Jackpot! Mike Got A Bellagio Room Upgrade

We went with the $50 trick. Checked in at 11:00am with Aga, a very nice clerk. She was very appreciative of the $50, and actually offered us a suite. That would have been great, but the suite had now direct view of the fountains. We opted for the lower upgrade of a fountain view room, since the wife really wanted to watch the fountains from the room. She gave us a gift certificate for free perfume at one of the shops. She was surprised that we didn't take the suite, but understood. Great experience. This was my first attempt at the trick, and didn't feel weird at all.

No Dice For Anonymous at Bellagio...

Not much to say...We had high hopes it would work after reading all of the "success" stories here. We did exactly what everyone else had mentioned about putting a $20 between ID and credit card and very kindly asked if there were any fountain view rooms that might be available. The check in clerk (female about 25 years old) typed away for a few minutes and said sorry there's nothing, but I can put you on a high floor. We got the 24th floor looking out to the mountains and in the distance was the pool at Caesars.

Did the trick, with the twin placed between my ID and AMEX...started to ask the clerk for an upgrade and he interrupted me with a 'stop' hand gesture, and told me not to say anything. We just talked as he filled out the Line Pass card for the restaurants for me, then as he gave me my keys to the room, said 'enjoy your lake view'...very nice!

Checked in at 11:00am while everybody else seemed to be leaving. I handed her a $50 in hopes of upping the stakes a little. I asked her if there were any comp. upgrades. She left the desk and asked her supervisor. Came back and said that this was her first upgrade and had to ask how to do it (been there three weeks). I suggested that she should go for a suite since it was her first upgrade. Lakeview upper floor was the most that she was authorized to do. Nice and very polite. Great room. 20 would have gotten the same thing but 50 was worth a try.

It was a busy check in and had to wait about 15 minutes for this snotty upscale women complaining about something. The manager was right behind our clerk the whole time. I just said that "seems busy today huh!" I then asked if there were any complimentary upgrades available. She didn't hear me so I had to say it again (I was a little nervous) I put the twenty in between my id and credit card like everybody else. She typed in for a minute and said that she has a fountain view available. After the check out she left the twenty on the counter and asked if I needed any change! I said that is for you hun. The manager and her were super cool. My wife and I were excited and it was a great view.

I wouldn't recommend giving $50 a room for only two nights.

I was debating whether or not Bellagio would accept only $20. Some posters claimed $50 was more appropriate, but I went ahead and tried with $20. I had the $20 between my ID and CC, as suggested. She calmly laid the $20 on the counter in full view. Sure enough, the clerk had been through the drill, and my "measly" $20 was sufficient. We were originally going to be facing the pool, according to the clerk, but she offered to upgrade to either a partial lakeview in the new tower, or on the 10th floor with full view. We decided on the full view. Granted it wasn't as high as we may have liked, but it was still beautiful. Plus I didn't notice the water cannons at night, which some people complained was too loud.

Just like the others have done. I put the 20 between my CC and ID and gave it to the clerk. He put the 20 aside and started typing away.

Had a reservation for 2 queen bed standard non-smoking room. Slipped the clerk a $20 between the Credit card and ID and asked if there were any complimentary upgrades available. Typed for a while, and gave me 3 options:

1. Jr. Suite with 75 square feet more room and a king and rollaway.

2. Lakeview smoking room with 2 queens

3. Lakeview non-smoking with a king and rollaway.

Took option 2 as neither of us wanted to sleep in a rollaway, and not worried about smoke.

I was in at the Bellagio for a sales rally and my company had already booked and paid for my room weeks in advance. Upon check-in, I handed over the twenty between my DL and credit card. The woman behind the desk took the twenty and placed it aside without acknowledging it. After searching for my reservation, she said to me, "Currently we have you with a pool and garden view, is there something else you were looking for?" When I asked for a lake view, she responded that at this time of day (1 PM), those rooms are extremely rare. But she checked anyways, and a minute later this is what she said: "Sir, I hope you plan on doing some gambling because this is your lucky day! This is the first time I've ever seen a lake view room available at this time of day." She booked me on the 18th floor with a perfect central view of the lake. It made my trip!

I had the $20 bill folded under DH's driver's license during entire check in process. Our clerk was familiar with our hometown location - Wine Country - which started a conversation about her next visit to our area. I gave her my business card and said she should email us next time she was coming out and that we would be happy to help her with her visit. DH asked if there were any comp. upgrades available for a full lake view (knew what we wanted), she said sure, and that they were allowed to accept gratuities, so DH slid the $20 over. She was very pleasant, and the trick worked so well.

Gave the check-in lady some nice English chat about this being my girlfriend's first time in Vegas, her birthday present, etc (all true). Slipped $20 between CC and ID, asked if there was anything she could do to make my girl's stay a little nicer. She pocketed the $20 without blinking and upgraded me to a lake view room, which was pretty damned nice. Result.

