Jackpot! Dreammy Got A MGM Grand Room Upgrade

Checked in at the airport. Approached the desk and I young man helped me. I passed over my "sandwich" and inquired about complimentary upgrades. I had a tower room and he offered a bungalow at no charge or a Celebrity Spa suite for 25 a night with apologies that he could not do better as the hotel was very booked. I decided to stay with my Grand Tower suite and asked if he could get me a room on a high floor near an elevator. He gave me a room in the 27th floor two doors down from the elevator with the most spetacular view you could imagine! I said thank you so much and he passed the twenty back to me and smiled!

The airport checkin desk was packed, so I had to chance it at the front desk at the hotel. I did the "sandwich" trick. and asked if they had any complementry upgrades. She saw he 20 and set my card and money down on the keyboard, and started typing away. She said she would be right back, and walked over to a manager. When she came back, she pulled out a brochure and said "this is the room you had reserved, and this is what I can upgrade you too for no charge" (West Wing Room) I asked if she had anything bigger, and she said no because of a REMAX convention. I said "ok" I took the west wing, which was AWESOME!! She even gave me my $20 back. TRICK WORKS!!!! WORTH A TRY!!!

Handed over my ID and credit card with the $20 wedged in between and asked if there were any complimentary upgrades available.
We were offered a West Wing room but these are quite small and not on very high floors; she then offered a Premium Strip View room on the 27th floor instead - a standard room but with a decent view - we went for that and as we didn't really get a full-on upgrade she gave me back the $20!

Checked in around 6pm. We had reserved two standard rooms, one for me and one for my parents. At check in I told the clerk that we were there to celebrate my parents' 30th wedding anniversary (it really was) so if he could do anything to get them a nice room that I'd appreciate it.
He checked the computer and then said that he could combine our reservations so we pay the same amount but rather than 2 standard rooms he'd put us in a 2 bedroom suite. We graciously accepted and then he told us it wasn't ready yet and so for the inconvenience of waiting for the room he'd comp us each a buffet. I was beyond happy.
The huuuge room had a 5 person dining table, full bar, living room, 2 master suites with awesome bathrooms each and a 180 degree panoramic view from the airport landing strip all the way to Bellagio/PH.
I cupped a $20 in my palm and shook hands with the clerk (leaving it in his hand) and thanked him for treating my parents so well. He was very happy to receive the tip. I didn't offer nor show a 20 when asking if he'd help secure us a nice room either.
Good luck!!

Jackpot! PokerRate Got A MGM Grand Room Upgrade

Checked into the MGM on Friday night of busy President's Day Weekend (plus there was a big fight on Saturday night) for a 3 night stay. Tried the drivers license credit card sandwich with the $20 peeking out and initially was immediately shot down by the clerk. He said that all of the suites were full because of the busy weekend but to come back the next morning (Saturday) and he would see what he could do. Came back Saturday and he was able to give me a queen bungalow suite so I gave him the $20 (I think he was expecting more by his reaction). He offered the 1,500 sq foot Marquee suite for $300 dollars (total) for the next two nights but I was only interested in the Terrace suite (2 story suite with jacuzzi on balcony overlooking strip) and those were unfortunately all booked. Also I was still able to get the poker rate ($40 dollars off per night down to min rate of $89/night for 4 hours of play) even though my room got upgraded. All in all a success!

Did the sandwich, asked for any upgrades or a better view. The clerk typed a few minutes, went to speak to a manager (who shook their head). The clerk returned to tell me that they had no rooms with a better view that fit my requirements, and no free upgrades. Returned my 20.

Attempted sandwich at MGM check in at airport. As a newbie, I could not summon up the courage to ask for a complimentary upgrade, so I asked if there was anything he could do for us to make our stay more enjoyable - a better view, etc. He said there wasn't much he could do, but gave us two free buffets. Then he gave me back the $20 and told me was not allowed to accept it! I looked for managers but didn't spot any - maybe I was wrong. I count this as a success anyway!

