It was a late birthday trip for my girl as she had just turned 22 on Oct 21 and I wanted this to be a special trip. I had already booked our room at the Hard Rock, but did a little research on getting room upgrades and found your site. We arrived in Vegas about 10:30am and decided to go ahead and pre-register. I already had the sandwich ready to go. I went to the first clerk that was available. She was an attractive girl maybe 24yrs old. I chatted her up a bit, telling her about my girl's recent birthday. She asked for my ID and credit card. I handed her the sandwich and asked if there were any complimentry upgrades available. She took the sandwich and without any hesitation said "let me see what we have" She then said she could upgrade us to a deluxe suite with a pool view!...and we were able to check in early rather than wait around till 3p...so awesome. Initially I didn't know if it would work because it was Halloween weekend and there were several big events going on that weekend, one being the UFC fight. All in all had a great time with an incredible room. Will definitely use this technique again!! Thank You!

Jackpot! Russell Got A Hard Rock Room Upgrade

I checked in at around 1PM on a Wednesday and I was staying until Sunday. I did not target anyone in particular but I got a very friendly african american girl. Her name started with an M, but Idon't recall it exactly. I was very direct and walked up and said "is it true you guys cannot accept tips any more?" Her response was that she was new but had never heard that. So I said, quite obviously, "oh excuse me while I turn around" and I reached into my pocket. I intended to pass her a $50 sandwich, but she made it clear that they were EXTREMELY booked for the weekend I was there. I knew that was the truth because there was some music rave in town that was supposed to draw over 200K people. I requested specifically a room with two beds that were in different rooms (angling for a Panorama), She actually went in the back supposedly to ask what she could do, and came back to say the best she could do was a better view because they were so booked. But she was pretty clear about the fact that she would have done the Panorama if it were available. I had both a $50 bill and a $20 ready. I gave her the $20 because it was not much of an upgrade. But it did work and I guess they are still accepting tips at the PH. Good luck!

Jackpot! Jon Got A Hard Rock Room Upgrade

Checked in at 3 PM on a Sunday for 2 nights. Waited in line and got waved over by a managerial-looking lady, so I was a bit worried. Handed her the sandwich, asked for the free upgrade and she said she'd see what she could do. She asked if I'd like a bigger room in the older Casino tower, or something in a newer tower. I asked for the new tower. She gave me one of the best non-suite rooms in the hotel: corner king on the west side of the Paradise Tower, with views of the pool and the strip. That's the 2nd time I've gotten a corner king with the $20 trick at the Hard Rock. Well worth the investment!

No Dice For Jon at Hard Rock...

Booked a room in the newest all-suite HRH tower for a very busy weekend in Vegas (St. Patrick's day, college spring break, first weekend of March Madness). Checked in around 4 PM on Friday. Handed the clerk the sandwich and asked for any complimentary upgrades. Clerk searched pretty hard but couldn't come up with much. She did offer a suite in the Casino Tower, but the standard HRH rooms are nicer, so I stuck with what I had. Clerk kept the $20. This has worked before for me in the Casino and Paradise towers, but in the HRH tower there just isn't much you can get upgraded to, especially on a busy weekend. Still had a great room though!

Jackpot! Jonathan Got A Hard Rock Room Upgrade

There was a line when checking in around 1pm. There were about 4 or 5 clerks at the time. We waited and got called up to the first available clerk. They had one main line for everyone so you don't really pick which clerk to stand in line for. Just went up to the clerk with the sandwich handed it to her said I had a reservation and asked if there were any complimentary upgrades available. She took the 20 bill and placed it to the side of the keyboard and went to work. It wasn't a huge upgrade but we did get it for 3 nights so it wasn't that big of an expense. The other view we would have had would have been rooftop. Since we were staying 3 night at first she said she wouldn't be able to upgrade us for all 3 but then we said it would be a pain to have to move and she kept checking and then was able to get us the upgraded room.

The other option she gave us would have been on the 10th (of 11) floor but didn't have one ready that was the king bed we were looking for. Instead it was a 2 queen room. Having the 5th room floor that we had gave us a closer view of the pool but being up higher would have given us a better view of all three pools instead of just the one we could see on our side. Partial view of the strip also on that side of the hotel.

Jackpot! Ryan Got A Hard Rock Room Upgrade

Came in early and was worried about being able to check in (existing check in time was around 3PM). Slipped the $20 bill in between my ID and credit card to the man behind the desk at about 11AM and asked him if there was anything he could do to help us out. He immediately found a corner room (nearly 100 sq. ft. larger) on the top floor and asked no questions. Definitely saved us some anxiety.

