It was about 8PM when I arrived and the Front Desk was empty. A young lady in her early 20's helped me and mentioned you just started her work day. We exchanged some small talk and she asked me for my name and a credit card and license. I then asked if she wouldn't mind checking to see if she had any complimentary room upgrades and she said she would check. She said she could give me a Panoramic suite with a great view of the Strip and I said that sounds perfect. The room was AMAZING and it would have cost me at least $40 more per night when I originally booked my room so this was a great deal for me! Thanks for the tip. I'm going back in 2 weeks to the Paris hotel and I will try it there too!

We decided to try the tip sandwich when we were checking in. It was pretty dead at the registration, and we went up to a young female clerk. She asked for my credit card and drivers license, in which I put a $20 between the two and handed it to her. I asked if she had anything up in the upper floors with a panoramic view of the strip.
I think she has seen this game before, and the $20 instantly disappeared, as I am still not sure what she did with it. She said she will see what she could do, and offered us a room on the 33rd floor with a strip view, or 58th floor with a view the other direction going downtown. The Encore has "panoramic" rooms according to their site which are suppose to give more a view. We did not get upgraded to one of these rooms, but still had a nice view as all rooms at Encore have nice views
Not sure if the tip did any good and probably could have just asked for a room on a higher floor without the tip and may have gotten it.

Checked in at 18:00 on a Saturday. Didn't get to choose agent. Handed over passport, credit card and $20 and said we'd appreciate it if she could find us something nice like a high floor panoramic. She laughed at first and put the cash off to one side (I thought that was just going to get handed back). She spent a while searching and then told us we were in luck and gave us a room on the 56th floor. I'm not convinced we couldn't have got this by just asking nicely - but if not then on a 7 night stay this is over $150 upgrade for $20! By the way - the Encore skips floors 40-49 - so take this into account with upgrades - i.e. 54 is actually only 5 floors above 39!

I did get an upgrade but at Encore all the rooms are pretty much the same except for the parlor and salon suites. The upgrade was only a higher floor. Would love to try it at Wynn and see if it could be any better.

Checked in around 5:30 pm. Didn't get a choice of agents. My bf is too chicken to try the sandwich but the room was under his name. He gave DL and CC. I had a $20 folded in my right hand and held it out on the counter for agent to see. I asked if there were any comp upgrades cuz it's my birthday. She typed away, said an upgrade would cost $xx/nite. I said, no, that's ok. She looked at me and shook her head and said, I'll give it to you as my bday gift to you. I said thank you, shook her hand and gave her the $20. Received a beautiful room on 59th floor with a view of the strip.

We arrived to check in and were offered a room on the 39th floor. I overheard a conversation between another couple and a desk clerk who told them about upgrading to a higher floor for $25/night. I have read that the highest floors are considered an upgrade and have read various stories of people complaining when they are assigned a lower floor (noise, view, etc). So when were were offered the 39th floor, I pulled out my $20 and held it with my credit card/driver's license in plain view and politely requested another floor. The clerk then offered me a smoking room on the 63rd floor, but my hubby did not want to stay in a smoking room, so we settled for room 5418 which was very close to the strip side (the rooms lower in numbers are closest to the strip --5418 is closer say than 5446). Since we did not get the top floor that I really wanted, I gave her 10 bucks, and she seemed extremely appreciative. After arriving to the room, she even called us to ask us if we were happy with the room and told me to call her if there was anything else we needed during our stay!

We've stayed at the Wynn the last 7 times in Vegas, and each time the sandwich has worked. It appears they have a different policy at Encore. I saw the clerk I have dealt with on several occasions at Wynn, and got in his line, but the guys in front of me were taking forever, so I moved over to the next clerk. She was very pleasant, but as soon as I offered "the sandwich" and asked if there were any complimentary room upgrades, she hastily returned the $20 and said they did have upgrades for a small fee. We eventually settled on a beautiful south strip/golf course view room on the 60th floor for an additional $25 per night. So an extra $100 altogether, rather than $20. Again, the clerk was very helpful and friendly, but the way she shoved the $20 back suggested to me that they've been told by someone higher up to work the client for some extra cash rather than pocketing the tip themselves.

Did the sandwich and asked for a comp upgrade, high floor room, overlooking the strip. He told me he could not take a "tip" until after he had booked me. He then found the last open room on the 63rd (top) floor, overlooking the strip and gave it to me for 4 nights. My TA had booked a vacation package even though I was going for business and I paid a meager $150 a night. My co-workers, three of them, that didn't believe the trick or were afraid to try all ended up on the 8th floor.

Did the sandwich, he returned the 20 saying he could lose his job but seemed thankful. Gave us a bunch of different options on views, so gave us a choice of 3-4 different rooms. Not really much of an upgrade besides the view but I guess it still is an upgrade?

Upon check in we were gutted when we saw that all of the front desk agents were female! BF gave the clerk the $20 between the DL & CC and asked if any complimentary upgrades were available. The surprised clerk said "Oh" as the $20 slipped out onto her keyboard. She left the $20 on the keyboard throughout the entire transaction which was kind of awkward, as all of her coworkers could easily see it, but kindly offered us the choice of a pool view or panoramic view room. Lucky for us we ended up with a panoramic view room on the 55th floor, at the end of hall-absolutely no noise from neighbors or the strip!

checked in about 10:30pm... walked up to a female about 30 yrs old... she asked for the name on the reservation first with my hand over the "sandwich" in my pocket.. I kindly asked her if there were any upgrades for the evening... she typed for several minutes as I struck a friendly conversation... she had a couple of options to offer... one was a pool view at a lower level or a north strip view (toward the Stratosphere) which was the panoramic view on the 63rd floor... I chose the panoramic view then she asked for the dl and cc... I gave her the sandwich and saw the twenty... she offered to return it as I insisted her to keep it... the trick didn't wasn't necessary but it worked out well for our 4 night trip... will do this again next time

had an early morning flight into vegas, with 3pm check-in at the Encore. i slipped $20 between credit card and dl and asked the guy if there was any possibility of an early check-in. he went into the back and came out a few minutes later. no problem. also, he switched me to a room facing the strip, which was nice because the room i had reserved didn't have a view. well worth the $20.

Checked in with $50 sandwich between ID and AMEX BLACK CENTURION CARD. Agent apologized but the sandwich was NOT necessary and was returned. Because I was a Centurion card holder, I was provided with the highest upgrade available to Parlor Suite and escorted to the room and a RED card was registered with my name. Originally booked a Resort Suite.

I was a little worried about doing it. I was literally putting the $20 in between my CC and my DL as i was walking to the counter. It was around 5pm and not busy. I started chatting with the lady and placed the sandwiched money on the counter. I asked her immediately if there was anything she could do for the room. She looked up in the system and found this room. I needed a room with 2 queens and she was good about asking me if 1 king and a roll-away would work, I said no. She told me the room normally costs 50 bucks a night more but was doing it anyways. At the end I asked if we could get into the nightclubs and she didn't have any XS passes that would work for the saturday i was there but i got 4 free passes to Blush ($30 cover per person normally). I thanked her and we were set. I didn't know what view we got but was pleasantly surprised when I saw it was of the strip. Make sure if you are staying at Encore to get an EVEN numbered room cause that will face the strip. First time doing it and I will try it again and hopefully be a little smoother about it.

Placed the twenty on my wallet and asked, "may I get a panoramic room on a high floor"? The clerk was very friendly and we casually chatted about traveling and other things while she searched out the best room. Scored a non-smoking room on the 59th floor. I even asked for a line pass for the buffet and got that too! I tipped her the twenty, which she first declined, but I insisted so it was a good win-win situation.
