Jackpot! K Got A Flamingo Room Upgrade

Checked in on 9/16, which was a sold out night. Did the $20.00 thing, and asked the clerk for a complimentary upgrade or a strip view as we were already assigned a pool view. She smiled, typed a bit, and found a strip view. She carefully explained that it was in a construction zone, and was prone to noise. Due to the sold out night, it was the best she could do. I declined that room because of the construction noise (we are usually up all night and sleep during the day). In an effort to make it up to us, she gave us plenty of good coupons for Harrah's properties, a special Flamingo CD, and alot of other goodies which equaled more than the $20. I felt like she made an excellent effort, and was not at all disappointed with the pool view that we chose.

Did the trick as per instructions. Said "we'd really like a Go room" was told they don't do comp upgrades to Go rooms (which kinda seems weird considering others on this site have managed to get them - it may have been that he was training someone). He had a chat with the manager and came up with a Mini Suite overlooking pool which is normally an extra $60 a night. I'm happy with that!

Got to desk a little before 3. Not much of a line. Took first available clerk. Gave her the sandwich and asked if there was a complimentary upgrade available. She asked what I wanted and she would check. I told her it was my first time in Las Vegas and what could she do for me. Got room on top floor across from Caesars. Could look down on volleyball and see Bellagio fountains to left and Mirage volcano to right. Would make a more specific request next time. She said would normally be $40 more and we stayed 4 nights so it was worth it.

How it Happened: Handed cc and id with $20 in each set so $40 in all, she saw the $20's and knew straight away what the crack was. she tapped away pocketed the money then said that you can have the top floor but they are working on the rooms the floor below round the clock and we might hear them working so she suggested floor 17, i just said ok 17th floor was high enough. but that bloody Toni Braxton window poster is a pain in the rear. the GO rooms are lovely the TV in the bathroom is a nice touch and the pink soft down lighting is a nice affect. the cd player in the room is really loud and surprisingly you couldnt hear it much when i went next door to my moms room. and the plama TV was great the carpet though was still the same stuff as last year, mabe they hadnt done the teh pets yet in the rooms as the hallways were all GO'd up with new jazzy carpet.

Was given the same warning about work, but was advised that it wasn't too bad. Took them up on the offer. Top floor, great view of the pool area. Quiet all week, didn't hear any construction. Room looking a little tired, ready to be refreshed a little. Staying for 5 nights

We arrived at the Flamingo lobby around 10:30 AM and the check in line was very very long.
The word to everyone was the rooms would not be ready until 2PM due to getting all the rooms cleaned due to high turnover on sunday.
We figured theres no way the $20 trick was going to work but what the hell give it a shot!
We stepped up to the counter and were greeted by a conservative looking women in her late 30's. I asked right away ater sliding her my credit card and license with $20 tucked between if she thought it might be possible for a comp upgrade. She smiled and said how about an executive suite on the top 28th floor with a coffee maker and two double beds? I happily agreed and what a view!Waking up every morning looking out at the strip with view of Caesars-palace/"target="_blank">Ceasers and the Bellagio.Next time i'm going to shoot for a go room, although i believe they do not overlook the strip which is quite the experiance.

I tried to follow the Fat Wallet instructions perfectly. I put the $20 between my credit card and license. I asked the agent if she "could get us a nice view or upgrade". She smiled and put the $20 on the counter between us in plain sight. She offered me a strip view room on the 12th floor, or said I could upgrade to a Go room for $25/night more. I said the standard room was fine (and it was). When check-in was over, she took the $20, but gave me ample time to take it back if I chose to.
So basically, I'm really not sure I got anything more than if I simply asked nicely. The $20 turned into a tip, when I really wanted it to be a bribe!

I put a $20 between my cc and drivers license and asked about upgrades. He put everything on the desk and said he could upgrade us to a Go room for $25/night instead of the typical $50. I tried to push him a little but relented and agreed to pay for the upgrade. He still pocketed the money. The room was nice, on the 25th floor, and had a good view of the fountains. I'm not sure if the 25/night was a 'deal' I got by tipping but I don't think it was.

Clerk said that a GO room was available, but she couldn't let me have it without an extra $25/night. This was significantly cheaper than the rate for booking a GO room originally, but I declined the upgrade and kept the $20.

Checked in with a youngish female who was wearing a different uniform than the other clerks, so she may have been a manager. Chatted a bit and handed her the $20 sandwich. I said we'd appreciate anything she could do for us as far as an upgrade goes. She gave us a room on the 10th floor, strip view facing Caesars-palace/"target="_blank">Caesar's Palace, with a view of the Bellagio fountains as well. Said she could give us a higher floor, but they were doing a lot of construction on the upper floors, and we may hear some noise in the mornings. She thanked us for the tip and we were on our way.

I arrived at Flamingo early on a Tuesday morning but they were very busy. I was comped for the 3 nights we were staying, so I wasn't sure how that was going to play into the upgrade. I didn't see one person I thought would go for it, but I wasn't backing down from a challenge. I tried to be as friendly as possible and told the clerk I had heard nice things about the GO Room and wondered if there were any upgrades available. She said it was normally $50/night in the better tower, but she would give it to us for $25/night. We accepted and I didn't give her the $20.

