I handed the lady my license and credit card, but had forgotten to slip the $20 bill as well. I pulled it out and put it on the counter and asked if there were any upgrades available. She just glanced at me and then said she would check. She went in the back and came back out, and said she was able to upgrade me. I was tempted to withdraw my hand with the $20 bill in it, but after I signed the paperwork and got my key, I thanked her and gave her the $20. My brother had actually arrived earlier that day and did not think to do it. He hated his room so much that he went down to the lobby and upgraded, which cost him close to $100 for the whole stay. Once he found out that I got upgraded for $20, he went back and complained and got his $100 refunded, so he actually got the upgrade for free. LOL!

I put a $20 between my credit card and license, in case she saw it and was insulted. I planned on saying, "Oh, how did THAT get in there?!?!"
Instead, this girl asked, "Is this for me, sweetie?" I replied, "Of course. Do you have any room upgrades available?" ...then it got good! She said, "Make it $100 and your suite with come with me in the jacuzzi when I get off work."
Being Vegas, I figured - why not gamble this $100? Sure enough, my 2-day trip went from business to pleasure. Thanks FrontDeskTip!

This was a busy, busy weekend as everyone seemed to be getting married. She said that all she could upgrade us to was a deluxe smoking, which wasn't too smoky . Opened balcony to air out and it was fine.
She gave us lots of coupons some for free food and
spa use. Also 2 fun books which we used to eat at th Harrahs buffet and the Rio buffet. I saved over 200
with my coupons from the 20 tip. Well worth it!!!

It was no problem, the woman quickly took the 20 and hid it. She should have been in one of the magic shows. IP's suites come with a tub and mirrors above the bed and the tub.

Very crowded check in on a friday afternoon. The clerk was young and moved a little slow at first, but a supervisor walked by, saw the $20, and told her to hurry up and get us a room. Upgraded from a standard room (reserved on I4vegas), which I'm sure was above the dreaded parking garage, to a nice Love Tub suite overlooking the pool and away from the barely operational elevators. Nice room for a pretty disgusting place, I'd go back!

It was memorial day weekend...which meant it was BUSY.
Either way i reserved a room in the east building of the IP. It costed 89/99/69 for fri sat sun of that weekend...pretty dirt cheap for a bunch of guys there to play poker.
The east building is basically part of their parking structure and is really terrible looking. So I basically upgraded from the crack whore house to the dungeon. Overall however, the room wasn't bad. It was a smoking room, however, the smoke cleared out in a few hours if you just open the window.
The basement room was really really hard to get to. I had to walk through a maze to get to my room. But considering the prices of rooms during that weekend, we probably paid less for 3 nights than a room for 1 night.

No Dice For Mark at Imperial Palace...

Tried this trick for the first time in May 2007. It was the night of the De La Hoya / Mayweather fight, and I was staying for 7 nights. I checked in mid-afternoon on Saturday, and was told the hotel was sold out, which I believe to be true, because attempts to book another room through any website (hotel or otherwise) prior to my trip was unsuccessful. (It said no rooms were available for one or more days during my stay.) Obviously shorter stays and mid-week attempts may prove more successful. I did have a corner room (which was bigger) overlooking the pool. For a no-frills room center strip, you can't beat location or price. It's my first time staying here, and it met my needs, but was nothing spectacular.

SAME AS DESCRIBED IN OTHER POSTS... $20 BETWEEN ID AND CC AND ASKED IF THERE WAS A POSSIBILITY FOR AN UPGRADE. DEFINITELY SUCCESSFUL, BUT I SHOULD HAVE ASKED IF THERE WAS A POSSIBILITY FOR AN UPGRADE TO A SUITE.

Gave the clerk my confirmation info along w/ my credit card. Pulled out my ID w/ a $20 bill behind it. Asked if I could get an upgrade on my room--clerked checked the system and said sure I have a suite available. Handed her the tip money and she declined to take but still upgraded my room. Her name is Genet by the way in case you decide to stay there. It was an expensive weekend (St. Paddy & March Madness) and I paid about $200 for that 1 night. Since she upgraded me to a suite I didn't really feel ripped off. I wanted to stay at Ceasars, but it was in the $400-$500 range.

