No Dice For TB at Bellagio...

Reserved and needed a room with 2 beds. Clerk attempted to find an upgraded room with 2 beds but could only offer a king. Declined the king and stuck with the original room. At least she returned the tip.

Checked in around 11:30. I was very tempted to try the $20 trick after reading about the high success rate. I looked for a cute, friendly check-in girl. Sure enough, in the middle there was a pretty blonde girl about 25. I did the $20 sandwiched in between id and credit card, showing just enough of the $20. I asked if there were any complimentary upgrades available - she smiled and asked what type of room I was looking for. I replied with Lakeview Non-smoking. She also asked if it was for a special occasion - we said it was for our anniversary. She placed the $20 to the side by the computer and checked for about 30 seconds and found us a Lakeview non-smoking 23rd floor in the middle - perfect view!
She was very friendly and really appreciated the tip.

This sight is awesome! Tried slipping the tip in between the cards...at first no rooms were available (still being cleaned). The desk clerk called a manager and upgraded us to a Spa Tower Suite-with a caveat-due to construction next door, the power would not be on for another 45 minutes.NO PROBLEM!!! Due to special occasion, also received a coupon for fragrance. Men's fragrance being discontinued, so received a full bottle, instead of a sample,as well as samples of the woman's fragrance. They sure know how to treat their guests!!!(Desk clerk even asked if I wanted change!)

Arrived on a marketing offer for rediculously low rates. hotel was booked, being a summer Saturday arrival. Showed the $20 anyway. Clerk informed us we had low floor, no view, and there was nothing else available yet, to check back. Came back to another clerk a couple of hours later - offered a high floor with mountain view or room with partial lake view. We took the partial lake view and a bird's eye view of giant Tony Braxton at the Flamingo. Gave the second clerk a $20 tip. Not much of an upgrade, but it did happen!

After reading about all this here, we decided to try it with the twenty between the DL and CC...We got to the hotel about 5:30 pm, and lines were light, we scoped out a younger female clerk, who looked friendly. I asked her if they had any complimentry upgrades available, she took my cards and the twenty, and set the money on the counter right by the computer. She asked me what I was looking for. I mentioned either a lakeview, or a Tower Deluxe (helps to research the room types beforehand, which I did). She said she could do a lakeview, or a Tower Deluxe, but the Tower Deluxe would be a pool view...which was fine, and worth it. We took that.. It's a corner room, quite bigger, with two windows (one on each side) and a separate whirlpool tub with a big window there too....and she gave us a "line pass" to use at the buffet during our stay...Glad I found this site!

Thought our upgrade chances were slim because the hotel appeared to be booked when I checked online. Decided to try for one of the renovated rooms anyway. We checked in at 9:45AM and I placed the $20 between my credit card and ID, and asked if we could get a higher floor or one of the newly renovated rooms. The clerk put the $20 aside, and said, "Well, I think a view would be nicer." Who could argue with that? We were offered a corner room with a jacuzzi tub and a view of Caesars-palace/"target="_blank">Caesar's immediately. Or if we were willing to wait 2 hours, we could have a corner lakeview room with a jacuzzi tub. We definitely waited!

I was a bit apprehensive about doing this, but then I figured they could only say no. It was 12:30 P.M. I put the $20 in between my credit card and license when I walked up to the counter... asked if there were any complimentary upgrades available....he noticed the money...had a hard time finding anything....asked me if the money was for him....I told him, "It sure is." He asked me to come back in two hours to give him time to find something... I returned at 2:30 and he told me he had a fabulous room for me (and my mom). He described the room and I gave him another $10 when I left the desk. It was the best room ever....beautiful view....gorgeous everything.....I'd do it again in a minute. It worked!

With my wife hiding, mortified, in the lobby... I make my first attempt to upgrade a room on the cheap. I hand the clerk a CC/$20/ID sandwich. Without blinking, she has the $20 in her pocket. I barely get the chance to fumble out the words, "Do you ...uh... have any available upgrades?...", before she says that we are upgraded to a lakeview room, normally a $50/night value! Bottom line: Winner!

