Jackpot! Chris in Dallas Got A Bally's Room Upgrade

First try with the $20 trick. Chcked in on July 4 for a 5 night stay. Placed the twenty between my ID and CC. Handed it to the clerk who noticed it, and thanked me. He then threw the $20 into the recessed area of the desk that the monitor sits in. I asked about a complementary upgrade, and he started typing away. After a few minutes, he gave me a few choices. A suite in the South Tower or a "Luxury" room in the North Tower (newer) with a great view of the pool. He recommended the Luxury room since it was larger and because the suite had no view. I took his advice. The room was wonderful! New furniture and very large with couch, table and chairs and desk.

Was so glad to find the $20 trick actually worked and wasn't awkward or uncomfortable at all. The clerk was very appreciative and thanked me several times!

Never did this before after well over 15 trips to Vegas. Woman at the counter at the airport was very nice, I slipped in the 20 b/w CC and Lic. She saw it, and asked what she could do for me. I asked for the 2 rooms we had both be in the North tower, and she said, "no problem."

Jackpot! Hoss Got A Bally's Room Upgrade

Wanted not just an upgrade but an upgrade to a suite. Used $50 -- two $20's and a $10 -- placed between credit card and license. Chatted with clerk, was told hotel was at full occupancy. I told him we were in town to celebrate my wife's MBA (true). He said it would be tough to get a suite, but typed for a whle. Then he sai he could upgrade to a suite for the first half of the stay, but would have to move us down te hall of the same floor and could only offer a North Tower upgrade with Bellagio view for second half of stay. (Comparison cost $80 reservation/$450 suite/$100 North Tower).

This was more than great!. Then when he took the credit card and ID he pulled the $50 out, handed it back to me, and said he did not want to take that since he could not give us the suite for the whole trip!

Visibly held the $20 in my hand, handed her the credit card and ID, then asked if any complimentary upgrades were available. I asked specifically for strip view since this is what I wanted. She checked the computer and said she didn't have anything with the strip view. I acted disappointed, then tapped the $20 on the counter, and she quickly changed her mind and showed us where our suite would be located. It was on the top floor for the rooms, the floor above us had the ballrooms. It had an excellent strip view, including a view of the Bellagio fountains. Our friend booked his reservation at the same time for the same room on the same dates. He didn't give try the $20 and was placed in a standard south tower room on the ninth floor. The upgrade was obvious when you compared one room to the other, so it was definitely a success!

Followed tip to the T, walked up to gentleman with $20.00 between drivers licence and credit card and asked for any complimentary upgrades and he said he had something for one night, but would need to move to a different room for the 2nd and 3rd night. He put us in the Celebrity Suite in the North Tower, which he claims they do not sell. Claims it is a $300.00 upgrade. The room was HUGE over 1500 sq. feet! 2 baths, HUGE tub and shower, work out room with bike. Bar, dining room table w/ seatin for 8. The room was awsome. Went back down to thank him and see what we could do for the next 2 nights. He was able to get me the same room on the South Tower for $100 bucks more a night. Very nice, though, a little older than the one in the North Tower. So basically we stayed in 2 celebrity suites for 3 days for $407.00 as opposed to the $69.00 rooms we reserved. The extra 220 that we spent in the tip and extra 2 nights was well worth it...over 1500 square feet!!!!!!! Thanks guys!!!

The room was in my wife's name. I taught her the trick on the flight out. When she got there, she did it so well, the desk clerk didn't even realize the $20 was in there until the last moment. When she did, we were upgraded to a mini-suite in the south tower on the 16th floor. Thanks for the great advice!

No Dice For Greg at Bally's...

I found a great deal for a luxury room (not a classic or deluxe) for $69/ night for 5 nights. I slipped her the $20 and asked for an upgrade. She said she had a great refurbished room for me in the North Tower. I reserved a luxury room so I expected a great refurbished room. She pretended she was doing me a favor, but I don't think so. It was my first time trying the $20 trick and I felt like I was down $20 before I even got to my room. The room was big and very nice however, but I think it was the same room I reserved.

