score a deal as the circus at the front desk during check in time makes it tough for the clerk to help you. My wife stood by the bags at the casino floor entrance. I sandwiched up $30 with my credit card and passport and moved in.
After explaining who I was and that I had a reservation I handed over the package and asked:“Do you have any room upgrades available or rooms with a great view?” He hacked away on the computer for what was only about a minute and a half but seemed like forever. “Yes I do have an upgrade available for you Mister Smith.” He explained that it was a completely free and complimentary upgrade to a $1300/night suite on the 32nd floor. The clerk then innocently asked if the money was for him. I nearly laughed out loud because it was so forced and obvious. I told him it certainly was and thanked him profusely for his help.
I kept the upgrade a secret and headed to the elevator with my wife. Hit the button for the 32nd floor and she asked on the ride up,“Where are we staying?” just as the elevator doors opened at the top. Two southern boys were getting on the elevator as the doors opened and they heard her question. They answered and nearly letting the cat out of the bag.
“If you are up this high, you’ve got a great room,” they told her with a smile.
I let her know as we walked down the hall that she is really not going to believe this. I knew that a suite this expensive would be unlike anything either of us had experienced. I opened up the double doors for her to go first then followed inside. The suite was huge. Two couches, a powder room a glass top dining room table and a small entertainment unit were immediate visible. The decoration was lovely and The Strip at night was visible out of the two huge windows.
This room was nice. Really nice. So nice, in fact, that she took one look around the room, turned around to me and started to cry.
Double doors to a master bedroom with a King-Sized bed and a spectacular view of the Bellagio Fountains were explored next. The bathroom was all marble with a tub big enough for two and deep enough to submerge to your neck. Perfect for relaxing!. The shower stall was so large that four people could fit. The water closet even had a bidet! There was plenty of space in this bathroom for two people to get cleaned up and ready for a night on the town and never get in each other’s way.
Needless to say our vacation was spectacular and the accommodations we got were a big part of that reason. Truly amazing. The experience was enough that I confidently tout Paris as an excellent option for Vegas and it was enough to convince my parents to stay there in November 2009. We are returning to Vegas next month (February 2010) and if we score again I will be sure post about it.
Good luck to everyone trying out this trick. It really can work!

Reserved a standard room with 2 nights comped and 2 nights at $77 / night. Put the $20 on the counter with credit card and ID and asked fora complimentary upgrade. She checked and offered either a room with a view or a renovated room. She said either was a $40/night upgrade. We got an email before our trip offering the view room for $50/night. We took the renovated room and were very happy.

Gave the girl the sandwich, when she saw it she made a high pitched "ohhhh" sound which almost made me crack up. She then told me they were out of regular rooms and ask if I wanted the presidential suite. I accepted. The suite is one of their best and I don't think it's opened to the public since you can't book this online.

We tried this and had no luck sadly. The clerk did offer us a paid upgrade but we declined. I asked if she could do the best she could for us in the room type we had and whether it was coincidence I'm not sure but our room was fab! It must have been recently renovated as was lovely and we had a partial view of the Bellagio fountains. Shame we didn't get upgraded as we were on our honeymoon but would have no complaints about the room we got anyway.

Checked in about 9pm on a busy friday, Paris had a promotion for Free Wii with stay and prior to leaving we found that they were all booked up.. We had reserved our room with the free room/ free Wii package and were not surprised to see that. No way in Platinum line as it was late, we got a lady named BO at the desk. Did the sandwich with a $50, she noticed it and said nothing.. As it was my first attempt at this I started to mumble a bit about just hopin for the best, she helped me out by cuttin me short and saying she was looking for something good. She said she thought we would be happy, she was putting us in a penthouse suite that she said would go for $1800 a night. Wow she was not kidding we got room 3383P an "NICE Suite" on the top floor. It was huge with living room, dining room, bar, two bathrooms, bidet and very large jacuzzi tub. Excellent experience as well because we order room service nearly every day when me make it back to the room and I tell you they really hustled to get our food the the penthouse, wait time would be 45 min to an hour but our order was always up in 15. All around awesome!

Caught an early flight into Vegas from Detroit and got to the hotel around 9am. My wife and I figured that we'd get stuck with having to wait til 4pm to check in, so I gave the $20 tip trick a shot. I had a super personable attendant named Sandy. My apologies if I was wrong, but she looked a little older so I got kinda nervous. Nonetheless, after some polite chitchat, I handed her my id+visa with a 20 dollar bill sandwiched in between. She kinda chuckled when she noticed it, and said, 'what's this?'. I simply tried my charming best, and asked if she could give us a nice view, that'd be awesome. She went in the back for a bit, and when she came out we continued some small talk (I mentioned it was my wife's first trip to Vegas, blah blah blah). She apologized for not having a king bed room, but she did have a queen double ready for check in. So we took it...and wow, what a view! We were dead center, facing the pool, eiffel tower and the Bellagio. When I explained to my wife what I had done, she was shocked! She had no idea that a simple tip could make that much of a difference. Had a great stay at Paris - but avoid the one men's shop in the hallway to Ballys. The clerk there was a slimey pretty boy who tried to guilt me into giving him a tip for buying a simple pair of socks. Overall GREAT experience at the hotel, and the best $20 I spent all stay!

We got to the hotel about 12:30 in the afternoon and there was a short line. When we reached the clerk, I handed her my drivers license and credit card with a $20 sandwiched in between, and I asked her if there were any complimentary upgrades available. My wife was unaware of what I was doing and when the twenty dropped out onto the clerks's keyboard, my exclaimed (loudly), "Hey what was that, did you mean to do that?" (groan...).
The Clerk was very nonchalant about it and said, "Let's see what we can do for you." We also told her it was my wife's 40th birthday, so maybe that helped too, but who knows. All I know is that the view was great on the 22nd floor.

I checked in around 11:30 in the morning and there was barely a line. I had a twenty slipped in between y credit card and driver's license beforehand so I just handed it to her and asked if there were any complimentary upgrades. She typed away for about five minutes and said there is a P room ready on the 25th floor. Room was great, large and newly renovated.

Tried with a $50 for an upgrade and was told she could not accept the money as their are no free upgrades but if I wanted to pay extra. So I paid extra for a great view of Bellagio on the 21st floor since the trip was a graduation present from college for my daughter.

Clerk said she could not give an upgrade unless she charged me the standard amount. I declined. The room I go had a partially obstructed view of the Bellagio Fountains. From her mannerisms and the quick way she shot it down it seems as if their management may be cracking down on the whole thing. If you want an upgrade like this, stay at a different hotel - It has worked for me a 3 others.