Arrived before the regular check in time so see of room was ready. Asked clerk if there were any "upgrades" available, as I passed him a $20 with my ID. He did some stuff on the computer, made a phone call and gave me my key. The room was executive suite on the top floor. Very nice room, almost twice the size of a normal room. Very well worth the tip!!!!

Checked into airport desk. slid 20 - upgraded to exec. suite. - no differance than a regular room - just had added couch. My recommendation - ask for a "go room" instead - Apon check out at hotel - male clerk told me that airport clerk made a mistake and should not have upgraded and he was going to have to charge me the differance. I told him she did it for our "anniversary" and there is no way he is charging me after the fact. - he said she is not allow to do that. Is he just pissed off he didn't get any of the "tip"???

Firstly I stumbled onto this site, GREAT TIPS! Our first try. Didn't expect anything since hotel was sold out per website. Obviously 7-07-07 has significance in Vegas! Put the cards on the counter with the $20 visable. She didn't even bat an eye, started typing away. We arrived at 2:00 and used airport checkin, there was no line. She put us on the 27th floor, excutive room. I was hoping for a Go room or suite but considering there was no vacancy, I'm happy for our first attempt. Can't wait to try it again.

I APPLIED THE $20 BETWEEN THE CREDIT CARD AND DRIVERS LICENSE. I WAS CHECKING INTO THE hotel AT AROUND 9PM. I ASKED THE CLERK FOR A POSSIBLE UPGRAGDE IN HOPES OF A WINDOW VIEW, AND HIGHER FLOOR. SHE TOLD ME SHE WOULD CHECK, SHE QUICKLY RESPONDED WITH AN UPGRADE TO AN EXECUTIVE ROOM WITH THE VIEW OF THE STRIP, Caesars-palace/"target="_blank">Ceasers FOUNTAINS WERE RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET ( GREAT VIEW) HAD IT BEEN 30 YEARS AGO I WOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SEE EVIL KENIVEL JUMP THE FOUNTAINS FROM MY ROOM WITH NO HASSLE. ( THERE WAS ONE SLIGHT PROBLEM AS WHEN I GOT IN THE ROOM , WE REALIZED THE BATHROOM WAS NOT OPERATING PROPERLY) I SIMPLY ASKED FOR THE SAME TYPE ROOM AND THE CLERK PUT ME IN A ROOM ON THE 11TH FLOOR WITH THE SAME VIEW. I WAS VERY SATISFIED..

There was a moderate line at check-in, decided to sign up for total rewards to get a "shorter line"; by the time i got back, the line was just as long. I just knew it wasn't my day. Slipped the twenty between the ID and CC, the twenty fell out and I pounced to ask for an upgrade.... that will be $40 extra for the GO room (remodeled with plasma), she had the cheek to say she was giving me a discount from $50. I then just asked to be put in a room with the Bellagio Fountain View. To my dismay when I arrived at the room, she put me at the right corner but the view was blocked by the BillsLasVegas Casino (you would think 15 floor up would be good enough with Bill's being only like 3 stories high). In any case, a disappointing use of $20.
A couple of tidbits with regards to some discount promos:
1. If you want to sign up for total rewards, you might want to sign up at Paris, they were offering a free eiffel tower ride.
2. the Flamingo gives you a couple of hurrah's coupons upon checkin - $5offbuffet, $20offGeorge Wallace etc.

First, thanks very much for your site. Reserved a 4-night stay Sat-Tues. Checked in approx. 5.00 PM. Did the $20 sandwich and told her I was hoping she may have something in a complimentary upgrade. She took the D/L and CC and placed them on her keyboard. She unfolded the $20 and placed it right on top of the counter and said she would see what she could do. She did some checking and told me that a comp upgrade for 4 nights was difficult because of sold out dates during my stay. She offered "Go Room" for a fee. Told her we were just interested in a comp upgrade and mentioned that we were celebrating. (Celebrating a free upgrade, hopefully.) She did some more checking and offered a Deluxe Suite for Sat night but I would have to swicth to a standard ("deluxe") room for the other 3 nights. I asked if the suite was nice. She said we would be pleased. She said that a number of these particular suites are held by casino ops for high rollers w/o reservations and she needed to get permission to put me in there. As it was late in the day, the number of unexpected high rollers was dwindling and she believed she could get an OK. She went in the back and came out with the good news. We were on the 27th floor (28 is the highest floor) with a huge living room. Floor to ceiling windows, an L-shaped couch that would seat 6 people, huge coffee table with 2 additional easy chairs and very large screen TV. Also had a small dining table with 3 chairs, huge granite wet bar with refrig, separate icemaker, and 3 bar stools, 2 bathrooms (one had a large fully tiled stall shower with a built-in seat; the other a large jacuzzi tub. We had to move for the rest of the trip but the one night was so worth $20 I would do it again in a heartbeat. BTW, Flamingo "Go Pool" was a blast; great people, tasty cocktails, sun, water, oh, and those topless free spirited ladies. I can't wait to go back. Thanks again - You guys Rock !!
