Starwood And Caesars Entertainment Ending Partnership

Posted on Categories Hotels

There’s a good chance that someone using the $20 trick for hotel upgrades will also maximize loyalty club benefits. One of the least discussed, but very advantageous hotel partnerships in Las Vegas will be ending soon. The partnership between Starwood Hotels and Caesars Entertainment will stop when they year ends. According to a post by a Starwood representative on the FlyerTalk forums “existing reservations taking place at a Caesars Entertainment property in 2017 are still valid and will be honored as confirmed. If you must cancel a reservation on or before December 31, 2016, please do so through SPG.com.”

This doesn’t come as much of a surprise. You may remember that Marriott purchased Starwood earlier this year. Starwood and Marriott have deep relationships with SLS Las Vegas and the Cosmopolitan on the Vegas Strip, respectively. It doesn’t seem likely that they needed a partnership with the other eight Caesars properties (although that would be great for customers).

National and International hotel chain partnerships with Las Vegas casino-resorts are a great benefit when visiting Las Vegas. If you travel frequently for work there’s a good chance you’ve used free nights for a vacation in Las Vegas. Even thought this is a loss, we should expect that Caesars Entertainment will probably find a new partner next year.

There are plenty of hotel chain partnerships you can explore as a way to get complimentary or discounted hotel rooms on the Vegas Strip.

  • MGM Resorts/M Life Rewards and Hyatt Gold Passport (Las Vegas hotels include Aria, Bellagio, Excalibur, Luxor, Mandalay Bay, MGM Grand, The Mirage, Monte Carlo, New York-New York)
  • Las Vegas Sands and Intercontinental Hotel Group (IHG) (Las Vegas hotels include Palazzo and Venetian)
  • Cosmopolitan and Marriott
  • SLS Las Vegas and W Hotel and Starwood
  • Tropicana and Double Tree/Hilton
  • Casino Royale and Best Western

The partnership between MGM Resorts and Hyatt is spectacular. You can match Hyatt Gold Passport tier status based on your M Life Rewards Tier Level. This type of partnership is unique to MGM Resorts and Hyatt. The deep integration of this partnership allows you to earn M Life Rewards tier points while staying at any of Hyatt’s 500+ resorts all over the world. Likewise, you can earn and use Hyatt Gold Passport points at MGM Resorts’ hotels in Las Vegas.

While this is a great partnership, you should act on it soon. Hyatt will be introducing a new loyalty club on March 1, 2017, and the relationship with M Life Rewards will change.

In the meantime, Starwood and Marriott customers can choose between SLS Las Vegas, W Hotel and Cosmopolitan, respectively. If you don’t mind using rewards to stay off the Vegas Strip the Westin, Element, Four Points by Sheraton, and Westin Lake Las Vegas are all Starwood hotels. Marriott has another 19 hotels all around the Las Vegas valley, in addition to the Cosmopolitan.

Caesars Entertainment customers can still earn hotel room rewards through the 40 or so Total Rewards loyalty club properties around the country. Look for Caesars Entertainment to announce a new partnership next year.
