No Dice For Jesse at Mirage...

We checked in around 11:30 pm. We did the trick, and told "Sorry" and that there was nothing they could do. We had our 1 year old son with us (who is a chick magnet) and even mentioned that we were getting married (we were). We got nothing complimentary, and we were at the end of the hall on the fifth floor, so no view at all. The A/C was broken in the room, and even when we called about that, it was fixed, but still no upgrade. We were pretty disappointed (seems all our guests got better rooms than us).

I folded the $20 between my credit card and drivers license and handed it to the desk clerk at the Mirage. He quickly pocketed the bill, and asked what he could do for me. I told him that I would like a really nice room for my wife and I for our 6 nights. He gave us a beautiful Deluxe jacuzzi room on the 25th floor (with private elevator). It was fantastic.

No Dice For alicia at Mirage...

We were there early 1pm. Every single check-in person was an attractive female and age 20-30. I picked one and broke the ice asking how she was doing yadda yadda. She was very nice... so i thought i was in. I asked her if there were any upgrades available and i would really appreciate it if there was anything she could do since it was my anniversary. I had the 50 between my credit card and DL. She totally saw it before i gave it to her cause i saw her looking at it as she was typing... She said just a minute and called someone twice and went in the back. She said they were sold out of suites (which i kinda believed). She gave me the money back and gave me a bunch of line passes to every place there which was nice, but i never used em. I will try it again though 4sho.

Fairly busy, maybe 10 people working the desk. Clerk was Asian. Sandwiched the Bills between the cards. The guy was obviously used to it. Said, "We do have an upgrade available..." and gave it to us. Explained what we'd be getting so, presumably, we could decline if it wasn't good enough. I think the quality of the upgrade is based on availability more than tip size.

No Dice For Freeze at Mirage...

Have stayed at the Mirage often, and usually do this "trick"- stumbled on this website and more power to you. I believe the clerk looked for "something good" but put me in a very standard room with no view on the 23rd floor (not private.) This seems like a clear failure to me.

My girlfriend and I booked thru Travelocity for 6 nights 7 days for a standard room. Since I was staying for so many nights I decided to use a $100 bill. Upon check in and having the bill inbetween the card and ID I asked if there were any upgrades to a suite with a pool view on the private floor. When she saw the 100 her eyes lit up and she went to work on the computer. Sadly she said nothing was available but would give us a volcano view room and handed back the 100 and said the room would not be ready for about 2 hours. It was 9 in the morning. I gave her a 20 for the volcano view room and we went to walk around till room was ready. When we returned she saw us and waved us to her line. She then smiled and went to work on the computer. She said she got us what we wanted after all. So I gave her the other $80 at that point. We were on the 24th private floor with a hot tub suite with a view of the pool and the strip. We were extremely please with everything at the Mirage. Highly highly recommended.

Great website! I was nervous for my first run at the $20 trick. Only females working check-in so that added to the tention. I put the $20 between CC and ID. Told the young lady that my wife and I were celebrating our 5 year anniversary and then asked for any complementary upgrades. She said sure and then saw the $20. She said you don't need to give me this, its your anniversary! Got upgraded to 24th (private) floor with volcano view and jacuzzi. I will try this everytime from now on.

I had purchased a package from Vegas so the room was already prepaid and the clerk just asked for my ID. I slipped the 20 under the ID so that she could feel it when she took my ID. I asked if I could get an upgrade to a suite. She replied that the hotel was totally booked up and the best she could do was to put me on a higher floor with a strip view. The view was great by the way. She said there was availability on Sunday and that I could call the front desk to get an upgrade to a suite. I went ahead and called on Sunday only to have to pay for an upgrade to a suite if I wanted it. I of course turned it down.

Jackpot! Mike Got A Mirage Room Upgrade

I read this web site right before I went on my trip. When I was standing in line to check in, I overheard a desk clerk tell someone that the hotel was full, so I was afraid the trick wasn't going to work. But, when it was my turn, I went ahead and folded up a $20 and handed it to the clerk under my credit card and ID. As I handed it to her, I asked if there were any upgrades available. She said she would check, and discretely took the $20 and put it in the desk somewhere. Then she called someone on the phone, asked for a room, and then said that she could give us a volcano view with a "delux" room that had a larger bathroom. The room was nice, two sinks and a whirlpool tub, and a great view of the strip and the volcano. The 25th floor was also nice because there is a private elevator for just the 25th and 24th floors, so the elevator trips were always quick.

I think this worked out great, and plan on trying again in the future.

No Dice For tgif777 at Mirage...

Already is an upgrade when I reserved the room. Slip a $20 bill and ask is there any comp. upgrade. She said the hotel is full for the Christams weekend. But she comp. me for the buffet for my family and give me a line pass if me and my friends decide to dine at the Mirage buffet again. Boy, was that pass useful. Our group total is 16 people. We try to have buffet at Wynn on the 24th. We start line up at 5 and the wait time is mininium 4 hours. All the kids in my group can't wait that long. Then we decide to use my line pass to dine at Mirage. We go right in and no need to line up. Regular line is like 3-4 hours wait. (Heard a wife got mad at her husband because of the wait). The check in clerk also give us a champagne and give me the $20 back.

I said to the clerk, "I know we already have an upgrade to a Volcano view room but wanted to know if there was any other upgrades available." I had the $20 between my cards and I think she saw it.
She said we could get a mini suite for $75 (don't know if she meant total or per night). We declined. She wrote down our room number and had a feeling we were getting an upgrade as I heard that the 24 and 25 floors are accessible through the prive elevator.

