Jackpot! Robert Got A Las Vegas Hilton Room Upgrade

Booked a special that they had, arrive on Thursday and stay until Monday and get Sunday night free. So I booked the cheapest room($45 on Thurs. and $59 on Fri., Sat.) and arrived late (11:45pm) on Thursday. Only two clerks working. Got the female. Gave her my name and while she looked up my reservation I put the $20 sandwich on the counter and asked her if any comp. upgrades were available. Since I had my kids with me I asked her if she had anything with 3 beds. She said, "well we are booked this weekend but I can give you a bigger room with two beds and a rollaway." I told her that was fine and as she continued to type, I ask her if she had any of the murphy bed rooms, since I knew they were bigger, and then she said that's what I was getting but she continued to type and then came back with the key cards, 4 of them. So we went up to the room and tried two cards, they didn't work but the third one did. Wow this was a room that was the size of two rooms with two murphy beds on one side and dining table, couch, and wet bar on the other and also had another entrance door. So now I was very happy but wondered why the other cards didn't work. So I tried them on the other entrance door, but they didn't work there either. So I looked at the card envelope again and saw that there was another room number on it. This was the room next to the parlor side of the room. So I tried the keys on that door and low and behold I also had the next connecting room which was a standard size room with a king bed. The wife and I had our own room and the kids had theirs for only $20 extra. Plus with the package, I also got a bunch of discount coupons and like others have said, if you don't have them clean the room, you get a $5 food voucher each day. Since I really had two separate rooms, I got $10.

No Dice For Leif at Las Vegas Hilton...

Got in about midnight after a late flight. This room was booked through a casino host as I was able to get my first two nights comped through player reward points.

Tried, but the hotel was booked solid. I figured he was probably BSing me, and continued to try to schmooze him, but then a couple of guys came in and I overheard their conversation with the clerk next to me, where they were told that the Hilton was completely full that night; they got turned away outright. Obviously no room existed to upgrade me to.

I didn't lose my $20 over this, he was nice and I just pocketed the money, but in any case this ended in failure.

Jackpot! Jon Got A Las Vegas Hilton Room Upgrade

Checked in around 3 PM on a very busy Presidents' Day weekend, so I wasn't expecting a huge upgrade, just a modest one. Handed the clerk the sandwich and asked for a complimentary upgrade. She looked very hard for a few minutes and came up with a Superior room on a high floor with a strip view. These rooms are generally $25/night more expensive than the standard, so it is a modest upgrade but still a good value. I've had a 100% success rate at the LV Hilton (at least 5 times, see my other reviews) with this trick, so feel free to try it here.

Jackpot! Jon Got A Las Vegas Hilton Room Upgrade

Checked in about 3 PM on a very slow Sunday. Only 1 clerk working. I smiled, handed her the sandwich and asked for any complimentary upgrades. She seemed very happy and upgraded me to a nice superior room on a high floor. I've gotten better rooms before, but many of the suites were being used by companies for the big CES convention later in the week and I was staying several days. Still, I've never failed to get an upgrade at the LV Hilton.

Checked in about 4 pm and approached the clerk and asked her about possible upgrades and showed the $20.00 sandwich. She said the hotel was full and had no upgrades. As a matter of fact she said all they had were rooms with double beds and smoking rooms. I pocketed the twenty and she typed away. I then asked her how bad the smoking rooms smelled of cigarettes. She said never mind, I found you another room and this one is a room with a refrigerator and a deluxe room. I would have gotten the room without a tip but I gave her $10.00 anyway and thanked her.

Jackpot! Mac Steinway Got A Las Vegas Hilton Room Upgrade

Booked a 3-night stay for Fri/Sat/Sun at $33/night based on players club offer received in the mail. This in itself is quite the bargain at the LVH. Was delayed and as such arrived extremely late on Fri night/Sat morning, approx. 3 AM. Front desk was quiet so rather than do the sandwich, I merely asked the clerk if I could get a complimentary suite upgrade if I were to provide a $20 tip. He advised that they were sold out for the weekend and offered an oversized Grand Room. He apologized for not being able to do better and I had the impression I would have landed a suite if one were available. The Grand Room is certainly larger than the standard room. The clerk claimed the room to be 600 square feet but that may be a bit optimistic. It was in the North Tower, near the "Scenic Elevator" at the far end of the hall, which made trips to and from the parking garage a relatively short distance. The room featured a 37" HD television, couch with coffee table and (2) end tables, refrigerator, very nice bathroom with tile floor, oversized tub and curved rod. Nice view of the mountains. A tremendous value for a 3-day weekend.

Checked in late on a busy Sunday night. I handed the sandwich to the friendly clerk and, after complaining about my travel hassles for the day, asked if they had complimentary upgrades available. We ended up with a very nice suite including bar, dining table, sofa and extra chairs in the North Tower.