Put the Jackson in between my 2 forms of ID and asked if there were any complimentary upgrades at this time. Not sure what we were getting before but they put us up on the 14th floor with the lakeview. Told her it was our honeymoon, but no free gifts for that I guess. Pretty busy at the time too. Happy that it worked though!

Offered tip and asked if there were any suites available. After much typing and conversing on the phone, she said no, but that a Tower Deluxe room was available. We took it, though we didn't know exactly what that meant. It means Room #28042: window facing east, window facing south, window in bathroom facing south, and more room. Definitely worth it!

Crystal was the person who checked me in. I handed her the $20 between my DL and CC and asked about any complimentary upgrades available...maybe a lakeside view. She found a room in the spa tower that faced the lake...and said if I wanted to call the desk after 3 there would be more rooms availabe ....but the view from the spa tower was fine.

First it did not work, then it worked the second time. Here's what happened. We checked in on Saturday around noon and it was super busy. We waited around scoping out who to approach and couldn't find any young males so we went for a young asian female who looked really friendly. We chose $100 for the tip - mainly because we had a free room anyway and thought $100 would up the stakes alot. Sandwiched the $100 between credit card and id and asked for a comp upgrade. She immediately pocketed the cash and then said there was nothing - that they were selling the upgrade for $50 a night. I said no thanks. She suggested we take our current room and then call to ask for an upgrade later. I said we were not in a rush to check in and would wait and see what happens. She clearly had no intention of returning the money, so I simply asked for it back.

THEN, we checked in later with a woman in her early 30's. She was SUPER cool and was obviously experienced in the tip practice. This time I opted to put the $100 under my hand (showing it while talking) and asked for an upgrade. She thought it would not be a problem. She offered us a deluxe suite but no fountain view or a regular room with fountain view. We chose the regular room with a view. She also gave us line passes for the buffet. Worked well in the end - didn't feel strange at all. I wouldn't do more than a $20 next time. If they can do it, I'm sure they would do it for that. In the end, I guess it just really all depends on who you get!

Original reservations where made through I4vegas. The clerk checked for a while and was having trouble finding stuff (but was clearly trying hard). We ended up getting a room with a lake view on the 9th floor, which was technically not a Lake View room (those are 10th floor and above), but still had a very nice view. Certainly worth $20 for three nights.

After reading all the reviews here, I just had to see for myself if this tipping trick would work. It did and the nice clerk gave us an upgrade to the 24th floor! 7 nights of the fountain view looking right at the Eiffel Tower and gorgeous fountains is highly recommended!!

Made the credit card, id, $20 sandwich and asked if there were any fountain view rooms available. She typed on her keyboard and made a call, took about 3 minutes. Then she never told me it was available. She promptly slipped the $20 into her pocket. They put us on the 15th floor with an OUTSTANDING fountain view. Well worth it, I think we would have been sol had I not given the $20. Go for it, it works. I have a pic of the room view if you want to email me. Find me on slickdeals, bigbearballs.

Put the $20 in between ID and CC. Didn't think the Clerk saw it, so I mentioned there was something for him there. He said he felt it. He asked me what I was looking for, I said Lakeview, suite. After a lot of typing, we ended up with a corner Tower Deluxe room with a Lakeview. The room was great, but very far from the elevators.

Checked in late around midnight & gave clerk the $50 along with license. At first she attempted to give back as she thought it was an accident, then i stopped her and said i was wondering if there were any comp upgrades. she said she would take care of me and typed away & called a manager or something to unlock the room (i think she was somewhat new & with limited authority). I asked for a really nice view & she gave us 24th floor right in the middle next to where the suites are. Also i asked what she could do for me because she said that she hadnt been tipped for a long time. She only gave us comp buffet line passes & comped the minibar for about $75.00, so it was obviously worth it. I would assume the value of the $50.00 tip was about $275.00 plus about an hour of our time we would have waited in the buffett line...success!