When we walked to the elevators, I knew it was true.

We got the upgrade like I wanted and didn't even get a chance to give her the tip.

The next three nights were spent at the Mirage. Did the "move" and got a premium view room which is a nice room overlooking the pool with a strip view. I highly recommend front desk tipping. I live 150 miles from Vegas and travel there 4-5 times a year. When you book a standard room in Vegas, you are very likely to get a room overlooking the air conditioners or the back parking lot if you don't upgrade.

we picked out which one of the 7 front desk chk in clerk hotties we would try this on... she was cute hot and beautiful..... all i could as for in a wifey we made good fun small talk i slipped the 20 between the ID and CC and she dropped it on the counter and said Oh here u go and handed it back to me...

we asked for an complementary upgrade and she looked around on the Comp and said we can get u in to a private floor with a jacuzzi tub... so i smiled and said OKAY lets do this, after all the paperwork was done i gave her the 20 and went on my way... but when we got in the room, it was facing the desert...and was a small suite same size as the standard room...so we decided to just get the room we were suppose to... that had the view... so all in all 20 didn't really get us a larger room...which is what i wanted... Boooo

we did get some perks as we got in nice with the front desk clerk the one that we gave the 20 to...
Cuts in to the Club, Club JET in the Mirage as well as free entry for my 3 male family members 120 dollar Value since they were Charging 30 a head...

I went with my girlfriend at the time and the check in girl told us she was inputting into the reservation system that it was our 10 year anniversary. Seeing as at the time I was 24 and she was 21, it seemed a bit far-fetched, but I'm not going to argue.

This information really works! My friend and I went to the front desk of The Mirage in Feb. 2010. I booked the least expensive room, a deluxe, through the Mirage web site. I selected the friendly looking, smiling desk clerk. She was about 22 to 24 years old and looked nice. The other clerks looked busy or unhappy so that's why I picked her. It was about 3 p.m. on Friday afternoon. My friend's birthday was in a few weeks so here's what happened. When asked for my credit card and ID, I put a folded $20 bill in between (the sandwich). I then said, "we're here celebrating my friend's birthday, do you have any complimentary upgrades?" She saw the $20 and gave me a big smile then said, "Absolutely!" She gave me a choice of 3 different pool view or strip rooms and apologized that they didn't have any tower rooms (lots more expensive) available. We got a room that would've been about $40 to $50 more per night saving us about $90 total with taxes all for just the $20 tip! To be honest, since we're friends and not a couple, we wouldn't have taken a 1-bed tower room anyway, but it sure sounds like we could have gotten one if they weren't booked. It was a great experience and the 17th floor (instead of the 5th floor) room had an incredible view of the pool and the strip. The Mirage staff, teh room and our weekend we're all fantastic. We had a great a time. Thanks so much FRONTDESKTIP.com. You are awesome!!!

Came in Friday night 11pm to say for Halloween weekend. I thought all the good rooms would be taken, but decided to go for the upgrade anyway. All the front desk workers were female and 20-30. So I walked up to one and put my twenty folded under my credit card and ID and gave it to her immediately. She gave me an "Oh whats its for" look. I immediately said, "i was wondering if you could upgrade our room". She picked up the phone and it seems like she spoke to a manager, I didnt hear the first part of the conversation, but i heard her say "I want to upgrade them". Seems like it was easy for her and we got upgraded instantly to the 25th floor with a strip/pool view. Still surprised it worked for such a busy weekend!

Jackpot! Gino Got A Mirage Room Upgrade

My boyfriend and I booked our trip through Southwest Airlines. Just the standard room and we asked for a king bed and the highest possible floor. This was our first trip to Vegas, so we were extremely excited and wanted the first trip to be in a really nice hotel. I had heard about comps and upgrades and wanted tips on how to get them. I actually stumbled on this website randomly, and I'm glad I did!

Our plane got in around 9am, and we probably got to the hotel around 10am. Very early for check in, but we figured we'd try. We sat off to the side for a few minutes because it was a little busy and we were trying to figure out who was a manager, honestly we were a little nervous about it lol. We finally went up and I sort of dropped the ball. I asked about the upgrade before I actually handed the girl the id/cash/card to which she immediately replied "no,I'm sorry, there are no upgrades available." She told us we could have a room on the 19th floor with a mountain view. At this point, I had already taken the cash back and we noticed a pink pin on her blazer that stated "I'm new, but I'm trying" lol. She was a trainee. After talking to her a little more, we decided to check our bags at the bell station, walk around a bit and try checking in a bit later. She had said more rooms might be available later in the day, but couldn't guarantee it.

When we came back, it was about the same as far as how busy it was, but we didn't wait long. It was probably around 1pm or so. We made sure to avoid anyone with a pink button ;) and this time I asked about the upgrades while handing the id/cash/card to the girl. She gave a little smirk and said "I'll see what I can do". Only took a minute and she told us she has a room on the 25th floor, volcano/strip view with a whirlpool jet tub, would that be ok? We were ecstatic and a bit surprised that it worked! We also mentioned it was our 3 year anniversary (which it was) and she had a complimentary bottle of champagne sent up for us! Another bonus is that there are elevators that are exclusively for guests staying on the 24th and 25th floors. :)

We figured, if everyone is doing $20, we'll try $40 and see what that gets us. We were gonna be in Vegas and probably gamble a little anyway, so why not try gambling for a better room? In all honesty though, I don't think the clerk saw how much money we gave her and probably would have gotten the same thing with just $20.
