Jackpot! Got A Flamingo Room Upgrade

Booked through US Air vacations (never will I do that again) Booked the standard room and asked about upgrades (w/ the $50.00 clearly showing) According to the clerk, she couldn't just upgrade up w/ out charging, so she went to the back & came back & said "I can give you a Go Lux. w/ a strip view w/ a perfect view of the fountains.
We took it...was it worth it? I think so, but the Go Rooms are already looking a bit tired already....

We booked a room using the discount code from SmarterVegas for $55/night. (I highly recomend this site. It saved us a ot of money)I gave the clerk the $20 sandwhich and asked about a complementary upgrade. We said he had to check in the back office where we saw him pocket the $20 as the door closed. He came back a few minutes later and told us we'd be very happy with our room. The room was huge with a full living room overlooking the pools.

We were contacted by the hotel via email and offered an upgrade for an additional $40 per night. Instead tried asking politely at check-in and included 20 with my credit card. We were upgraded to a small but very nice and newly remodeled GO room for our 3-night stay.

No Dice For Robin at Flamingo...

Checked in about 1:00. The first clerk available was a older female clerk with glasses. I slipped a folded $20 between my I.D. and credit card and ask for any upgrades they had available. I explained my husband and I were celebrating our 30th anniversary and it was our first time to Vegas. She smiled, took my money, and said she would take care of me but my room wouldn't be available until 4:00. When we entered our room we found one double bed (I had requested two), dirty carpet, air conditiner did not work, and furniture that belonged in a Goodwill store. I immediately called the desk and was placed in a different wing. This room was still a standard room near the pool but was nicer. (The impression I got was this was the original room we were going to be placed in before I asked for an upgrade.)

Jackpot! Philip Got A Flamingo Room Upgrade

Checked in around Noon. Gave clerk DL, CC and a $20. Didn't even ask for a complimentary upgrade. She laid the $20 aside and said she had an Executive Suite available for the same price (room was already comped). Executive Suite was basically a larger room on a higher floor, but not GO style. I was happy enough.

Checked in around 3pm. The reservation was for comped rooms, so wasn't sure if the $20 tip would work. Agent was a young female, probably around 25. After looking around a bit she found us an executive suite on 28th floor overlooking pool/garden. She said the normal upgrade to that room was $40 per night. It was a little larger than the deluxe room and had coffee maker.

Jackpot! Justin Kreddible Got A Flamingo Room Upgrade

Arrived, grabbed a cab (no line for once) and were at the Flamingo by 11am. No line at the Total Rewards line and I slithered right up to the desk. Here goes my first attempt at the ‘$20 dollar trick’. I gave the woman the sandwich and she noticed the $20 right away. She said there were no rooms ready for check in as it was early but depending on what she put us in, it should be ready by 2pm. She checked a few things and stated she could offer me the Executive Suite. She gave me all these reasons why it was an upgrade and that it Bills for $40 more a night. Sure, why not, not a Go room but I didn’t really expect that anyway. The room was bigger than a regular room and it overlooked the gardens/pool area so it worked.

No Dice For Jeff at Flamingo...

Wife and I checked in around 4 pm. Used the Rewards Gold line--no wait. After giving him my last name, I laid the sandwich down and asked if there were any complimentary upgrades to perhaps a Go room or luxury suite. After a few seconds, he took it and laid it on his workspace in front of his keyboard. After looking at his monitor for what seemed like 2 minutes and barely saying a word, he said that he could put us in a Go room for an extra $40 per night. We declined and he gave us the $20 back. I got the impression that he tried to find us a free upgrade, but that it wasn't feasible. I'd try it again. My friend and his wife checked in at the same time, next agent over--no luck either.

Jackpot! Hykes Got A Flamingo Room Upgrade

This was my first time trying this after reading a lot about it. Checked in around 5pm and wasn't expecting anything really since it was NASCAR weekend, checked in at the total rewards gold desk, which was nice as we avoided a really long line. Had a very friendly lady and asked if there were any complimentary upgrades while giving her the money between the id and credit card, she put the $20 on the counter in front of her and did some typing, then she went to check with a manager and came back with some good news. The room was on the 27th floor, second from the top and was huge with a few extra amenities such as a coffee maker, extra toiletries and daily newspaper. We had the pool view and were also located near the elevators for quick access. It was definitley worth the $20 and can't wait to try it again!

Jackpot! DLee Got A Flamingo Room Upgrade

Went in Feb. of 08. Got comped for two nights for $80. Saturday-Sunday night. Did the $20 card trick. Wasn't sure it worked because she didn't say anything and said she would get us a great room view. As I was taking the elevator up to the room, I felt ripped off.

Once I arrived, the view of Ceasars was great. That extra $20 was worth it. Huge window for our view and at night, looked magical.

Going again in Sept 08 and will try the $20 again.

Jackpot! D Got A Flamingo Room Upgrade

check in line was long, so we had to wait a while and coulnd't choose who helped us. We politely asked for a complimentary upgrade, and she explained that none were available and slid the $20 back to us. We left it on the counter and kept talking to her...she recommended we upgrade to a GO room, and we explained that we had already upgraded to a GO room and simply wanted a better view. She said she didn't think she could help us, but would call and check. A few minutes later she hung up the phone and told us she had found a room that we "might" be able to see the fountains from. Our room was on the 26th floor and had an AWESOME view of the fountains, Paris and Bally's.

No Dice For Nicki at Flamingo...

Unfortunately it did not work for us. We got to the Flamingo at about 5PM on a Tuesday. After looking at all the counter agents we were hoping to get the young man on the end. Surprisingly we did. I told him I had a Go Room, but was hoping for one with a great view. I passed the sandwich onto the counter. He said I'm sure it will have a great view, but all the Go Rooms are pre-assigned. Needless to say I took back the twenty and just gave him my license and credit card. The room was on the 21st floor and faced the pool area, so it wasn't a bad view, it just didn't face the strip, which is what I had wanted. Just to add info - The Go Rooms are great and a lot of fun. Worth a few bucks more.
