Jackpot! Cindy Got A Flamingo Room Upgrade

Arrived on a Friday at around 10:30 AM. Moderate line-up at check-in. We approached male mid-age clerk who did not appear at first to be overly friendly. I had coached my hubby prior to arrival and we were both a bit nervous as this was our first time trying this whole thing. When asked for our ID, my husband handed over the "sandwich" and asked if any complimentary upgrades were available. The clerk smiled, nervously laughed and became quite tongue-tied. He tried to explain that the "Go" rooms could not be upgraded unless we wanted to spend an extra $30/night. When we declined this option, he began typing on his keyboard and said that he had an executive suite available on the 27th floor overlooking the pool which normally costs $40 extra/night which we could have complimentary. We took it (though in hind-site, maybe should have asked for strip view or "mini-suite" as well). The room was standard 2-3 star "Holiday Inn" quality. Clean but dated nad bed was comfortable enough. However, the main areas of hotel appeared old AND dirty ... definitely needs total renovation. Now that we're more confident with this trick, we'll probably try it at the Paris or one of the other 4 star hotels that we are more accustomed to staying in.

No Dice For James W. at Flamingo...

|
Showed up at 1:30 on a Friday afternoon to a half full check-in line. The clerk we got was an early 20's female with braces.
I handed her the sandwich and she laid the $20 out on her keyboard. Asked if there were any room upgrades available and she looked in to her database. We were booked for a King Room Deluxe, and were offered an upgrade to an Executive Suite with 2 queens. Asked for a King Executive Suite with a strip view and she mentioned that there wouldn't be one available until 4 P.M.
As I had a friend with a hotel room already set up, I wanted to wait; however my fiancee didn't have any interest in waiting so we took our Pool View King Deluxe room. I suppose it technically didn't fail as much as we were just too early checking in, nonetheless I feel I could have approached it better (Felt I was a bit too pushy).
Oh well, better luck next time!

clerk automatically returned the twenty saying he could not do anything tonight, was more concerned about getting rid of me.Room was on the fourth floor or as I called it the spring break floor.
Didnt sleep that night went down and complained and was given an identical room on the 22 floor, I have stayed there before and the hotel has lost its luster, no one seems to clean or care about cleaning. The staff stunk and wont stay there again.

Nicely gave the sandwich to the lady (about 40) at the counter and asked about the possibility of getting a free upgrade. She immediately saw the money, returned it, and said that "we don't do that here". OK, no worries, but strange... if this site and the results here are true?

I was coming to Vegas during a prime week for Spring Breakers so I wasn't expecting this to work. After waiting about 30 minutes in the check-in line, I walked up to the desk and gave the lady the sandwich. She smiled and asked what she could do for me. She gave me the option for the same room with a view of the strip or an Executive suite. I opted for that. Not only did I get that, she gave me one with an excellent view of the pool side of the resort. I was not given the option for the GO rooms as she had no choice but to charge for the upgrade since it was a busy week. Overall... Successful and very satisfed!

The sandwich worked great! I handed the clerk my credit card/$20 bill/driver's license sandwich and told her that I would appreciate a free room upgrade. I pointed out that a mini suite or executive suite would be great if it was possible. She indicated that she had a room in mind but she had to speak with her manager. After leaving her area to speak with her manager she returned and said we could have the room. We stayed in room 28106 overlooking the strip directly across from Caesars-palace/"target="_blank">Caesar's Palace. We had a wonderful view of the fountains at Bellagio as well.

Had reserved a regular base room through Expedia. When I approached the Check In Desk I inquired about an upgraded room or at least a decent view & slipped her the $20. She said that the "Go Rooms" were sold out for the week but that she'd move us from a lower floor to the 27th. Great view of Ceasars as well as the Bellagio & fountains. Money well spent for the excellent view!

At first she stated that they didn't have any rooms available, but she continued to go talk to the supervisor. She got us in a bigger room, but the next day when we were taking showers and getting ready for our first day in Vegas, our shower curtain had mold all over it on the inside. We went down to the check in desk and spoke to a manager and he put us in a king go room for our last two night there. The room was GREAT!!!! 3 total TV's in our room, with one of the TV's in the bathroom mirror. This was our first trip to Vegas and we had a blast, it was a girls get-a-way weekend!!!!

Got to the long check in line about Noon on Saturday. Took about 20 minutes to get to the check in desk. I asked the mid thirtyish lady to check for a mini suite or executive suite for us, please. She set the $20 along side her keyboard and said we must have stayed here before, as most people don't call them executive suites (that's what they're called on their website), so I said that yes, we have stayed there a few times. She checked us into room 28119, on the top floor. It was a little larger than a standard room, with a small couch, chair, and coffee table, along with a comfortable king size bed. The room was clean enough, except for the carpet, but was showing it's age. However, who can complain if it's comped?

Had booked a 3 night complimentary basic room on NYE after getting half-price air on Southwest. Checked-in about 3:30, presented my sandwich and said I hoped there was a really nice room with my name on it. Didn't use the complimentary upgrade phrase since my stay was already free. Mini-suite was plenty of room for one person. Only the 5th floor but lovely view of the garden.

We saw this site 3 days before we were to arrive in Vegas. I figured what the Hell. Got a nice girl about 30-35 years old. After making a couple of pleasantries I handed her the sandwich and I still don't know where it went but it was gone like a magic trick. I politely asked if there was any upgrades and she said she'd see what she could do. A couple of clicks and she said she knew we'd enjoy this room. We got upgraded from a double standard room to a Junior Suite with a king size bed in a separate bedroom. Living area with a couch and chairs. Strip view and a view of the Bellagio. Worked like a charm and the best 20.00 we spent on the trip. Thanks to this site for the tip and I highly recommend trying this, it's worth it if it works. Thanx again

Checked in about 4pm with huge line, gave Lady the sandwich and asked for compimentary upgrade, she moved us to a strip view room on 12th floor, then i mentioned I heard the rooms on the top floors were nice and she said she could get me one but not with a strip view. We wanted the coffee maker and heard the rooms were a little larger up there...I mentioned we would see lots of the strip walking around and my wife would love the coffee. she gave us a garden view on the top (28th) floor...it was a quarter mile from the parking garage, but close to the elevator and a very nice room...worth the extra $20

Checked in at the Diamond/Platinum desk. I booked a Standard Room that was comp'd. I asked about a free upgrade and was offered the Junior Suite. I was told it was a ways away from the elevator, but accepted. She did not see the $20 until after the fact (she had to ask me for my ID & Credit Card that were in the stack with the $20 and my Total Rewards card). She thanked me for the tip and grabbed me a couple of bottles of water.
A couple in their mid-40's were checking in just ahead of me with another rep and were only offered the GO room upgrade for a fee of $30/night.

No Dice For Big little roller at Flamingo...
|
|
| |
|
Got to the hotel around 10:30am. We figured that the hotel would be pretty empty (we flew in right after a 'HUGE' 2-3 snow storm hit Vegas (but it was melted by the time we touched down for the most part). Had an older lady check us in. Made the mistake of asking about any complimentary upgrades before she took my sandwich (but she saw the money). She offered us an upgrade to a GO room for 65 a night. We decided to take the standard room. Had a view of the pool area which was alright. 2 guys there for about 48 hours didn't really need a view. Just trying it for the first time so my g/f didn't freak out.
