first time trying the sandwich - let people in line go in front of us because we wanted to get a female clerk...handed her the sandwich and asked if there were any 'complimentary upgrades'...she asked if the $20 was for her and we nodded...she quickly slips the money into her pocket and starts to type away (floor by floor i saw her trying from floor 10 - 16)...we said we didn't care about view because all we wanted was a bigger more comfortable room...she worked out some deal with the clerk standing next to her and i heard the other clerk tell his guest "sorry - all we have available is a king size bed in the south tower" hahaha....clerk tells us we are moved to the north tower deluxe for free...success

checked into at about 8 p.m. on a Monday evening. We had reserved two regular rooms, one for myself and one for my sister & niece. We gave the clerk two $20 "sandwiches". We asked firstly if he could ensure that we had adjoining rooms. We said my niece had graduated college in NYC the day before (which was true) and if there was any way to upgrade us it would be nice. He worked on the computer a bit: Said he had a suite w/ an adjoining room but that it was "smoking". We said we'd check it out. He said come back if we weren't happy. The rooms were in the North Tower with no hint of smoke. Worked to perfection. (Also, the clerk added he'd be there at 7 p.m. every night for the whole week if we needed anything else!!)

I arrived earlier than my check in time on Friday May 22nd for my memorial day weekend stay. I glanced over at the counter to see two fairly large African American Women at the check-in desk. Not very hopeful at this point I got desperate and put a $50 in the sandwich, I figured what the hell can I lose I'm getting it comped anyways. I handed over the sandwich and she immediately set it down not knowing there was money in it. She went through the usual process and I finally say "Is there anyway to get a complimentary upgrade, I think there's something you passed over in their" (pointing to the sandwich)she slides the top open to find a 50$ and goes "oh my" she goes let me see what I can do, she says it's usually 20 so here you go, (and hands me back the 50 and I hand her a 20) she upgraded me to a North Tower Deluxe Suite and 2 free drinks from the bar that she wrote out right then and there. I can't believe how well this worked. Thank you!

We just got back from a 5 night stay in Vegas at Bally's. I told my wife about tipping the front desk clerk for a better room and she thought I was nuts. We're standing in line and I look at the various clerks available and I saw the one I wanted and just felt that she knew the system by looking at her as well as interacting with the customers in front of us. Our turn to check in, we stroll casually up to the counter and supply the $20 underneath my license and asked simply if there were any rooms available with a view of the strip on a higher floor. She tells me that there aren't any rooms like that available and what is available has construction nearby so they try to keep those rooms vacant. What she did for us instead was put us up in their Grand Room suite complete with his/her sinks, jacuzzi right off the living area/bedroom and just a lot of room for $20!!! We saved ourselves over $1500 in the room alone and it was completely worth the attempt!

I was in line & just took the next clerk available. I gave her the sandwich & asked if there were any upgrades available. Then remembered and added the words "comp upgrades". She said she would give me a suite. I went up & it was non-smoking. I'm a smoker. Went back down & let several people go by me in line so I was sure to talk to the same girl. Told her I loved the room so, so much, but it was non smoking & I needed smoking. She moved me to the same room, one floor up (25th floor). It was wonderful! Big jacuzzi, large make up mirror, balcony I could actually go out on. Only really decent bet I made on my trip. Thanks to all for the advice I have gotten here.

When we checked in at 11:00 AM, the only clean rooms were Petite Suites which they were offering to other patrons for an extra $25 per night. I handed over the sandwich, asked for a complimentary upgrade and received one of the available rooms immediately. While everyone else was lining up at the bellhop to check their bags and wait for their rooms, we walked right up and settled in. Well worth it!!!

This works time and time again. Who doesn't want an extra $20? People on our conference didn't know about this trick, and ended up with their rooms as booked - bottom-line South Tower.

DID THE $20 SANDWICHED IN BETWEEN LICENSE + CREDIT CARD, ASKED IF THERE WERE ANY UPGRADES AVAILABLE, HE SAID YES, GOT THE REMOLDED ROOMS IN NORTH TOWER, STILL A BASIC ROOM BUT HEY IT WAS WORTH THE $20

No Dice For Ralph at Bally's...

The clerk was cool and happily accepted the tip, but no upgrade. On the bright side I made a hell of a come back at PH and broke even on the trip.

Initially the clerk said that no upgrades are available then when a saw the 20 sandwiched, he happily upgraded, even gave me 3-4 options and upgraded.