It was my first time going to Vegas and I was really excited about trying the $20 dollar trick. I was skpetical at first as I booked the hotel via Travelocity and I read from this forum that hotels are known to give Travelocity customer the worst rooms and do not allow upgrades. But I gave it a try anyways. I arrived to Bellagio at 11 am (while the standard check-in time is 3:00 pm)
All of the Check-in Clerks were available thus I just went up to a random one. I started to have small talk with her and asked how her day was going. Then I gave my credit card and driver's license to her with the $20 in between. After she saw that, I asked if "IS there any complimentary upgrades available as it was me and my gf's 5th year anniversary and I want to make it extra special for her..." Unfortunately, she said no at first as she claimed the hotel is fully booked today, then she asked "I am sorry, but Do I have to give this back? (Referring to the $20)" OF course i dont want to sound cheap so I told her its okay. Then after typing for a minute or two on the computer, she said "Oh Mr. _____ , I have found a room facing the fountain at no extra cost to you, would you like that?" Of course i said yes, then she said "be right back" and she went to the office. When she came back, she said, "Congratulation Mr. ____ , we want to make your annivesary extra special, here is a complimentary vouchers for our Bellagio perfume and cologne that you could redeem at our giftshop at no costs." I thanked her once again when the transaction was done.

Key points: As long as you are nice, you will be able to get upgrades even booking hotels via Priceline or Travelocity.
It never hurt to ask, even at hotels like Bellagio.

Put the $20 between my license and the credit card - barely sticking out - handed it to her - didn't let go when she reached for them - then I said "anything you can do to help make this stay memorable would be greatly appreciated" - 2 minutes later we had checked in almost 5 hours early to a beautiful room.

Upgraded To: 27th floor full strip/fountain view - free gift (perfume for my wife, cologne for me, free line cutting pass for our stay for the buffet, and got to check in @ 10 am instead of 3 pm

Sent my wife in and she told them it was our anniversary. (it was close enough, haha). She typed for several minutes and then went in the back for a while.
Not sure she even saw the $20 but we gave it to her anyway. Also got a line pass for the buffet (it sucked btw, Beau Rivage in Biloxi was MUCH MUCH better), and a free gift of
their Bellagio colonge and perfume from the gift shop. ($40 value)

pretty much didn't want to check in too early because of the sunday morning rush from everybody checking out. so we ate at the buffet and killed some time and then finally checked in. found a guy, because we figured we'd have better luck with a guy, had the 50 inbetween the cc and dl and just asked, would you happen to have any upgrades to suites available? he typed away, and said this is what i can do for you, found a nice mini-suite on the 25th floor with the lakeview and two windows views of everything to the right of Bellagio. again, as everybody else says, well worth it in my opinion.

No Dice For Anonymous at Bellagio...

I never knew about this trick but when I stayed at the Bellagio for my Honeymoon, but I asked if we could be upgraded to a room over looking the fountains. The lady at the check in was very polite but said there was no rooms available but to check back tomorrow. We didn't end up checking back the next day as the standard rooms are amazing to begin with but next time I will try the $20 trick to see what it gets me!

Highly recommend Bellagio, amazing hotel!

I was fortunate enough to find a room rate of $149/night for Thurs/Fri/Sat thanks to the Vegas hotel deals forum. At the front desk, I slipped $20 under my credit card and asked if any complimentary upgrades were available. I was hoping for a fountain view, but he upgraded us to a Tower Deluxe room. Basically, this meant a slightly larger room (625 vs. 510 sq ft) at the end of the hallway with windows on the north and west walls (including a third next to the bath tub with jacuzzi jets). We felt the upgrade was worth it.

No Dice For Shoppgirl at Bellagio...

Booked a Bellagio Suite, husband folded a twenty between ID and Credit Card. Put it on the counter and the clerk saw it as Husband asked if there were any suites with a lakeview. He left the cards and bill on the counter and said he would look. Nothing. He went to the back to probably ask someone and was gone a few minutes. Came back and said no. All booked, supposedly. He took the card and ID, leaving the bill on the counter. He gave us a high floor with a nice view of the pool and mountains though.

Jackpot! Rambo2000 Got A Bellagio Room Upgrade

Just thought I'd throw in my experience for everyone. My wife and I were in Las Vegas last week. We stayed at the Bellagio (fantastic hotel!). Anyhow we got in on Wed. and left on Sat. We had booked our reservation as part of a package on Orbitz (I'm sure we were booked into the cheapest room they had). Put the $20 underneath my credit card and ask the for a view of the fountains. She put us up on the 28th floor right in the middle of the hotel looking down on the fountains. I know the tip worked as another couple went with us and booked the same trip (same price, flights, etc.) on Orbitz and checked in at the same time, and they ended up on the 12th floor facing the back of the hotel.

Anyhow we had them up for a couple of bottles of wine a couple of nights and watched the fountain shows for a while before we went out.

Definitely worth the $20!