No Dice For Jim Nanners at Bally's...

I knew we were at a disadvantage going into our stay because Bally's and Paris were both completely full for the WPPI convention (it took a special favour to book even standard rooms several weeks prior). Additionally, we were staying for a week, and I knew it would be more difficult to upgrade for our duration.

I waited in line to check-in at the airport, sizing up the agents. There were 3 women: a very bubbly caucasian woman in her early 20s, a professional african-american woman in her mid-late 20s, and a very stern looking woman in her mid-late 50s. We were greeted by the professional african-american woman.

She asked which hotel we were visiting and requested my ID and credit card. I handed her both with a $20 bill between them, saying "This is a very special week for us, and anything you can do will be greatly appreciated." She began typing in her computer and then noticed the $20, which she picked up, handed back to me, and said, "Oh, this isn't even necessary, sir. I'll try to find you something great." She then spent between 5 and 10 minutes trying different options in her computer.

Because the place was completely full, the only thing she could find was a Junior Suite, which she offered to us; however, the suite was a smoking room and I didn't want to risk it. So we declined the suite and accepted our standard king room. Since our room was not ready, she instructed us to inquire about additional options with the front desk when we claimed our room keys. She was very helpful and friendly, and I'm confident she'd have been able to help out on another weekend, but these two hotels were simply too full.

I tried once again at the hotel when we picked up our keys, but the agent didn't understand what I was asking. He also didn't seem to have the authority to make any modifications -- it felt like his job was to simply distribute keys.

Bally's rooms are all generally large and clean, but our 15th-floor north tower room wasn't anything special. Our bathroom had a mildewy smell, and everything else was rather average. Our view was disappointing: overlooking the casino roof and other Bally's and Paris rooms. We could barely see the Eiffel Tower.

Overall, I'm disappointed it didn't work out. I was so excited to report success back to this site, but I think the hotel vacancy issue was working against us. :\

I talked to my wife about the $20 trick, but we figured that it was only worth it if we were staying more than one night. Upon check in, I talked to the employee about how his day was going, explained how it was our first time at Bally's, smiled a lot and acted happy to be there talking with him. I half-jokingly asked "are there any good rooms left?" He replied "I'm checking for you right now." Yak, yak, yak, type, type, type. He gave me the keys. Without asking, or him mentioning... we found our room at the end of a long hallway on the 14th floor and it was HUGE, with a view of the strip, his/hers sinks, jetted tub, king bed, bidet, etc.

I wrote a letter of thanks/compliment about his service to Bally's CEO and to the hotel/casino today.

At first he said that they weren't giving out rooms yet and put us up in our reserved room and gave me the $20 back. Said he would call when they started to give out rooms and at 7:30 he called with the suite. The upgrade price he showed me was $350 above the normal room rate of $159. Great view and service. Suprised to get this kind of room for the whole stay at only $20.

Folded $20 bill under credit card... i begin to ask if an upgrade was avail..but even before i could finish my sentence he said "i would be happy to work something out for you" and slipped the $20 on to his keyboard. he started typing away,he asked what my preferences were- 2 queens non smoking. he said if i wanted a view of the Bellagio i would have to sacrifice for a smaller room, but since i was sharing the room with 3 other girls he knew i would prefer something bigger. so he found me what he called a "Jr. Suite" in the north tower (newly remodeled) with a view of the Wynn. well when i got into the room, it was actually the same type of room i booked online, The Deluxe. however, we were on the 24th floor (there are 26 floors total) our view was of the mountains and Bally's pool. did not see the Wynn anywhere from my room. but when i went out to the elevator lobby on my floor and looked out the window the Wynn was in sight. so pretty much i think the $20 bux paid for a higher floor and away from the elevator, which was nice because it was quiet...but not a bigger room.
also, hotel policy states that if more than two people stay in room there is a $30 charge per extra person, he didnt charge me and gave me 3 extra keys without me asking. not sure if this was because of the tip i gave him or if they dont enforce that rule.
i was nervous and was almost going to chicken out, but then i thought to myself "what do you have to lose" and it worked out just fine.
