We had 6 nights booked for a standard double at CP. My brother and I tipped $20 to the lady on the checkin desk and without an issue were upgraded to a room in the Augustus tower.

I checked the web and during the time of my stay the upgrade was worth around $100 a night.

This was soooo easy. I waited forever in a long line and when it was finally my turn, I walked up with $20 sandwiched between id and credit card. She immediately knew what was up. Since there were so many people around, I didn't feel comfortable asking for a "comp upgrade" so I simply asked if there was anything available in the Palace or Augustus towers (both are equally deluxe). She said, "well, I do have a suite in the Palace tower, but it is non-designated." I was a little concerned and she said that simply meant it could be smoking or non. We took it and didn't smell smoke at all. Two-person jacuzzi, early check-in, and view of Bellagio/strip for $20? Sweeeet!

I had two separate reservations through online deals because I ended up with a flight into Vegas a day earlier than I had expected. 6/3 checking in with Michael. He slipped the $20 right into his jacket pocket, made a phone call and came back with the suite upgrade. He did tell me that becaue of the two separate reservations that he couldn't hold that room for the entire stay, but that I might get lucky if I came down to the desk early the next day.

6/4 went down to the desk, waited in line for keys/mail/room changes for 15 minutes, got frustrated & started over toward the main counter when I saw an opening. The desk agent, Andrew, didn't see me and waved someone else over, seeing me only after he'd done this. As soon as he was done with that guest he waved me over, I handed over my room key, ID, $20 and credit card. He set the $20 on the counter, punched away at the keyboard and told me that while he didn't have a suite, he did have a 44th floor oversized room with a view of the Bellagio fountains that I could change to right away. Very nice rooms in the new tower. A friend checking in that morning just after I switched rooms was told that nothing would be available until after 3pm... she didn't try the $20 trick.

Out in Vegas for Wedding.
Same as all before. $20 slipped between CC and DL.
Clerk does not go behind the curtain, but punches furiously on the computer.
Also, acted very suprized that the computer would let him put us in the room.
(Got the same room as the Bride/Groom who paid for an upgraded suite, on a higher floor and better view.) Key here I believe was to have the duration of my stay fall during the week.
Another member of the wedding party tried the same technique, with no luck and got stuck in the crappy Palace Tower as he was staying Fri night as well.

when she refused to take the bribe, we thought oh, it's over. but then she said, I will look it(free upgrade) for you, of course! several minutes later, she came back with "good news!", we were upgraded to the same penthouse floor as Elton John and Celine Dion. The suite was more than 1500 sf, one large guest bathroom and a huge master bathroom. the clerk said normally the room asks for 3000 per night. I was so happy because my parents travel with us and the trip became definitely a most memorable one for them.

Okay, I had never done this before and I was truly skeptical when my friend sent me the link to this site. Well, I gave it a try on my last trip to Vegas and it worked like a charm! I checked into the hotel just after 11PM on a Friday. Completed the $20 Trick so smoothly, that the clerk even commented, “Oh, I’m sure I have a suite available for you Mr. Bond” and giggled! It was awesome!

Had a late check in on Thursday night (about 11pm) and it was pretty quiet. Made some idle chit chat with the desk clerk and slid my folded the 20 in btw my Amex and my license (with the 20 exposed) and asked if there were any upgrades available for our stay. He saw the $20, made a phone call, and put us in the executive suite in the Augustus tower -- living room, spa tub, 2 flat screens (one in bathroom!) and beautiful view of strip and Bellagio fountains. Best bet I made in Vegas all weekend!

Worked like a charm. We went from a Deluxe Palace Tower Room (from the $180 / weekend night deal) to a Premium / Petit Suite Palace Tower Room (overlooking the pools (Venus!!!) I might add). The room price difference was $240...so for $20, I'll take. So, at the end of the day, I got 3 nights of hotel rooms with a normal price (per Expedia) of around $1,500 for $560. Thanks Fatwallet!!!

Oh and for those who are nervous, don't be. Like someone said earlier, just be friendly and they'll hook ya up. I was actually nervous myself but after handing her the money (between my ID and credit card) and having her leave it right on the desk while she looked for a better room. Later, when I was in my hotel room, there was a card on "proper tipping" for the International guests and right on there was $20-$50 for a room upgrade. So, sounds like standard practice to me.

Just like you have read, this was way easy. Asian girl at the airport check in was super cool. I slipped the $20 in with ID and credit card. I told her it was our anniversary and asked if there were any upgrades, like maybe the Augustus tower? She typed for a few minutes and then told me that the normal rate for this room was $700 per night, but because it’s our anniversary she would comp the upgrade. We got an awesome room overlooking Bellagio's water show.

Tipped $20 as soon as I walked up, explaining we would be difficult. Clerk gave it back and I acted confused "doesn't everyone get tipped in Vegas?" is what I said. I asked for a room facing the Bellagio and she called then said to my wife and I "you are celebrating your anniversary, right?" of course I said "yes we are". And all was good. Got a great room and then handed her back the $20. My friend did the same thing 2 days later and got the same setup only lower level and used a fifty.

No Dice For Andrew at Caesars Palace...