I sandwiched a 20 dollar Bill between my Id and CC and gave it to the lady clerk who may have been around 35 to 40 yrs old (asian features) and asked if there was any chance of a complimentary upgrade and she readily said yes and gave me a suite in the north tower on the 20th floor with a strip view. I checked in around 3:30 pm.

Checked in with a nice lady at 5pm. Handed her the 20 with my id, cc and AAA card. She looked up and said "ok what do you want" with a smile :) Asked for an upgrade, she typed for about 5 minutes. She put me up on the 27th floor, away from the elevator, overlooking the golf course in a Grand Room. Good deal!

Jackpot! Pheasant Plucker Got A Las Vegas Hilton Room Upgrade

We arrived with the knowledge that the sandwich worked for a fellow traveler of ours who arrived a day or two earlier. We funded half of his sandwich as an investment so we could guage whether it was worth it for the 3 of us, who had 2 rooms, to fork over a full sandwich per room. At first we were told they were sold out, then when the desk clerk looked up and saw 2 sandwiches laying on the counter top, she quickly and artfully tucked the twenties behind her keyboard and upgraded both of our rooms. Alas, I'm vertically challenged so I did not have the same perspective of the clerk that my 6'3" traveling companion had; he had such an angle that he would have spent $20 (and probably has)for that view alone! Why do the tall get all the breaks? He is the same guy who got confused about what to do with a piece of (alleged) cheese that was on his plate at a steakhouse (it was actually tofu); he was the same guy who couldn't figure out how to use a barstool at the airport (sit on the flat part!); and, he was the same guy who unsuccessfully put $1200 on a foolish parlay: Louisville and the over in the Elite 8. Polly the Insulting Parrot could have done a real number on him this trip. I'll do the sandwich again when I return in October.

No Dice For Larry at Las Vegas Hilton...

Checked in with a $20 sandwich and the clerk knew exactly what to do, no questions... He tried (and I honestly think he thought he was giving me a better room) 28th floor, with a little sitting area-- only problem was it was adjoining another suite and it was LOUD, i could hear every word being said next door-- and they weren't yelling or anything, the door was just very poorly insulating... I went back down and the guy wasn't there any more (argh), I spoke with another agent and explained the problem and she acted like there was nothing she could do, so I slipped her another $20... She was able to secure an updated north tower room for me (I've been in a standard rooms before, and the north tower rooms *are* nicer...)

All and all, I don't think it was worth it-- twice in the past, I've gotten suites here just by asking (no tip at all... )-- So aside from removing the need to ask, I don't think the 20$ trick work and better than being charming here.

Lobby was empty as it was about 9 pm. on a Wednesday night I think there was 2 other guests checking in but they were already being helped. I walked up to the lovely girl behind the counter and gave her the card, license and $20 and asked if there was anyway she could get me into one of the newer rooms with the plasma TV's. She said she'll see what she could do.

Within a few minutes I was walking into a "superior" room with plasma TV, special linens, fridge, safe and nice big bathtub. By the way this isn't the first time this worked, it works almost everywhere.

P.S. To the guy below this post, you are a complete and utter moron. The $20 upgrade worked fine as you described reserving a classic and getting a superior. Yeah your right, its the agents fault you had partying neighbors. Thats a good reason to mark the review as a fail. Moron.

Checked in around 6 PM on Friday of Valentines Day/President's Day Weekend. Line was moderately long, and lobby was pretty busy. Handed the sandwich to the clerk and said, "Looks like you're busy, but if there are any complimentary upgrades available, I'd appreciate it." She started checking and came up with either a Grand Room with a king bed, or a North Tower Suite with a queen Murphy bed. I was a bit skeptical of the Murphy bed, but I took the suite. When I got to the room my skepticism disappeared. The room had a sofa, chairs, desk, small dining/conference table, refrigerator and bar. The Murphy bed, while not as big as the king, was just as comfortable as the regular Hilton beds--meaning super comfortable. Once again, a great upgrade for 3 nights, and I'm now 3-for-3 on upgrades at the Hilton!

Checked in around 3 PM, no line at the counter. Handed the sandwich to the older female clerk, she adeptly pocketed the $20 and started looking for an upgrade. She got us a Grand Room at the very end of the North Tower. As such, the room was larger than similar rooms, and included a sofa and chairs. One positive is that the room was adjacent to the North Tower elevator, which allowed quick access to the north parking garage. The negative is that it was a long walk down the hallway to the casino. However, I'll exchange that for the nice big room. 2-for-2 at the Hilton for me!

Arrived at about 3:30 pm and waited in check-in line for 10 minutes. Got a young girl of Asian heritage and feared she wouldn't be comfortable playing along. She asked for my id first so I gave it to her while I held my charge card where she could see it, wrapped with a $20 bill. I asked if there were any complimentary room upgrades and she typed a little and then went in the back for a couple of minutes. When she returned she said she was giving me a suite in the north tower. She asked for my charge card which I handed her with the 20. She thanked me sweetly and I ended up with a suite with a flat screen tv on the 19th floor for my 5 day stay. So much for my first impression of her at the counter.
