Went to check in. I immediately noticed the cler's name. It was the same as mine... From that point I knew she would hook us up. She was friendsly and we started small talk. I gave her my ID and the $20. I asked her is she had any upgrades since we were celebrating our engagement. She typed some stuff in and said she had the spa suite if we were interested. Of course we were !!! Nice room, mirrors above the bed and spa!! I think she would have hooked us up tihout the tip, but it was well worth it!

tried the tip trick she looked around manager was standing over her she said no i had booked the deluxe .i asked manager if there was anything he could do about an upgrade he was very rude and obnoxious .and also blatantly lied to me about being over booked .all the dealers and maids told me they were really slow .they put me in the back .i was pretty much the only one in the back section by my self .when i came back to my room i found toilet paper stuffed in the lock .some one wanted to rob me thank god i only stayed there 2 days before going to 4 Queens which was real nice .also they screwed up my bill and it took me 2 months to get my money back .the blonde lady at the desk was real nice and think she could have helped me but the manager was a total lying idiot .he pretty much told me you booked the cheap room you get the cheap room .it was on a monday too .and i previously stayed there in july and the front desk lady even remembered me and told the manager i stay there all the time .she shut up when he said i dont care .i like the place but dont think i will ever go back .

Reserved the Deluxe and did the sandwich. She upgraded before she even realized there was a $20 between it but she may have been thinking she was going to get one. But there was absolutely no problem, I imagine the Thursday helped.

Checked in late at about 11pm. no line. Had booked a standard room from Wednesday - Sunday. Gave the sandwich and asked about a poolside room. She said it would be no problem, and that it is usually $30 extra but it wouldnt be a problem.
Room was attached to the pool deck, great for summer. Had the room comped anyways, figured might as well try it.

Booked through US Air for 2 people but there were 3 in our party. Sandwiched the $20 between the credit card and drivers license and asked if there were any comp rooms available. Got a quiet deluxe room with a nice pool view as well as a rollout bed (normally an extra $30/night) and 3 comp breakfast buffet coupons.

I got upgrade from classic room to 17th floor deluxe room. I asked for a high quiet room in the back, away from the loud music bar in the front, outside Harrah's. I also asked for some free fitness center passes on got 3.

I walked up to the counter and handed her my CC and license w/ $20 in between and asked if there were any complimentary upgrades. She said she would see what she could do. After looking for a few minutes, she said she could give me a Deluxe room, facing the strip, if I didn't mind the loud music. Since my friends and I were in Vegas to party anyway, we didn't mind the loud music. It was easy and I will definately try this trick again.

Checked in gave her the CC and DL and $20 asked if they had any complimentary upgrades. She said no we're full. Looked in the computer for a bit and that was that. Worst hotel I have ever stayed at..... It was the most geriatric hotel I have ever stayed at! Spent our time elsewhere and came back to the room for a few hours a night to sleep....

This is the 3rd time I have tried the $20 trick at the IP and it has failed every time.
Handed over my ID and held the $20 and CC in full view in my hand. Asked if there were any complimentary upgrades and got a brusque "No!". Didn't pursue it.
Won't be trying it at the IP again as there deluxe room is fine for me.

We got there put the $20 between my credit card and Drivers Licence.
She then asked oh whats this? Then asked for a comp. upgrade, and she said do you try this all the time? I said no first time thought I would see if it works, Well just upgrade to a deluxe, so it was nothing special.
I will be back out there in 3 weeks any suggestions on how this could work any better?

We tried the Sandwich-way. The clerk tried to upgrade, but ist was busy. For a short time he left the desk to talk to the deskmanager. After a while he came back and denied the upgrade. He was a nice guy, but we never seen the 20 bugs again. :-(

After staying at the MGM in my suite, the IP was pretty crappy in comparison. I did the $20 move to the girl at the checkin here as well, but she said they were all full and could only upgrade me to Deluxe Room. I therefore took the $20 back. Some of my friends were staying here as well and they got the upgrade and didn't even have to ask. So make sure you ask, cuz they'll probably give you the upgrade for free.

Nice cheap upgrade! They say its a 'recent renovated' room but its not really renovated.... as far as I can tell. I would highly recommend getting a pool side view because there is a balcony and more quiet.

The room was prepaid due to the package I had ordered. After showing the vaction paper work, I handed her my CC and DL with a twenty between them. She asked me what that was for and I asked if any complimentary upgrades were available. She said, I think we can do that.
Having never stayed at the IP, I wasn’t sure when I got to the room if I had been upgraded or not. I seemed to be a more or less standard non-smoking room with a king bed. The room might have been recently renovated, but it was still just a pretty basic room. I guess I would have to say this failed, and I was out the 20 as well.

Tried the trick as is typically described on this site. The clerk said she would she what she had and offered us a strip view deluxe room that was next to the Carnival Court (ie is loud). We declined that and were offered a room that overlooked the pool. This was almost the exact same room I got when I stayed here as part of a package deal with no tip. A suite was never offered.