Checked in early at the airport and put two 20's between my credit card and License. The clerk was was super cool about it, knew exactly what I was doing. She typed away and made several phone calls saying it was my birthday. She tried for a good ten minutes but because it was the first weekend of the tournament, there just weren't that many rooms available to hook me up. She apologized profusely and gave me my $40 back. Though disappointed, I'll do this every time I come to Vegas. It will work, you just reduce your chances if you're going on a big weekend.

There was a huge queue for checkin so I had my $20 folded and ready and decided on the clerks who I'd try it with. Luckily got one of my choices who turned out to be one of the VIP clerks helping out due to the queue size.
The $20 was between the passport and cc as I walked up, she saw it instantly and put it on to her keyboard without a second thought and began typing away. We then chatted about the queue size and how busy it was this week due to the Nascar being in town and that it was my 30th birthday that week. etc.. then even without asking for the upgrade I got the.. "well your currently in a standard palace room but I've got a really nice room in the Augustus tower but its smoking", we asked if she could find anything else as we're non smokers and after a minute or so said.. Yes I've got you a lovely suite on the top floor in the Palace Tower with a view of the fountains etc... and here's my personal VIP number should you need anything.

The suite was amazing and the wife was well impressed with how well the $20 trick worked, all thanks to this website and I didn't even have to ask for the upgrade !

Chatted with clerk & mentioned a crappy flight, our first trip here/anniversary trip & how excited we were to be at Caesars. I had the tip sandwiched between my ID & CC. I made it partially visible while asking if any upgrades were available. He said yes. After he saw the tip he comped the upgrade (which was about $800 for our 5-night stay) AND!!!! first night was free (~$140). Definitely glad I've been following this thread(s).

Room has an excellent view of the strip and Bellagio fountain. Wow!

I checked in way too early, which isn't always a bad idea. I was really nervous at the same time since this would be my first time trying the $20 trick. Struck a conversation right away about the weather difference from California to Nevada. He was very nice, and I had my GF stand away from us but close enough to where he could see her. I asked for any complimentary upgrades since this was my GF's first trip to Vegas(true)and flashed the $20 between my ID and CC. He says let me see what I can do and starts typing away. They had a room in the Augustus Tower but it wouldn't be ready for another couple of hours. I said that sounds good so he makes a call to someone and he's on the phone arguing trying to get the room for me. After he hangs up he tells me that someone else beat him to that room. Then he offered me the same room that I had booked but higher to the top which isn't a big difference but it had it's own elevator and so forth. So I felt a little better...hehe. I still gave him the $20 for the effort he put into it and he told me to call him on his direct line if there was any problems or anything I needed.

I checked in at the airport, and slipped the $20 between my cc and ID, asking for a complimentary upgrade since it was my wife's birthday. he immediately saw it and gave it back to me and said, hold on to this, let me see what i can do. apparently Ceasar's was completely booked all weekend, and he couldnt get us a Palace tower suite or something in the Augustus Tower. But he said he gave us a non-smoking room with a nice view. I decided to try my luck at the front desk, and again slipped them $20 and said that the airport clerk said I should try and get an upgrade at the hotel check in. The desk clerk took a look at my reservation and said that I would be very happy with the room, and if I didnt like it, to come down and talk to him. he gave me back the $20. So we went to go check out the room, and it was a nice room with a great view of the strip, but it was definitely not a non-smoking room. so i went back down and talked to another desk clerk, and complained to her that it was my wife's bday and that we couldnt breathe in the smokey room. she tried to move us, but since it was so late and the hotel was overbooked, there was nothing she could move us to. but she gave us a food credit of $75, and then put in a note in the computer to upgrade us to a nice room the next morning. So finally the next morning, I went downstairs and they took a look at the reservation and gave us a room in the Augustus Tower - which ROCKED.

No Dice For Anon at Caesars Palace...

There was a big line when we got there, ended up checking in with a female. I politely asked if there were any upgrades available, she said she'd check. After typing away for a bit, she said that she could offer us a free upgrade to the Palace Towers. We had booked through an online deal where we were already guaranteed a free upgrade from the Classic Guest room to the Palace Towers, so this wasn't really an upgrade. I told her that was the room we had originally booked and asked if there was any way she could give us the Augustus towers. She replied that they were all sold out. Didn't try with cash, maybe that would have helped, although being a weekend it is possible that the Augustus towers were full.

Got in a huge line to check in. Had the $20 in my pocket and was only going to bring it out if I thought I had a chance with the front desk host. I got a young guy and thought I would go for it again. I started a conversation about how much I respected him for dealing with all the chaos and mentioned it was my girlfriends birthday and that I wanted her to have a really special stay. He asked for the card and when he noticed the $20 he set it in front of him and said he would see what he could do. He typed for a while and then mentioned the suite and the view(it sounded great). He said it would be an additional $400 a night(I was thinking great...), but aparently he hadn't finished his sentece. He said it would be an additional $400 a night, but that it would be waived because it was my girlfriends birthday. SWEET! He also said he would make sure we got comped room service in the morning. He gave me is card and said if I needed anything else to give him a call.

Worked great both times. Thanks you guys for the posts. Im thinking it was better to have checked in as early as possible because they will have that many more upgrades available. You got to beat everyone to them. Good look guys.
