Jackpot! ILBTS Got A MGM Grand Room Upgrade

Arrived in Vegas 10 AM. Went to check in counter at LAS, presented the sandwich and asked if there were any comp upgrades available. I explained that we were on our 10th anniv. and they said they would see what they could do. The associate said that I could go to a Celeb Spa Suite either on a lower floor right now, or wait till the afternoon for one on a higher floor. After the 5+ hour flight I took the first available. Booked with Promo code at $69.00/ night, made my trip a better one thanks to this site.

No Dice For Teresa at MGM Grand...

Told the clerk that I would be staying for my birthday (true) and asked if there were any complimentary upgrades available. Before I even finished talking and handing her the sandwich, she told me they didn't have anything available even if she were to charge me. She offered me one of the renovated rooms, but I declined.

No Dice For Friend at MGM Grand...

Our flight landed around 12:30 on a Monday afternoon and we checked in at the airport about 1:00. The clerk was a male in his late 20s/early 30s and was pretty nice even though he couldn't help me out. If you're staying at the MGM I would definitely recommend checking in at the airport. Though I was disappointed I did not receive a $20 upgrade, the check-in process could not have gone more smoothly.

We didn't have a car service booked ahead of time, so we paid for MGM's van service. Going from the airport to the hotel was fine. However, getting from the hotel to the airport a few days later was a nightmare. My attractive advice is to not use MGM's van service when you are trying to make a flight. The van was over forty minutes late! Granted, we left (or tried to leave) well in advance of our flight's departure and the flight ended up being delayed by four hours, but waiting for that damn van to show up added a ton of stress to the end of what had been a relaxing vacation. MGM does not run these vans directly; it's a third party service. Calls to the service to find out when our scheduled van would show up only added fuel to the the fire that already burned within my soul. For twenty minutes they kept insisting that the van was 'pulling up to the hotel.' Of course, once it arrived, it then had to pick up guests staying at Excalibur.

Also, if you join MGM's Player's Club and want comps, you need to gamble a lot. Only spending a ton of money on shows and food won't cut it!

No Dice For Sgt. Hooters at MGM Grand...

Checked in at invited guest counter. The clerk asked for ID and credit card. I gave her that, along with a $20 and asked if there were any upgardes. Before I could finish my sentence, she gave attitude and said no. She still tried to keep the $20 tip....unbelievable!! I reached across the counter and scooped it up.Don't try it if the girl is about 30, Asian with black shoulder length hair and an attitude!! From the begining, we could tell the girl had an attitude problem.

Handed cc and id with $20 in each set so $40 in all i asked if any comp suites were available she tapped away for a few minutes and said she was sorry but there were no more left and she handed the $40 back to us she said though that she had 2 opposite each other with a nice veiw on a high floor but thats the best she could do. we did say that we didnt want the west wing as the rooms are too small. She was very helpful and a really nice girl so we gave her $20 for trying anyway. but we were more than happy with what we got. the rooms were great and the bed was probly the most comfortable i ever slept in. when i checked out i go one nights comped room and all the meals i had in the buffet and resturants comped also. i realy enjoyed the MGM-grand/"target="_blank">MGM Grand and would go back in a second.

Jackpot! joe Got A MGM Grand Room Upgrade

We arrived on Sunday morning at 9:35. And I decided to try it at the airport because I have read on this site and others that there is more success at the airport check-in. I was pretty nervous but I knew I had nothing to lose. So I approached the desk and handed her my ID, credit card, and cash (I put the cash on the bottom so that she would know for sure it was there). As I was handing her those things I asked if they had an complimentary upgrades available. She immediately took the cash and placed it next to here keyboard. It seemed like she was trying to hide it from plain view. She then said "let me see what I can do". She then offered the Bungalow Suite and I said "that sounds great". I think, however, that I might have been able to get an even better suite if I would have asked for a specific one. Overall, I think it is definitely worth the $20.

Checked in at lunchtime. Asked for a complimentary upgrade, preferably a Bungalow Suite like the one I had last time. Finishing the room took 3 more hours but I decided to go for it. Got one at the 28th floor, close to the elevator. Unfortunately without a great view (looking over Hooters and the airport).

