It may be time to consider staying in downtown Las Vegas but if you’re someone who likes spending time by the pool your options in the area are limited. Not every hotel in downtown Las Vegas has a pool. Those hotels in downtown Las Vegas that do have a pool may not offer the “Vegas pool experience” that you want or expect.

Right now there are two pool experiences in downtown Las Vegas that are by far better than the rest. There’s also a new pool experience opening soon that should satisfy anyone that enjoys early fun in the sun.

Golden Nugget

The pool complex at the Golden Nugget isn’t just the best pool in downtown Las Vegas but it’s one of the best in all of Las Vegas. This pool complex offers something for everyone. The infamous Golden Nugget pool is now called The Tank. This $30 million complex includes a 200,000 gallon shark tank that allows you the chance to swim up-close with five different species of shark and a wide variety of exotic fish.

There’s also a “shark chute” which is an all ages 3 story slide that features a clear view right through the Shark Tank. The slide isn’t a ride for the kids and this isn’t just a kiddie pool even though The Tank is family-friendly. The Hideout is a secluded pool area above The Tank that’s set aside for guests 21 years old and over. The Hideout offers cocktails, a relaxed atmosphere away from the kids and a picturesque view of Downtown Las Vegas.

Best of all is that the pool at the Golden Nugget is heated and open all year around.

Downtown Grand

This pool may be under the radar since Downtown Grand is relatively new. The pool concept has been tweaked a couple of times since opening in October 2013, but it’s so new that it deserves your attention. The 350,000 square foot rooftop pool deck is pristine and now called Citrus.

Downtown Grand brought in an outside operator, 34th Floor Hospitality, to oversee the new pool concept. They’re bringing the Citrus concept to life by offering beverages with fresh squeezed juices at the pool deck decorate with citrusy colors. The pool is so clean and beautiful but it isn’t busy. That lack of demand keeps prices down. If you’re looking for cabana for a group of friends this summer you might want to give Downtown Grand a call.

Bonus: the pool deck has direct access to sunlight so there’s always time to get your bronze on.

The Plaza

The Plaza is currently renovating their sixth floor pool deck and it may be in the running for best pool in downtown Las Vegas when it’s complete. When the renovated rooftop pool deck at the Plaza opens it will include six cabanas, poolside daybeds, a stage fit for concerts and covered blackjack tables. The pool will be open to all ages and free to hotel guests. Non-hotel guests might have to pay a cover fee but that’s still being decided.

One thing to note about the Plaza rooftop pool is that it’s on the 6th-floor rooftop and not the top of the entire building. This pool won’t see the sun all day. The sun sets in the west and it will be blocked by the large hotel tower late in the day. This will probably nice to hang out early in the day but you may not see much in the way of a tanning opportunity later in the day.
