I'd read the reviews on this site, so thought I'd give it a go! We were a party of four (2 rooms booked), so when we got to the desk, I simply told the guy it was our first time in Vegas and what was the chances of a complimentary room upgrade? He gave me a funny look then said nothing! So when he asked for two pieces if ID, I slipped a 20 under the two passports, which was swiftly followed by 'Why thankyou sir, I'll see what I can do!' 2 minutes later we were being upgraded to the tower, at a saving of $30per room, per night! Job's a good 'un!

Worked like a dream! After a small queue for check in a young woman who looked like she was in charge of a few of the other check in people summoned me and my friend over to her counter. When she asked me for my driving licence and credit card and gave them to her with the 20 dollar bill and simply asked in a pleasant manner 'were any complimentary upgrades available'. At first she looked a bit surprised but then she tapped on her computer and upgraded us from a pyramid to a larger tower deluxe room. Worked like a charm and my mate was well impressed with me! Thanks a lot!!!

I asked for an upgrade since it was my wife's and my birthday the following day (yes really). She placed the tip next to her computer screen, went to talk to a supervisor, and upon her return placed us into a new tower room, with a beautiful view of the pyramid and Mandalay Bay.

Upgraded from Pyramid to Tower. She checked with the manager, but he said they could not give me a suite this time. No sweat. Happy to get the Tower room and happy to give the tip. The front desk service was excellent.

did the trick and the guy offered a $20 a night upgrade to a tower luxury suite, which im sure is nice but we dont spend a lot of time in the room anyway and didnt spend a lot of time in the Luxor so i decided to spend the extra money on gambling which is why we were there in the first place. besides the whole point of the trick in my opinion is to try and get the upgrade without having to pay extra. we were not crazy about staying at the Luxor but the deal we got on the room was to good to pass up. since we already had a internet special that might have stopped us from getting a free upgrade. the rodeo and fight in town probably didnt help either.

my sister and her husband were in las vegas for the first time celebrating their anniversary. i wanted to do something nice for them, so i tried the $20 trick. i slipped it between my license and CC. he looked at it and gave it back to me. i pushed it to him and asked him for an upgrade for my relatives celebrating their anniversary. after talking to his boss, he came back saying no. but we can upgrade for $40.00 to the new rooms just opened. I insisted not to pay for it and requested and requested. but, it did not work. he charged us extra anyways.

Arrived at check in around 2pm, long queue waiting to check in but most desks were open and line was moving quickly. Made small talk with pleasant woman on check-in, bit of the old English charm and all that.. passed her my Credit Card with a folded $20 underneath and asked if there was any chance of a room with a good strip view or even a better suite if at all possible. She checked and said all she could offer complimentary was a player suite on the 18th floor of the west tower but it was being cleaned and wouldn't be ready for an hour. She slid the 20 back my way with a wink, gave me the keys and we headed to the bar.
The player suite worked out at an extra $50pn so we did ok.

No Dice For Alex at Luxor...

I've given him a twenty between an ID and credit. It looked to me like he saw it, because he was properly holding both cards. I think he was trying to find something. I was booking two rooms and he told me if he can make anything, it'd be for one room only. I said okay and he left to speak to someone. He came back and said sorry, it was for somebody special or something like this. He passed the twenty back to me. I had a nice room, however, sorry that trick never worked. Will try again next time.

Checked in at 12:30am. After getting in line for a while, checked all the clerks out. Ended up getting a 30ish black lady with a beige suit (Not the normal desk clerk outfit). Put the 20 away at the last minute due to figuring she was a manager. Small talk took place. She asked me how my flight was. I told her today had been a train wreck. We talked for about 5 minutes and finished the transaction. I never asked for an upgrade. She told me I was in the East Tower. She also said I hope the room makes your day a whole lot better. I didn't catch on to it until I walked into a dark room with my wife and couldn't find the light switch. I finally found the light switch on the wall. When I turned it on all I saw was a table, and a couch. My wife said "Where is the bed"???? I continued to explore this awesome room. Whirlpool bath, bar, tv that comes out of an ottoman at the foot of the bed, and a kitchen table. I didn't ask for it, probably don't deserve it, but I will look every time I go by the front desk to give this lady a nice tip!!!