Jackpot! Karen Got A MGM Grand Room Upgrade

We checked in at the airport at about 10:00 am. I told the front desk agent that if there were any upgrades available I would appreciated it, as my husband and I were celebrating our anniversary (which was true). He took the "sandwich" and set it on his keyboard, and quickly showed me the Celebrity Spa Suite in the brochure and said that he could put us in one of those rooms. That is exactly what I had wanted (over a Bungalow), so I was happy that he immediately went there without my having to ask!

* Apparently, checking in earlier in the day is your best bet. My brother-in-law and his wife who were meeting us there arrived at about 12:15. They checked in at the hotel front desk and tried the trick. They were told (by a female front desk agent) that there had already been too many upgrades that day, and all she could do was offer them the Celebrity Spa Suite for an additional $25/night, and she kept their $20 - so for them it cost $70 in all.

No Dice For champ at MGM Grand...

Checked in at 7:30 pm. I gave the young woman the $20 and asked for a celebrity spa or bungalow suite. She said none were available (you could book either suite on their website)and tried to give me a room in the West Wing. I said that those rooms were too small. She gave me the Grand Tower on the 22 floor with a good strip view, along with 2 shuttle passes. I was dissappointed as I really wanted the better room. I was not happy that they tried to push the West Wing room as an upgrade. They give you the line that the West Wing room is newly refurbished with a plasma tv, but it is a tiny room. The person checking in next to me got a Grand Tower room on a lower floor. They tried to push the West Wing room, but he also complained about its size. He did not offer $20. I have seen that others on this site have had a similar experience and felt that their effort was successful.I do not feel that this effort was successful. They told me to check availability at 11am the next morning for a possible upgrade. I called and they tried to sell me an upgrade. I got a good rate ($69 a night for 5 nights / players club rate) but I believed that the hotel was not honest with me and just wanted more money from me.

No Dice For Bj at MGM Grand...

Used the airport check-in when it opened at 9:00am. Handed over the "card sandwich" and asked if any complimentery upgrades were available. The dark-skinned gentleman put the cards (and cash) on his keyboard, and typed for about 30 seconds. He said there was nothing available, and handed me back my credit card with the cash underneath.
The trick may have failed because we were booked for 5 nights starting on a Saturday, and he was probably looking for a room available for the whole time.

The people next to us were trying to get two adjacent rooms with a good view (but they didn't do the trick!), and were told that there wasn't very many sets of adjacent rooms available, and that they may want to try again after 11am when more people have checked out.

I checked in with a cute ethiopian girl in her mid 20's. I handed her my cc and ID with the $20 on top and told her I'd appreciate anything she could do to make our trip better. We were trying to sneak 4 people into the suite and had only paid for 2 people but she gave us 4 key cards and a roll away bed as well.

There was no line and I didn't have the sandwich ready when I got to the desk so I first haded my ID and then the CC and $20. I asked about upgrades and he offered a bungalow suite for $25 more a night (instead of $50), I declined. He offered a West Wing room, which is smaller than the standard room, but more recently renovated and very modern. They normally go for $25 per night more. I accepted, but was really hoping for a suite. He kept the $20 in view throughout the transaction and even held it up and thanked me for my generosity at the end.

I also stayed at South Point for two nights but didn't try it there as their standard rooms are quite large, I was only paying $30/night for the room, and I didn't see any reports here about trying it there. South Point was nice for a day to relax from the non-stop action of the strip and then catching their early free shuttle to the airport.

I'm not sure what kinda suite I got, but after reading what some people said about tipping at MGM-grand/"target="_blank">MGM Grand, I opted not to try the $20.00 trick. Instead I figured I would use what God gave me. I'm five months pregnant with a nice round belly right now, and just asked the girl really nicely to put my husband and I in a nice room. I had a friend staying in a regular room so I know that she actually did upgrade us.

Jackpot! showtime Got A MGM Grand Room Upgrade

We had booked two standard rooms at the players' club rate of $69.99/night. We checked in at the airport and did the trick with $20/room. She said that she didn't have two suites available because of the Labor Day holiday, but that she could get us one suite with an adjoining normal room. She told us to call back the next morning to see what was available in regard to two suites.
