Desk clerk was efficient, took the $20 and whispered that he would see what he could do. Spend about five minutes looking, and told me they were all booked up and the couldn't find anything better for me. Returned the $20 with my room key. It's okay...he tried.

North Tower rooms are closer to the casino than the South Tower rooms. The rooms are bigger and comes with a 42" Plasma TV and goose down pillows and comforters! Way more than 20 bucks worth, and a Royal Flush on top of that!

We were booked for South Tower, 3 nights with a buy 2, get 3rd night free promo. Checked in early about 11:30 AM. I slipped her the $20 in the license/credit card sandwich and politely asked if any complimentary upgrades were available. We got upgraded to a North Tower with not much of a view but we didn't care. Nice room, the Nugget rules.

Stayed 3 nights total with 2 rooms connected. Thought it be better to give $40 instead of regular $20 since of 2 rooms. Young lady said they were pretty much booked, but asked if we wait for her to call upstairs. 5-10 mins of wait, but she got us the upgrade!

We thought we'd DOUBLE the trick to 40 to ensure an upgrade! We had at check in three people, and thought we might be able to score a room or suite with just a little more space. No such luck. Trick was presented correctly, but she just said "sorry we're booked up, and the only other thing we have is luxury suites [or something to that effect] and we don't comp those." So we got a standard South Tower room. We retained the 40 bucks, and she seemed pretty unhappy about that, but so it goes.

I checked in about 8:30 PM and stepped up with $20 sandwich and asked if there were any complimentary upgrades available for our anniversary. Clerk chuckled and said that they were really cracking down. He said three nights was too long, so I told him we could move after the second night. The third day we went down and received a smaller upgrade to North Tower King room with pool view. I have the feeling that a larger tip would have landed all 3 nights.

Asked the lady if they were busy, she said "yes" then handed my license and credit card with $20 and said "There wouldn't be a chance of a complimentary upgrade, possibly the North Tower"? She checked and found a room in the North Tower and explained to us that it was designed for wheel chair access and we said ok. The Clerk next to her stated he had just gave that block out. She looked some more and asked if we would like to stay in one of the Spa Suites but it would be just for the night. I said yes immediately and left the twenty close to her, she asked if I wanted change and I told her that it was for her help. She was very nice. The next day at checkout/checkin i tried it on an older white lady. She said sorry nothing was available.

Worked like a charm. I am three for three at the Golden Nugget. Upon Check-in, I asked if there were any complimentary upgrades to the North Tower (nicer rooms). She checked a second, noticing the $20 sitting next to my Ccard a DL. Upgraded me to an end room which is larger than mid-hall rooms. She did not reach for the $20, I had to hand it to her and she thanked me profusely. Totally comfortable transaction.

I did not expect to get upgraded to a suite since I've never stayed there and it was the beginning of March Madness. The front desk clerk was able to put us in the North Tower with extra room keys and a roll away bed at no charge. I wasn't expecting anything since they were almost at capacity, but it turned into a nice stay there.
bonus: we got all the drink tickets we wanted at the sports book without having to barter or do anything other than simply ask for them. Typically its one ticket for every $100 bet.

Husband checked us in around 8pm and asked for the complimentary upgrade. The kid quickly pocketed the 30 dollars, didn't say anything and just gave him the keys. When we got up to the room, we could see it had 2 separate doors and said "suite" on the outside - we were psyched to see two rooms, two baths, Bose stereos, bar and comfy upgraded down bedding, feather bed on a king mattress, chocolates and the whole nine yards. Since my company paid for the room itself, the upgrade was a screaming deal! Awesome! Nice hotel and friendly staff.

Put the twenty with CC and DL. Asked if any upgrades where available. She said "No, we are packed". I left the $20 lay on the counter. She typed and typed and got our key ready. I picked up the twenty as I reached for our key. She said, "Sir, I was able to get you an upgrade". I thanked her, gave her the $20. My wife didn't believe it until we opened our room door. What a trip and what a hotel.
