How To Become An Uber Driver In Las Vegas

Posted on Categories Hotels

Becoming an Uber driver in Las Vegas isn’t all that difficult and can be quite the lucrative full time or part time job. Drivers keep approximately 80% of each fare they have for the rapidly growing rideshare service. According to an article in TechCrunch last year Uber drivers averaged $19 per hour. This information was gathered before Uber launched in Las Vegas.

The first things you need to know to become an Uber driver in Las Vegas is that all drivers must be at least 21 years old and have no less than 3 years of driving experience. You must have a valid Nevada driver’s license and our car from no earlier than 2006. All cars must be in great condition and cannot have a salvaged title. This means that the vehicle has been damaged and/or deemed a total loss by an insurance company that paid a claim on it.

For the safety of other drivers on the road and passengers Uber will run a background check on each driver. Among the things that Uber will check for each driver are motor vehicle records, criminal database, national sex offender registry and more.

All drivers are independent contractors. Since you own or lease your car you must pay for maintenance, insurance, gas and other expenses your vehicle from your earnings. Uber offers drivers additional coverage for its drivers once you decide that you want to pick up a passenger. The extra insurance isn’t complicated but it’s easier to see in the graphic below:

Every insurance company operates differently so you should consult with your insurance company to make sure you have the correct policy. Visit this page for more information on auto insurance and Uber.

Since you will be an independent contractor with Uber you will be required to obtain a state and a local business license under Nevada law. State business licenses cost $200 annually and can be obtained online here. Clark County business licenses are $25 and must be made in person at 500 S Grand Central Pkwy in downtown Las Vegas. Here are 10 steps to make the in-person process easier.

When you decide that you’re ready to roll and want to drive for Uber in Las Vegas you’ll need to get your car inspected at the Uber Greenlight Activation Center located at 4180 South Fort Apache Road. The inspection will cost $25.

This is a full-service activation center and they can help activate your partnership with Uber after the inspection is complete. You’ll just need to bring your driver’s license, registration and insurance. You don’t need them to active your driving career with Uber in Las Vegas but they can help expedite the process.