Airport check-in not available this evening. We arrived at the MGM at 10:15 on Friday evening. The hotel lobby was moderately busy and we were greeted by a hotel employee who was directing arriving guests to available registration desks. I did note a manager wandering around behind the registration clerks. I handed the clerk my license and credit card with a folded $20 partially sticking out. At the same time I asked if there were any complimentary suite upgrades available this evening. The clerk spotted the cash immediately and promtly removed it and stuck it in plain view on top of the counter while saying, "I'm going to leave this right here". She tapped twice on her keyboard and quickly told me there were no suites available - almost too quickly to be believable. I took the $20 bill and put it back in my pocket.
The woman was very professional and courteous throughout our interaction but I got the distinct feeling that her deliberate placement of the bill in such plain view and in such a quick fashion was her way of telling me "this is not going to happen and I want nothing to do with this money". It reminded me of a blakjack dealer clearing her hands for the "eye in the sky".
This was my first attempt but I'm not disuaded - I have no problem believing that this would definitely work under the right circumstances with the right person behind the desk.

No go at the MGM, and they had upgrades available. There wasn't a manager on hand or anything either so it's not like she was worried about getting busted. Handed a $50 between my CC and DL, and asked for a complimentary upgrade. She didn't seem to be too quick on the uptake. She went into a schpeel on how she could upgrade for $40 a night which I did... which anyone can do if they have availability. Not exactly going above and beyond. She then asked me what the money was for in a manner that made me think she believed was acutally going to be able to keep it as a tip I reached over the counter, and grabbed my $50 back.

Gave the $20 sandwich to the clerk. She asked what was this for and I explained I was looking for a nice upgrade. She tried to refused but I insisted she keep it. Then she asked if I was interested in an upgrade for only $50 a night. I hinted at the $20 again and asked if there were any beter deals available. She then said this other type of suite was available for $50 a night. I said I'll take the standard room. She then said I'll make sure you're on a high floor with a nice view. The view was nice and I like being high up so at least that came out of it.

How It Happen:
First time doing the F.D.T., Was very nervous since all the employees are literately 4-5ft away from each other with tilted monitors for the cameras to see. Saw a college looking girl which reassembles Christine Lakin on step by step for some weird reason. Blond hair with streaks and wearing a sparkling stone headband, 5'1"-5'2". Her name is Nicole. Handed the sandwich tip to her and she then placed it on the keyboard. She started typing away and going through my head was, "PLEASE LET THIS WORK FOR A FIRST TIMER"! and low-and-behold she said... "we're full to capacity but I'll see what I can do". After 2 minutes she announced, "we have a bungalow suite available". I accepted! Then she gave me the key cards, explained to me how to get to my room and wished me to have a pleasant stay. I was stunned to find out I had a strip view! Also checked with the player club booth before we left to gamble and dealer comped my poker game for a couple hours. I highly recommend the MGM-grand/"target="_blank">MGM Grand and look for Nicole!

Checked in at 3pm. Did the 20 dollar tip to some girl, I think her name is Nicole or something. She was pretty short compared to me. Asked her if there was any complementary suites available. She didn't notice the tip until she opened the card a bit. She then smiled and gave me the Celebrity Spa Suite and thanked me for the tip. I guess if you look hotter then the employee you get treated better :P

Handed CC and ID with $20 to a girl clerk, Nicole. Asked if any comp suites were available she tapped away for a few minutes and announced that only the Bungalow Suite is available at the moment. I tried asking for the Celebrity or Hollywood Suites but Nicole noted that it'll cost extra per night. I declined and agreed on the Bungalow Suite. I really enjoyed the MGM-grand/"target="_blank">MGM Grand and would go back in a second, great bars, clubs, and restaurants under one roof.

Flight arrived around midnight so it was too late for airport check in. We were booked for a West Wing room. When I got there I tried the $20 trick. The clerk typed away and said something like "oh, I'm sorry but it looks like I can't get you into a standard room, but I can put you into the West Wing at no additional charge." So bottom line, I got the room I had booked but at the lower standard room price.

Got in, slip in $20 between credit card & id, no manager in sight, he must be pretty new since he looks nervous. Told that there's big event, rooms are fully booked, offered upgrade for huge money, instead take the newly renovated queen deluxe w/ strip view.
Oh, got a complementary VIP pass when asked.
