The clerk we spoke with was actually the Front Desk Lead. Not sure if this helped or hindered the experience. He offered an upgrade for $50 a night before even taking the credit card and license with the $20 tucked in. He told me there were no complimentary upgrades available, then saw the $20. He told me that he was putting me in a renovated room with a flat screen and a TV in the bathroom. We probably could have gotten this one with or without the $20.

Believe me when I say I tried to go to the young-looking girl, but this old bat waved me over since I was the only one there. I slipped her a $20 between the CC and ID and asked her for a nice room. She said she could give us a great room, but we'd have to have two queens. I figured that would be okay, and the room was pretty nice, older mardi gras tower but great view of the strip. The couple we went with did not slip a $20 and got a crappy view on the 11th floor. It turned out to be a good thing that we had two queens because the couple we went with got into a fight. The girl locked the guy out of their room when she found out he went to a club after she passed out, so he had to sleep in our other queen. I went to the club with him, but my girlfriend didn't care, she trusts me.

On a business trip. Did the sandwich and asked for any possible upgrades. He looked for quite some time and finally said, "I can't find a suite with 2 beds" -- which we needed. He offered a one bedroom suite with a roll out but neither one of us would have wanted the roll out. He did give us a newly remodeled room with a flat screen in the bedroom and bothroom. He gave back the $20 and I replaced it with a $10 for taking the time and for the slight upgrade we did get.

DID NOT WORK. WAS TOLD ONLY UPGRADES CAN BE DONE BY A HOST. THATS THE PROBLEM WITH HARRAHS, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT ROOM U R GETTING.. YOU CANT EVEN CALL AND ASK TO RESERVE A SUITE. THEY DONT SELL THEM. THEY ARE ONLY GIVEN TO PEOPLE THAT ARE HIGH ROLLERS.

Ok first off, I figured since I was staying at Harrah's for an extended period of time (9days) that perhaps they could upgrade me to a room with alittle more space or a view of the lake. I would imagine a $100 tip be more than sufficient, then again I was hesitant once I saw the elderly lady behind the check-in counter. I decided to proceed with the tip between the credit card and ID. I initiated the conversation saying that we are finally happy to get here since they had just got a bunch of snow and that we look forward to spending such a duration with the hotel. I handed over my id, card, and tip package while asking if there were any complimentry upgrades. Before she even looked at my ID, she had already denied me saying oh we are completely sold out to which I replied I understand. She then proceeded to look at the tip and graciously said I hope you did mean to give me this. I agreed and she returned my money.
At the current time, I do not see myself returning to Harrah's hotel in South Lake, I would suggest Harvey's or Mont Bleu over Harrahs. The staff and amenities seem to be run down as if they tried to renovate the hotel but did a poor job on the details.

When I handed the clerk my credit card and $20, he asked me, "What's this for?" I smiled and replied, "That's for you, for checking us into a really nice room." He still seemed a bit puzzled but simply said "Thank You".
We went to our room, which was miles from the front desk. When we opened the door we found a room with two queen beds. We had reserved, and confirmed at check-in, a room with a king bed. We closed the door and went back down to the front desk where there was now a very long line. We stood in line with our baggage, and when we finally met with a clerk I explained the situation, including that I was very surprised that I was given the wrong room by the first clerk, who I had tipped. She quietly explained that it was his third day on the job (which explained why he didn't understand the $20). She then searched and searched for quite some time and reassigned us to a room with a king bed.
When we got to the room we found it to be the smallest room in the hotel. The table and chairs were crushed between the bed and the curtains. There was not enough room at the foot of the bed to walk straight between the bed and the ancient (not antique) entertainment center. We had to scoot sideways! We were also right above the Carnival Court which is loud late into the night.
If they wanted to force us out of the room into the casino, it worked - but not to THEIR casino. We took our money somewhere else. Maybe I should have tipped the second clerk as well?

The person behind the counter couldn't thank me enough and spent about 10 minutes looking. Ended up getting a suite on the 5th floor overlooking the pool and a free fridge. For the other room, they gave a premium room with a good view of the strip. Not too shabby.

we left Thursday night checked in to Harris for just 4 hrs as we drove in late from L.A rate was 49 bux we thought the 20 trick would be no uses, so we didn't even attempt it... but when we chk in the front desk lady asked " is it possible to get you to stay an extra night??? " then i chimed in with well do u have any complementary upgrades... she started tapping away......upgraded to 2 room suite with 2 sinks but no View still SMOKING...needless to say we didn't stay an extra day there because we had reservations at Mirage for FRI SAT... but i would recommend Harris for a Cheap convenient stay...(i didn't give the 20 in this situation because i was never going to do it in the first place..).