Clerk refused the tip. I handed the bill between my DL and CC. She did ask if I wanted high up, away from Carnival Court, near elevator, etc., but was not receptive to the $20 trick at all.

I don't think she noticed the $20 before I asked so I may have gotten the upgrade anyway. It's still fun trying! And she seemed appreciative. I'm so happy we got it as well because it was a crowded weekend and our friend's standard room was way out back near the parking garage and not as nice.

We arrived at the hotel at about 2 pm. The first available agent was a middle-aged asian male. He seemed friendly, and when I approached I offered an enthusiastic "hello" and asked how he was doing today. He got my name and began pulling up my reservation, while I fumbled with a $20, trying to slip it behind my ID (I wasn't as prepared as I should have been). I tilted the ID with the $20 towards him and asked if there were any "complimentary upgrades." He didn't even looked at the money, and I don't think he ever saw it. He responded that there were no upgrades, then looked at his computer screen as told me that we were "already upgraded to [their] mini suite." I palmed the $20, and asked if the mini-suite was their Standard Love Tub room (which is what I booked, for $76/night). He confirmed that it was (so, we were not, in fact, upgraded at all). Then I asked if they had any Deluxe Love Tub rooms available (which were $133/night), and he said he'd check. He typed on his computer for a minute and confirmed that there were. He printed out the paperwork, and confirmed the upgraded room type, and the original $76 rate. Then he asked me to sign. I slipped a $10 bill under the paper when I passed it back (maybe a bit cheap, but he didn't see the $20, and he upgraded us without any knowledge of a tip). When he picked up the paper, he saw the $10 and said "for me?" and I nodded and said "yes." He thanked me, and picked it up and pocketed it. We received a very nice room, right near the elevators (though, not so close that we could hear them), overlooking the pool, on the 11th floor. And our room was clean and in very good condition. Having never stayed at the IP, I didn't have very high expectations. But, I was pleasantly surprised and pleased with the Deluxe room we had. I don't think I'd spend $133/night on it, but the $76/night plus the $10 tip was worth it.
My boyfriend originally said he was going to "go to the bathroom" when I tried to get the upgrade. Instead, he hung back and watched from a distance. He seemed kind of embarrassed by it (though, I'm the wheeler and dealer out of the two of us), and doubted that it would work. But, afterwards he was really impressed, and happy that we had just saved about $60/night, and gotten a nicer room.

Slipped a $20 for a room in Imperial Palace and the Lead Clerk originally said no when I asked without the $20. Once I laid it out on the desk, immediately, a suite became available. Scored a suite with a living room.

I'm not sure this really qualifies for the $20 trick but we arrived at the IP at about 11:30 pm on a Saturday night. We were told by a REALLY nice clerk that she had "good news" and "bad news" for us. I asked what the "bad news" was and she replied that they were overbooked and didn't have our requested room available for us. When I asked what the "good news" was, she told me that we were given a complimentary upgrade to the penthouse suite! This room was on the 19th floor that had it's own elevator and was not apparently used for accomodation purposes! It was an entire floor with about 6 different suites - each reserved for the owner of the hotel when he stays there! Our balcony was 50 yards long, overlooking Caesars-palace/"target="_blank">Caesar's Palace. The room had a king size bed, huge bathroom with glass shower, hollywood style vanity, living room with big screen TV, and a separate weight/gym room! We did tip the clerk $50 after she personally accompanied us to our suite, but we received the upgrade without any money at all. It was a great vacation!

Just got back from staying at IP with a casino rate room. I put the 20 under my CC and asked nicely if there were any upgrades available on my room. He wasn't able to offer me a suite, but I got one of the remodeled rooms, a pretty nice view of the strip, and the room was on the end of hallway. Definitely worth it, if not just for the fun of trying.

Did the trick at Imperial Palace on one of the busiest weekend this past week because of the fight. Worked to perfection and got a suite. Wasn't anything special except a jacuzzi in a large room. Although, we did fit 8 people since every hotel was booked or charging $300-$500 a night.