Checked in around 4 PM on Sunday for 3 nights. Went to first available clerk. Handed clerk the sandwich and asked for any complimentary upgrades. She swiftly pocketed the money and worked at getting me an upgrade. She came up with a corner room (windows on the south and east sides of the room with views of the pool and mountains) on the top floor of the paradise tower. Not a huge upgrade, but definitely worth the $20, as pool view rooms are at least $20 more per night. The trick works again!

No Dice For Barbara at Hard Rock...

I checked into the new Tower Suites at Hard Rock hotel, and there were two agents working. The Suites just opened Dec. 28th and have a private check-in area. A reservation agent on the phone had told me they were all the same, but differed according to view. I sandwiched her $20 and asked for any complimentary upgrades available. Got a higher floor and a pool view room (but the pool was under construction so nothing to look at). I think she could have offered a corner room or something nicer, so not sure I got much for the money. She did put us on the guest list for the club at my request, but then they ended up scheduling a private party for the night we were on the list. I also sandwiched at two other hotels the same week (Bellagio and TI) and only got higher floors and excellent views--not a suite or room with any special features. Oh, and the rooms were immediately ready, so that was nice.

I just went up to the clerk the called me over, about 30, female, looked like a supervisor most likely. I checked in around noon, she asked for driver's license and cc card, I slipped all three objects to her, she didn't flinch, put the 20 to the side and I asked if there were any upgrades available, she said sure, I could get you into a pool view room in the paradise tower, there was a low floor room ready, but she asked if I wanted to wait an hour for the 11th floor. I did, decent turnout, not that great of a view because of the construction, but hey it's 20 bucks.

No Dice For Heidi at Hard Rock...

Checked in on Saturday evening around 6pm- got a nice youger male clerk who we chatted with about Ohio football, I thought we were going to get an upgrade but he handed the $20 bill back and said he didn't have anything- he said we could try back the next day. NO DICE...not only did we not get an upgrade, our room had the absolute WORST view I have ever had from any hotel anywhere. Seriously, it was a concrete parking garage with a row of cars practically within arms reach. Eeeek, That was the beginning of the bad luck that I had on this trip. They did move us to a higher floor the next afternoon, soooo much better. NEVER stay lower than the 8th-9th floor in the new Paradise Tower at The Hardrock.

I tried the trick with two people working the one check-in station so I was a bit nervous. I assumed one of them was being trained. The lady who checked me in (and who I gave the tip to) upgraded me to the suite while the other lady just watched. I couldn't hear if the trainer explained the tip when I left the counter.

Checked in about 8 PM on a Friday night. Slipped $20 between ID and credit card, and asked for "complimentary upgrade." Clerk checked for upgrade and gave it to me. I'm not even sure she saw the $20, as she later said "Aw, you didn't have to do that." Still, I was happy to spend the money, as the room was very nice, with living room, couch, fully stocked mini-bar and great view of pool and strip. This was a pretty slow weekend in Vegas (2 weekends before Christmas), so not sure if this will work all the time, but I was certainly happy.

Jackpot! Carcando Got A Hard Rock Room Upgrade

Was very hopeful for an upgrade as I would be there for 7 nights, and was doubtful because my stay included all of Labor Day weekend at the Party Central hotel with tons of people reserving rooms just so they can get into the famed Rehab party on Sunday. Picked out the only male clerk who turned out to be concierge helping out at front desk. Put a quartered $50 between my passport and credit card. He put the $50 to the side and immediately said something like "I see you've booked a King mountain view, let's see if we can upgrade that." Took him about 30 seconds to offer me the pool view. Then the interesting part. He handed back the $50 and said "excuse me, you accidentally left this with your passport." I waved it back to him and said it was for him. According to their website rates, which is what I was paying, the retail value of the upgrade from Mountain View to Pool View for this period of time totaled approximately $1100. For those who don't understand, the Hard Rock pool is perhaps the single greatest people watching venue in the world, especially on weekends, and especially Sundays on holiday weekends when people line up literally for blocks to try to get in to the party. Similar to nightclubs, the groups of girls with the smallest bikinis stood the best chances of getting in. Was also overlooking several evening concerts at the pool. The Mountain View rooms on the other hand overlook a parking lot and some strip malls across the street, and probably some jets landing at McCarron. I probably could have gotten away with a $20, but really wanted the upgrade.

We arrived at about 6pm and there was only one man at the desk. I approached in a friendly manner and started building rapport. After a minute or two of fun chat he asked for my ID and credit card which I produced with a $50 bill folded and sandwiched neatly, but visibly, between. As I passed these to him I asked "Do you have any fabulous upgrades for us tonight?" He laughed and in about one minute of checking he offered us a nice Executive Suite for the full 4 day weekend stay! Woot!
