The clerk was friendly and promised a suite in the North Tower. When we got to our room it was an average room on a mid floor with a crappy view. He took the $20 and when we went back downstairs he had left for the day. Granted it was Valentine's weekend, but all he had to say was that there was nothing available. I understand the no upgrade, but lying about it and going home soon after? Kind of a crappy thing to do.

We had a 4-night comped Classic South Tower room booked. I held onto the $20 while asking nicely for a free upgrade. The clerk said she had a Deluxe room in the North Tower, but I asked if there was anything else available. I told her that last year we were upgraded to a petite suite and would really like to get one again. I also said that the view was not that important to us. I assume she thought she was not going to get the $20 unless I got the room I wanted, so she continued to look until she found us the petite suite. I would of given her the tip for the deluxe room, but I think hanging onto the $20 helped in getting a nicer room (2210A - had a small wet bar with regrig, sink and coffee maker). It also had a mirrored vanity outside the nice bathroom, and the view was not that bad.

Checked in around 10 pm. Did the sandwich and asked for a Jacuzzi suite, she did a nervous laugh and said she couldn't upgrade to that without paying for it. We ended up getting an upgrade to the North Tower with an ok view for 4 nights. It was worth an extra $5 a night for the upgrade for sure. Thanks for the site!

No Dice For Eric at Bally's...

Offered $20 tip to the clerk for an upgrade of a good strip view. She was very enthusiastic and said that she would get us in a room normally reserved for Diamond players with a view. Sounds good, right. Got to the room and it was not renovated and somewhat shabby, the view was of the back of Bill's. The room would have been fine had we not spent the $20.

It totally worked! We had an old pre-renovated room reserved for the low rate of $53 per night for MLK weekend. We handed over a $20 sandwich and asked about comp room upgrades. We got upgraded to a much larger newly renovated north tower room. totally going to do this again. Our brother in law did the same thing at Planet Hollywood and got upgraded to a large top floor room with a view of the Bellagio fountain and the strip.

Reserved Ballys Hot Deal (cheapest room available-south tower). I arrived at 3:00 pm walked up to clerk, introduced myself, presented sandwich and specifically asked "Are there any complimentary suite upgrades available?". In a matter of seconds I was upgraded to North Tower-Spa Suite.

I had booked the cheapest room online. It is best to be straight-forward (no chessy fake special occasion story). I checked in at 4:30pm on Friday and it was pretty busy (about 15-18 minute wait in line). I asked the clerk if I was able to get a free upgrade if I provided a $20 tip. He smiled and say he would gladly check the system. I wanted the spa suite but it was not available. He offered the deluxe room which was much bigger than the standard room. Wife was a little nervous and embrassed....but it worked and I took the deluxe room. Definitely worth $20. I am one happy camper.

I submitted "don't remember" because if they are cracking down on this, I don't want to get my front desk agent in trouble. We had a 4 night comp for Sunday 11-23, depart Thursday 11-27--Thanksgiving. After my agent looked up my res, I quickly handed DL, CC and $20 and asked for comp upgrade if they weren't booked. (And I smiled and joked around alot--in other words, I tried to be very pleasant.) The person had something ready right away (9am) in North Tower. Didn't know it was a suite until we got there!! Very cool, but I can see how this wouldn't work with the "wrong" checkin person.

Check in line was horribly long, and the were only about 6 clerks working - everyone in line was getting crabby and aggravated.

When it was our turn, the first thing I asked the cleark was if the hotel was full - and she said no.

I did the trick and she was so happy. She said she could give me a room with a great view - or a mini suite in the remodeled tower. We took the suite.
