Tips To Make The Best Out Of The Las Vegas Heat This Summer

Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, Fabolous Las Vegas

It’s officially summer and Las Vegas will have record high temperatures today. We’ll probably be hearing this a couple of times a week for the next few months. While you can’t really “beat the heat”, you can do some things to enjoy or tolerate the heat during the summer. Here are some tips for dealing with the heat.

It’s Hotter In The Sun

Remember, it’s hotter in the sun. It may sound like common sense but you can really feel it in Las Vegas. When the temperatures are 110 degrees in the shade, they’re actually 20-30 degrees hotter in direct sunlight. It might sound silly but 110 degrees in the shade can actually feel cool(ish) when you’re in Las Vegas.

Hydrate Your Entire Body

Yes, it’s important to drink water to make sure you’re hydrated. Passing out or feeling faint from heat exhaustion is no joke. Hydration shouldn’t stop there. Water helps to keep your skin hydrated but it’s not the only way.

The dry heat in Las Vegas is real and you can get dry skin any time of the year in Las Vegas. Extremely hot dry air is the worst for your skin. You might want to bring lip balm to Las Vegas so you can avoid chapped lips. You should be able to pick this up at a casino if you forget it but it’s about twice the price you’d pay back home. Similarly, don’t forget body lotion. The moisturizer in your hotel room can help keep the ash off your skin.

Watch The Booze, Coffee & Soft Drinks

Each of these drinks will dehydrate your body. If you love iced coffee, cold beer and soda just make sure you’re balancing the intake with equal amounts of water. Chewing ice after you finish and iced drink may temporarily help keep you cool but it’s not a replacement for drinking water.

Take A Dip

Taking a dip in a Las Vegas pool will feel refreshing while you’re in the water and for a little while after. The cool buzz from the pool won’t last very long once you get out. The dip in your body temperature will only last for 5-10 minutes after you get out of the water. That’s probably enough time to dry off and head inside a casino for some air conditioning.

Strategically Plan Outdoor Activities

Early morning is the coolest time of the day in Las Vegas. This is the best time to head outside if you want to take a jog, go for a hike or play a round of golf. Once the sun sets the temperatures slowly begin to cool down. It will still be 100 degrees until 11pm or so but it feels cooler since there’s no direct sunlight. This is a great time to enjoy dinner and or drinks outside in Las Vegas during the summer.

Head To Mount Charleston

It’s going to be at least 113 degrees in Las Vegas today. The high temperature at the Mount Charleston Lodge is going to be 88 degrees. Mount Charleston is about 25 minutes away from the Vegas Strip and a different way to cool down during the summer in Las Vegas. Head out to the mountains for a late lunch when the temperatures are peaking and be back on the Vegas Strip in time for a cooler night.
